I'd call it loaded when healthy.
I dig the optimism if genuine. I think they're still missing a piece or two but are trending in the right direction. I'd feel alot better if they had a catalytic tackle like either of the two we just played but who wouldn't?

Seems to me like he is the best fit to replace Lawrence. Missing camp with a hammy isnt great, but he is the quintessential Iowa guy. Iowa players are known to be very fundamentally sound. I said before, if there was a rookie that could afford to miss camp, it is probably Golston

He's actually Not the best fit as he is now, imo .

Without zero NFL experience, no camp or preseason developmental – he is the Least fit for replacing Dlaw.
Don’t feel like he’d know how the NFL trenches works yet, ..we dunno what kind of his play-condition would be like after not being able play or practice at all
this entire summer.

He’d have to get adjusted to the speed and pace of the NFL., his body will have to get use to hits and blocks,

I’d think he’d get a backseat and they have to find a way to gradually ease him into limited packages as he learns technique, conditioning, gap assignments,
.Osa, Bohanna types are already crossed the door in that area. - Gholston hasn't even shown up at the door steps just yet.

The guy who has to step up is Anae. I am counting Gregory out this week, even if he passes his COVID test. He had mild symptoms but it still had to take a little out of him.

What I am most concerned about now is the run. Lawrence and Gregory was both pretty good against the run, although Lawrence had a tendency to overpursue last year.

It’s still football. Beat the player in front of you. Shoot a gap, bull rush, bend. Same stuff Golston has been doing. The level of competition is different. That is all.

So we have a combination of Golston, Anae, Dorrance, Kamara, and occasionally Parsons replacing DLaw with Gregory back next week.

Defensive tackle will be in much better shape when Gallimore and possibly Hill are back in the rotation I think. Add those guys to Osa, Watkins, Urban and Big Bo and that position group looks much better than a season ago.

Losing Lawrence us a huge blow but the d-line isn't the dumpster fire some are making it out to be.
You forgot DE Terrell Basham whom we signed in the offseason from the Jets.

That's plenty of backup DEs to give a chance to see what they can do to fill in.

I mean, if he's healthy, he's gotta play right? This is the position he was drafted to play

More than all,imo . .all the rah-rah sounds good on paper .... but Gholston has done none of it in pads yet. no 2 a days, .No Hard Knocks,...
And that different (higher) level of competition, combined with a inexperienced rookie who has been hurt all summer long and is only now getting into pads, it's a reason why Basham is likely to get the starting nod. It's a ladder up, and again one that i believe (or wanna believe) the club will gradually ease Gholston into.

It's a position where a relative unknown *can* step up and make somewhat of an impact, but they won't replace DLaw, particularly in the run game. DLaw is a very good player, elite against the run and a solid pass rusher.

Armstrong, Basham, and Golston I hope could possibly provide similar rushing ability, even if they can't play the run as well.

Yeah, you knew all about this player before the draft. Tell us about that CB Wright you had as a 7th rd prospect.
Or, we’re you like most of us here who didn’t even know who he was until the Cowboys drafted him?

Selvie got six sacks, if I remember correctly. About the same as Lawrence last year.
