Like I said, it's common sense. I didn't expect you to agree.
You’re wrong admit it Common common sense and reality are two different things . And I would beat you on both accounts

Tell me more about that imaginary conversation you had with me
I guess you don’t have a memory either. You kept saying he hurt his shoulder. I told you it was a lactobacillus Muscle. Maybe you chose not to pay attention

They don't hit in practice hardly anymore much less preseason. Your body isn't used to it and that's why most injuries occur early in the season. Body not used to being blown up those first month or so. IMO

You heard it here first. Common sense and reality are two completely contrasting things.

You're right. Smaller, slower and weaker players hit harder.

No they do not hit harder. Make no mistake about that. The force is still the same Especially with today’s pads protection. LOL

force = mass x acceleration

more mass traveling at a higher speed ..... force has to increase.

protection may be better, but that has nothing to do with the force of the blow.

Is it just me or has anyone over the age of 50 noticed that the never-ending list of injured players on today's teams dwarfs teams from the past? I know the players are bigger and faster, yada, yada, yada but, I KNOW for a fact they don't hit any harder than back in the day. Heck, the rules don't allow them to ..

Why do these guys seem to run for the medical tent and IR at every opportunity? Pampered, been told you're the hottest thing since Tabasco sauce since you were 12 years old? Business decisions protecting the contract? Free agency and lack of team cohesion?

Love to hear your thoughts ..
There is a lot on money invested in these players....too many salary cap consequences.....gotta try to keep them healthy. That, plus the players union and multi billion dollar concussion settlement.

I played ball through college in late 60s....nowadays there is so much more knowledge, information and advancements in injuries, treatment and sports medicine. When I played you were expected to play despite injuries and we really knew no better. The absolute last thing you wanted was to be considered weak. So you pushed through things not knowing the damage you were causing. I have issues today from football injuries that weren’t a concern by trainers or medical staff back in the day.
To me it’s extremely hard to compare “back in the day” to now. So many things are different
yep. My senior year in HS I got a concussion on Friday night. I was a WR and K. Coaches didn't let me play any offense the rest of the game, but I did kick 4 extra points and handled the kick off duties the rest of the game (I have absolutely no memory of doing it, LOL). I was back at practice on Monday going full contact. That was 30 years ago. That would never happen now. My son got a concussion during a basketball game (undercut on a rebound and hit his head on the floor) and missed school for a week and couldn't play ball for 2 weeks.

further back you go the more the players just played through it. Cortisone and Novocaine were the drugs of choice and it wasnt uncommon for players to get shots prior or during a game. Todays players with multi million guaranteed contracts have little if any incentive to play with anything more severe than a hangnail. Emmitts playing though a shoulder separation probably wouldn't happen today
Lilly talks a little about playing through pain/injury in his book. heres 4-5 pages

What did the Easter Bunny have to say about it?
Look I didn’t throw the first punch. I’m just trying to teach you and anybody else. Who doesn’t understand. Don’t be so sensitive.

They are bigger, stronger and faster today..but it was a rougher game them....in 10 years, Roger Staubach said he never had a roughing the passer called...against him...

Common sense equal instinct . Actual fact is actual fact. If you can’t distinguish the two I can’t help you any further

Every player now is his own unique individual and brand. The team comes second. Priority is on the players health and well being. The union and media have made the players health the personal responsibilty of the NFL for the players entire life . Emmitt Smith's don't exist anymore nor are they allowed too.

I think you are wrong about hitting harder. Today’s athletes are physically bigger and stronger then the past, that’s a fact, 250 lbs. athletes didn’t run 4.5’s yesteryear. There has been a lot of talk about this over the years and one of the theories out out there is the physical build of today’s athletes puts more pressure in the bones, joints and ligaments. The human bodies joints and ligaments just haven’t evolved as the mass and muscle has.

Please note that I’m just the messenger here.

You see the same thing in other pro sports as well. When you're paying a guy $100 million you're going to go out of your way to protect your investment. Look at how pitchers are treated in baseball - 80 pitches and he's out of there. Wouldn't want his arm to fall off.

Fifty years ago free agency didn't exist and players were cheap. Wear them out, dispose, and replace. Similarly, players didn't want to come off the field because they could be out of a job tomorrow. That could happen today but at least I've already got millions in the bank.

COVID, because of sports betting accepted by the NFL, social media, and it is not manipulated as it was in the past. Manipulated by not reporting or over reporting. Belichick can end up like Hofa if he did now what he used to do with injury reports.
