Thx Bob. Snap counts for LVE and number 9 don't bode well for their future here. I bet Cox snaps steadily increase moving forward.
I was hoping that LVE was going to make a comeback since he was healthy. Apparently not.

If you want to know who the coaches think are your best players and gives us the best chance to win- look at the snap counts after each game.

Let’s look at last night’s defensive snap counts and what they tell us about improving this D:
SNAP COUNT NUMBERS
  • Defensive line-
    • DeMarcus Lawrence- 43 snaps- (66% of all def plays)
    • Randy Gregory- 37 snaps (57%)
    • Osa Odighuizua- 36 snaps (55%)
    • Carlos Watkins- 30 snaps (46%)
    • Brent Urban- 28 snaps (43%)
    • Dorance Armstrong- 27 snaps (42%)
    • Terrell Basham- 24snaps (37%)
    • Quinton Bohannon- 20 snaps (31%)
    • Bradley Anae-10 snaps (15%)
  • Linebackers
    • Micah Parsons- 51 snaps (78%)
    • Keanu Neal- 50 snaps (77%)
    • Jaylon Smith- 16 snaps (25%)
    • LVE- 14 snaps (22%)
    • Jabril Cox- 1 snap (1%)
  • Secondary
    • Trevon Diggs- 65 snaps (100%)
    • Anthony Brown- 65 snaps (100%)
    • Donovan Wilson- 55 snaps (85%)
    • D Kazee -52 snaps (80%)
    • Jourdan Lewis - 49 snaps (75%)
    • Javon Kearse - 40 snaps (62%)
    • M Canady - 2 snaps (3%)
So….what does this tell us?
1. The Cowboys feel better about having Parsons and Neal on the field than LVE and Jaylon.
2. The DL rotations are certainly in flux.
3. For all the ps hype about Nashon Wright and Jabril Cox, they played a grand total of 1 snap between them. That may change as the year progresses.

actually, the snap counts simply reveal that the Bucs abandoned the run game.

I'm still willing to give him a little of the season to get back in the swing of things. Bucs are a tough opponent to start out with. Brady and company abused pretty much everybody on our defense.

He was also getting double and triple teamed. You should be upset with the guys who couldn't take advantage of that.
So how many snaps exactly did you count that Gregory was triple teamed on. I must say I’m quite intrigued

Coaches play the players they think give us the best chance to win. If they thought Nashon Wright gave us a better chance to win, he would be in there. Maybe later in the season- but right now Brown is ahead of him on the depth chart for a reason.
You say that as if coaches are always right. How many times have the fans called for someone to be benched when it was clear to everyone there were better options and the coaches still didn’t do it?

People realize how good the opposition are right?

  • Complain about Tank's game all you want but he forced a fumble and got the better of Wirfs a number of times. And Wirfs allowed just ONE sack his entire rookie season.
  • Antonio Brown is back to his best and beat the breaks off Anthony Brown....that's not a surprise and we new it would be a problem.
  • Parson's played well but was just a little off in zone coverage for his 1st game....against Brady...with a top 5 O-line....and Gronk...and Godwin....and Antonio Brown...and Evans.
  • Gregory didn't get the better of Donavan Smith....a 16m per season left tackle. We need more, expect more, he did get a fumble recovery so wasn't completely anonmous.

Let’s be honest- fans are over-reactive. We see one game and scream for changes, write people off, overrate the backups who we think could do a better job. It’s a good thing fans aren’t coaching this team because it would have constant pendulum swings and reactive changes.

Changes will happen at some point. But it was one game. 1/17th of the season. There’s no reason to overreact…yet.

...on a game, where most expected a non close contest......
Without z.martin.
We will win enough games to take NCFEast ....

Sure but that’s not what I said. Just because a coach plays a guy doesn’t mean it’s the right decision and no one should know that more than a Cowboy fan. It’s a cop out kind of an argument. So what’s next, we can’t question when a team fakes a punt on 4th and long from their own end because a coach called it? This idea that a decision is right because a coach makes it is just a way to try and win an argument, but is baseless IMO

I think Cox gets more playing time as the season progresses. The coaches can't give him more time without moving jaylon and LVE down to single digits, but it will happen before the year is over.

I dont care what Armstrong did in PS, dudes a scrub. If he is playing 40+ % of the snaps, thats 40+% of snaps we arent getting pressure from that side. Basham isnt much if any better. I really wish we got a legitimate #3 DE in the offseason. We only play starters 60-70 percent of snaps
Armstrong did pressure Brady. Didn't you see him hit his arm? He nearly caused a fumble.

Brown will lose his starting position.

Work in progress for sure… Getting Gallimore and Joseph on the field can only help.

Good to see Quinn not pandering to “seniority” or pay scale when it comes to LB snaps. Play the guys that give us the best chance to win.

I expected LVE to respond to Quinn’s style and be on the field more than he was last night. Parsons is a stud.

Yeah thats a fairly rare quality from past coaches. I'm pretty excited about guys playing on merit.

A Cowboys fan knows more than the coaches? Hey I’m not a huge Mike McCarthy fan but these coaches have infinitely more knowledge and experience than we do. All I’m saying is it’s one game- let’s see if some patterns emerge before making wholesale changes. We’ve played one game.

All four of their starters have a track record of being very good players.

And Vita Vea was destroying everyone in his path in the 4th quarter.
Yes. Our FO still won’t draft a player like Vita Vea because he is classified as 1tech

the only real surprise for me is Cox.
I think Bohanna is justifying his pick.
Cant grasp Canady's absence [like the rest of us]
I know LVE's head is in the game but is JSmith's?

If this is how the team feels about LVE and those apparent trade offers for him were decent, we made a mistake like we did declining the Seahawks offer for Aldon Smith last year.

I swear some people watch these games and just don't see the forest for the trees.https://encrypted-tbn0.***NOT-ALLOWED***/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRZtw-VWKiuYNA_-xNA0Jwjte0oNe1T1Mje5g&usqp=CAU
