How good was our D Sunday?

Penalties are what bend but don't break defenses rely on. If teams have to march down the field they will eventually make a mistake. Considering they were missing Joseph, Gallimore, Wilson, Lawrence, and Gregory and it was Hookers first action in this defense I'm very encouraged. By the end of the year, if healthy these guys are going to be fantastic.
I was thinking by the 5-6 game.

IF we continue to play like we did Sunday, we will be top 15 by the end of the season

Los Angeles had seven offensive possessions, each of which reached the Dallas 33-yard line or closer. And yet the Chargers could manage only one touchdown, their six other possessions ending via two interceptions, three field goals and a missed field goal

Overall, I wasn’t happy with the defense. How many times did we see the Chargers’ punter?

Defenses that generate turnovers in bunches is championship caliber defense.

According to Mike Irvin.

I think once Hooker gets comfortable in this defense, our secondary will be better. He looked great at points, but also looked a little rusty. He just gotta play more imo

I predict offensive snaps at RB sometime in his future.

He looked incredible at it in highschool. We’ve seen other defenders do it over the years.

It would be fun so why not? The guy is a bigger faster Derrick Henry.

Some Parsons offensive packages would be great.
I have thought that he could, situationally, be an asset to our offense as well. If they leave him at DE he is eventually going to get hurt, and there goes our “nice things”. Playing him at DE situationally is one thing. Playing him as an every down DE is another.

He just needs to be rushing the passer. It’s clear that’s what’s going to make him special.

Not playing the run as a linebacker and hoping he can break up some passes.

Dallas stumbled into potentially an elite pass rush guy so you have him get after the QB.

They had two TDs, and several other long gains that would put them closer to TDs, nullified by penalty. I don't believe the penalties are what made all those plays possible, because i saw way too many receivers running all alone downfield. If the defense plays the way they did yesterday, teams will burn them more often than not.
Defense, as a whole, did not play as well as game 1. Run defense was, at times, poor. I think that is in part due to the fact Parsons was not in the middle of the field.

Safety play was probably better today as a whole than it was in game 1 at least in the passing game.

We got more pressure on Herbert than we did on Brady but I don’t know how much of that is a function of how long he held the ball. On the other hand, later in the game there were a couple of plays that Herbert seemed like he had all day to throw the ball.

I’m not disputing he needs to be rushing the passer. I am saying if it’s at DE continuously, you can eventually say goodbye to your shiny new toy because he will get hurt constantly playing against much larger players.

3-4 defense is probably in this teams future.

You have to build the defense around his ability to get the QB.

That’s a distinct possibility. But you end up forcing him to defends the pass as a 3-4 linebacker.

He may develop into a good pass coverage guy. I’m fine with him doing some of that. You just can’t let that natural pass rush ability go to waste.

You wouldn’t do that with Von Miller or Lawrence Taylor so I don’t know why you would do it with Parsons.

His original position is not a premium position. Pass rushing is premium. He’s gotta be chasing QBs on Sundays.

For a defense that was missing Gallimore, Dlaw and Gregory, and playing numerous rookies, I think our defense played surprisingly well! Especially considering the turnovers. And I thought Parsons was pretty amazing. Quinn is doing a heckuva job with this defense.
One key to winning is depth
Injuries and illness will effect so many teams this year as last
The teams that came overcome the loss of players are the ones who will get a few extra wins
A guy like Kearse who was mostly a ST signing, coming in an having a huge impact is huge in winning

Yup. Kearse had a good game yesterday.

One heck of a bus driver
The majority of teams in this league would love him being their bus driver
