theres a lot of big names from week one under 4ypc some like say Henry 3.4 zeke 3.3 hmmmmmmm that should shut some up..it wont LOL

Dalvin Cook joins them on that list as well with 3.1. Saquon Barkley came in at 2.6.. Part of what happens when you're the big dog is every team paints a target on you.. If your line or your QB aint up to snuff you're in for a lot of days like this. I suspect they will all get back on track sooner than later. Well except maybe Barkley.. It's tough to imagine his running style holding up on that surgically repaired knee.. But I guess it worked for Peterson so it might work out for him.

true not just a target but game to game the opponent will dictate what you can successfully do they take away something and leaves and opening for other plays.

And that is where we need a running game. A few good blocks would be nice.
Running is very important in red zone
Or Atleast the threat
It’s such a compacted area you need the threat to keep the defense guessing
An effective run game in red zone would really help this team since we kick way to many FG
Hopefully in most games we will have an effective run game

Many of you have touched on this in different angles but let's look at the Zeke situation this way.

2016, with the great OL of Frederick, Martin, Smith, Leary, Zeke rushed for 1600 yards.
2017 We lost Leary, replaced badly by Cooper, but added Collins at G and sometimes T. Zeke's #s fell accordingly, to 900.
2018 Frederick diagnosed with his nervous disease
2019 Zeke resigned for $90m
2020 Frederick retires.

You can condemn Jerrah all you want but there WAS a philosophy here. I think Dallas gambled and lost. They expected Frederick to be there, and, once diagnosed, thought he'd come back (which he did). They viewed this as a rushing team first, but they had to plug at least one big hole of LG---and assume Collins could hold up at RT. So far, they have not succeeded. But then Frederick was gone for good, and, as we know, Smith has had health problems.

In other words, I think a major factor in Zeke's big contract was the presumption they would have, more or less, the same OL as in 2016 and slowly, it disintegrated as a run line.

In the meantime, Moore comes in. It was abundantly clear in the loss that his scheme was NOT a bad one---from a certain perspective, that is: take exactly what the D gives you over, and over, and over. This is very "Madden-esque" except Madden would periodically heave the ball way downfield just to keep the other side honest.

Meanwhile, Zeke does nothing but block. Why? Six or seven men in the box PLUS two of the most difficult DTs in the league to run against (Donald maybe the other). Moore's philosophy in this case looked sound: you can't run, why not throw to the open guy & force them out of their scheme?

Here is my caution about the pass offense---which believe me I know is in vogue today. When we were a "running team" Dak was getting massive time on play fakes. I don't know if you recall, but he would have a LOT of time in the pocket when Zeke was a threat.

Back to the OL, despite being (so far) a terrible run blocking OL, they did pretty well in pass protection. No, the pocket wasn't as clean as I'd like, and too many times Dak threw with people in his fact, but given that he threw on almost every play, that's understandable.

Long and short: Zeke has no role in this offense as Moore apparently has designed it. Worse, the OL can no longer run block the way the 2016 line could. The personnel is not fitting the scheme.
I watched the better part of a handful of games over week one.

Other than a few plays here and there.....I didnt see anyone run very well.

But teams pass at will, even the not so good ones.

It's a product of the rules. Its stinks, but don't expect it to change anytime soon.

Or the simple fact that too many injuries has caused less continuity, and they just can't get it back yet.

And part of why Zeke had 900 yards in 2017, the corrupt NFL office suspended him for 6 games for no reason at all.

Zeke has a role, MM needs to rein in Moore and get back to the ground and pound.
I know what Moore wants to do, pass 1st, get a lead, then try to establish the run game to use clock. They still need to establish a run game early IMO.
I agree. He can’t abandon the run game totally just because the defense was stopping the run early. It usually takes several running plays for the RB and line starts working well together. Dallas has never won many games when a QB is passing 50-60 times a game. A balanced offense has always produced more wins. The line is a shell of it’s former self. The best linemen have become injury prone and old. If they wanted to continue playing a smash-mouth , run-first offense, they shouldn’t have drafted C. Williams to play guard. He is not the type of lineman that plays with power and aggression. If you think about it, the run game has been average since he became a starter. Smith and Martin are showing their age. Collins has been lazy and unmotivated since he got paid and the jury is still out on the center position.

It would be fun to see for this old RB but I don't expect to ever see Zeke cut loose for a game like that as long as Moore is calling the plays. That's just not what he wants to do.
....maybe KMoore should go into the Press box.....to see the same that Dak is apparently viewing, for starters.

Gordon---- totally hear you and totally liked how you paved the way to give your reasoning...and totally agree....my concern is....we must draft O line high once again....only reason Dak and Zeke had

great year 2016 was O line peaking.......we cant just hope our guys return to how they use to be...rarely does a O lineman play strong and healthy into middle 30's....but some do....but we lost guys in

their 20's....we have to either pay out the rear or draft high O lineman...my lowly opinion....got so mad at 105 "the fan" for kissing Steven Jones butt today and how Steven saying he is so proud of the

replacments..like proud we got Steele and not Collins...when Collins did it 100% to the team and himself...like last year he comes in fat and injures hip for whole season.....i dont want out O Line to fall off

face of the earth but we better start drafting high again

Trying to remake the 90's team is not a good philosophy. We had to rip that team apart because of the cap. So what makes Jerry think he can remake the 90's team with the cap still in place? Trying the same thing over and over again, while expecting different results is just stupid.

Jerry wanting his triplets and his war daddy is the problem. He ends over paying to have those pieces while other important areas get over looked.

Jerry is stupid, plain and simple.

Yes Tampa is stout up front.. but as I said, Zeke got positive yards on most of his carries.. Moore is going to get his chance to show he CAN exploit a lesser run defense against the Chargers.. The WFTs hit them for 126 yards and 4.7 yards a pop. Even compromised our line is at least as good as theirs and Zeke is a better back than Gibson and obviously our passing game is far superior to theirs. We know we can move the ball but we need to cash in when we get into the red zone. I think Zeke needs to be a big part of that.
I think the WFT showed the Chargers can be run on so if Kellen doesn't take up that challenge it speaks poorly of our run game. So I'll definitely be looking for that on Sunday at SoFi. Scoring TDs every time we get into the red zone has to be a priority. Leaving points off the board is deadly.

Another garbage thread blaming Moore for Zeke. The big mistake was the Cowboys thinking Zeke was a great back. He isnt. It was the line that was great, not Zeke. So when the line went, so did Zeke. Pay the line, not the back.

Moore is simply doing what works, what the in game situation calls for, and game plans according to the strengths and weaknesses of other teams.

And obviously you cant see quite clearly that the strength of this team is passing the football. Moore understands this. So at times its not a case of designing no zeke, but designing to the strength of this team.

But I do agree with you on ONE point.....................ZEKE no longer fits what this team needs at the RB position. Pollard is more of what this team needs at the RB position. But I am sure Zeke willl come in handy in certain games and when we get up on teams. Which we should a lot this year.

The reason we had the holding call and were passing on 3rd and 6 was because we passed on first down coming out of the two minute warning .. If we get that 4 yard run from Zeke on first down instead of 2nd then not only do we eat up more clock and one of their timeouts we now have the options to hit them again with the run no 2nd and 6 and eat up still more clock and their last timeout. Now we have a running clock on 3rd and let's say Zeke only gets 2 on the 2nd down run.. 3rd and 4.. run it again.. they have no more timeouts.. use all 40 seconds at your disposal before taking a TO and kicking the FG. Then kick the ball to the Bucs with 40? seconds left and no timeouts left? The kickoff uses over 5 seconds.. Brady now had 35 seconds to go 40 yards into FG range. Oh and they get the 10 second runoff penalty .. so really it's 25 seconds.. Nothing is guaranteed but you have a much better chance of stopping the GOAT with 25 seconds vs a minute and 25 seconds.

Good stuff, as always. We grossly mismanaged game clocks regularly with Garett. And we continue to be unable to manage the clock, and this time it likely cost us the game. To me, it just illustrates the weak coaching we got from The Carrot, and the weak coaching we get from MM and KM. How you can get to be a head coach and OC in the nfl and not know how to do something so basic...

I think the offense of the Cowboys will be more balanced for now on for the rest of the season because I don’t think they will see a defense where they are so good against the run.

Problem to me is Zeke because he doesn’t seem to look for cutbacks or evade tacklers once he is in the 2nd level where he can get more yards, but instead try to run thru people and hope for the best that he don’t get tackled.

For what seems like the first time in about 12 years, the Cowboys finally game planned for their opponent. Their opponent has a fantastic run defense. So the Cowboys said we'll pass the ball.

This was such a pleasant departure from the norm around here.

Yet the same dumb people I see keep posting about how awesome Zeke is are now upset we didnt run the ball enough. I swear some of you are still stuck in 1995 like our old head coach the clapper.

While I agree with many of your points, I don’t agree about your assessment of Zeke’s performance per year. He fell 17 yards short of 1000 yards in 2017 and only played in 10 games. In 2018, he rushed for over 1400 yards and skipped the last game. He had over 1300 yards in 2019 behind a depleted line, then had his worst year last year b/c defenses keyed on him exclusively with nobody at QB who could throw the ball. Still, he’d have rushed for over 1000 yards if he had played all 16 games.

We’ll run the ball this year and I expect Zeke will be one of the best backs in the league. His role in the TB game was unusual, but he handled dudes that were MUCH larger than him and gave our QB a chance to throw the ball.

As you said, the FO did their job locking up a great o-line for Zeke. Losing Travis was brutal, and losing La’el for 5 games doesn’t help either. Still, Martin is a beast, and having him back will be huge. I’m not concerned about our offense. I’m concerned that putting up 28+ ppg, which should generate a win 80%+ of the time, isn’t going to be enough with our defense.

16 games to go. We’ll see.
