The flag was thrown but they only marked off the 5 yards for the illegal shift .. The 15 yards for the taunting was not.. Here is the play by play

  • 1st & Goal at DAL 2
(5:42 - 4th) (Shotgun) J.Herbert pass short left to J.Cook for 2 yards, TOUCHDOWN NULLIFIED by Penalty. PENALTY on LAC, Illegal Shift, 5 yards, enforced at DAL 2 - No Play. Penalty on LAC-J.Cook, Unsportsmanlike Conduct, declined.
I'm sure it was not "declined" by the Cowboys..
You are correct. They took the 5 yard penalty because it erased the touchdown. If we had accepted the 15 yard post touchdown penalty the TD would have counted and been assessed on the kickoff.

I like it. You are allowed to celebrate without jawing in someone else's face, just like scoring a touchdown. It's that simple. Make the play, and go back to the huddle.

Oh no. Adults playing a game jaw at each other in the heat of competition. Y'all want to strip every single thing out the game and have robots play. Old men yelling at clouds telling us how great the NFL was back in the 50s when their players went to work in factories after the game and no emotion at all was superior.

I agree however we know they will call it so our guys need to be smart enough not to do it. In football much like life there are rules I do not agree with but you follow it or be prepared to suffer the consequence
The Chargers WR was an idiot for doing what he did. I love it. They need to extend it to every WR getting up and making the throwing a flag gesture.

Because if they took the taughting the TD would have stood. Since Dallas elected to nullify the TD it also nullified the taunting.

honestly i don't care either way. I think today's athlete gets a little over exuberant anyhow. I mean act like you expected to make the play. I see some of these players celebrating stops on 6 yard gains. When i played yes we got excited but there were times for letting it loose and times for "this is how we handle our business"

I'm actually "sick and tired" of Mara.

He isnt exactly in the good graces of Giants fans either.

Grumpy old man who graciously accepts the tens of millions guys like Jerry put in his pocket, but cries to mommy every time things aren't his way.

Hope Jerry never forgot that salary cap thing in 2011. What a crybaby.

It was declined by the Cowboys. Steratore mentioned it on the broadcast. Either you allow the score and mark off 15 on the kickoff, or take the illegal shift and make them re-do the down. An illegal shift is not a dead ball foul like an unevaded to the QB penalty.

Anytime you put judgement calls in the hands of officials that affect the outcome of games you’re asking for big trouble.
That’s the real issue
It’s not called equally
Rules need to be clear cut
There is too many rules that are pure judgement calls and that leads to uneven enforcement

That is fine, regardless if people like the rule or dislike it, (Myself I don't care for the rule) the fact remains it is a rule now and players and team will be penalized for it. Our guys need to be smart enough not to do it. It is hard to win in this league and even harder when you have self inflicted mistakes.

Highly-paid, grown men, professional athletes need a rule to protect them from having their feelings hurt.

Unfortunately because highly paid grown men, professional athletes feel the need to act like pubescent teens instead of grown professional men.

Thanks.. I did not hear Steratore (the credit card guy?) .. If that's the rule it's the rule.. I get it.. Still don't like it, but I get it.

In the broadcast. they said accepting taunting would mean they accepted the TD. So better to stop the TD than allow it and get 15 yards on the kickoff.

Yeah, it's a bad look. Celebrating a victory or a game saving play is cool. Celebrating a tackle isn't cause for a playoff victory dance.

Just some balance somewhere in the officiating. Week one Cowboys - Bucs game was MIA for some refs. This week, don't look cross-eyed or else. We won, but it's a wild ride.

The problem is that it gives the refs a lot of gray area to work with that they shouldn't have. But please, keep piling on MORE rules for them to judge on.

Taunting is a rule in all football because anything that can lead to escalation and ejections is necessary. If taunting was allowed, would that bring more people into viewing the game? This isn't fake showoff pro wrestling and there is a certain level of sportsmanship expected of the players.

What would it look like if some starting WR was beating a backup DB and then taunting him after plays? That is a bad look for everyone involved. Let their play speak for them, they do not need to taunt.

I can see both sides.. They need to try to keep taunting to a minimum because you can't be letting a bunch of high T dudes be getting into each other's faces all the time. That's just asking for games getting stopped down repeatedly because of all out hockey fights. At the same time I see no issue with guys celebrating a great play. It's a fine line.. but guys should be smart enough to talk it. Celebrate with your teammates, stay the hell away from the guys on the other team. It's really not that hard..

basically this. it's not rocket science. what they really need to do is throw cb's who do the incompletion sign, after having no impact on the play, out of the game lol
