I want to be able to taunt on Madden. I want to be a ,after the whistle, dirty player on Madden. Taunting should be part of the game. George Teague knocking T.O. off of the star is one of my favorite memories.

The flag was thrown but they only marked off the 5 yards for the illegal shift .. The 15 yards for the taunting was not.. Here is the play by play

  • 1st & Goal at DAL 2
(5:42 - 4th) (Shotgun) J.Herbert pass short left to J.Cook for 2 yards, TOUCHDOWN NULLIFIED by Penalty. PENALTY on LAC, Illegal Shift, 5 yards, enforced at DAL 2 - No Play. Penalty on LAC-J.Cook, Unsportsmanlike Conduct, declined.
I'm sure it was not "declined" by the Cowboys..

it was as we accepted the other penalty which knocked off the TD, as they say, by rule that penalty is declined

Highly-paid, grown men, professional athletes need a rule to protect them from having their feelings hurt.
They don;t always act "grown up".

I doubt it was enacted to protect players feelings.

As far as "taunting" goes....a little....um.... competitive discussions is okay. It can lead to fights. Which is great in hockey not sure I would want that in football.

So where do you draw the line? But of course...in a rule. It has to be a sensible one though.

Sorry, taunting, celebrating, etc. is part of sports. People being taunted or celebrated on simply reply by playing better.

Their called PROFESSIONAL football players and highly compensated for that reason - I don't think it's too much to ask that they act like it. Celebrate big plays/moments, sure that happens in every job. Getting to stand over someone, trashing talking them, making gestures toward them as you get in their face....no need for it. Try being a role model to kids, because they really do look up to you even if you don't like it.

Taunting is a rule in all football because anything that can lead to escalation and ejections is necessary. If taunting was allowed, would that bring more people into viewing the game? This isn't fake showoff pro wrestling and there is a certain level of sportsmanship expected of the players.

What would it look like if some starting WR was beating a backup DB and then taunting him after plays? That is a bad look for everyone involved. Let their play speak for them, they do not need to taunt.

Agree. I hate Mara but I think this rule makes sense.

I don't see how taunting adds anything to the game and it can lead to escalation. Taunting is unprofessional. Good players don't need to run their mouths to show how good they are.

Spinning the ball is a no no..but after a turnover the entire defense can all run to the end zone and do some dumb staged deal in front of the camera

Again at the risk of playing both sides.. What we don't know as fans is what was being done/said by the other guy which may have precipitated the response which WE might see as over the top. What if a receiver is being held all day and hearing the DB doing the holding in his ear all day crowing about "locking you down" and "you aint gonna have a catch today..." yadda yadda yadda... After hearing that on about 30 routes then you finally break loose from being held and stick on in the end zone who wouldn't be tempted to let the DB know about it? I'm not saying you SHOULD do it.. but I can certainly see how such a thing materialize. It's an emotional game NOT played by robots.. So I expect emotions to overflow from time to time. I think the league looking to keep a cap on it is a good thing but I'm not about to sit here on a high horse and act like guys should never celebrate..

Running away from the other team to celebrate is no big deal.. Spinning the ball is fine as long as it's not done at the feet of the defender.. The key is celebrate away from the other guys.. Again not rocket surgery..

I like it. You are allowed to celebrate without jawing in someone else's face, just like scoring a touchdown. It's that simple. Make the play, and go back to the huddle.
I agree with that but some of the heat of the moment things shouldn't be called taunting unless its excessive. Like the ball spin thing, I didnt like the call. I liked the penalty because it went our way just didnt like the call

A football rule proposed by a billionaire playboy who's never stepped foot on a football field in anything other than a $10k suit. This is some angry old white dude BS. There doesn't need to be a taunting rule. There is already delay of game and unsportsmanlike conduct. Those each cover excessive celebrations. This is just an owner who got butt hurt pushing his weight around.

Others completely forgot what it was like to actually play the game.

You know what no one wants to see? 5 mins of commercials for every 2 minutes of football. THAT is what we're all sick of.

You mean a mature man that actually has some sense?

You're probably right.
Having fun “playing a game” is something kids and young men should do. Talking and a little showmanship is what makes the game fun. Unless you want to push out the kids who will continue to allow us to enjoy watching them on Saturday’s and Sunday’s then we should back up on telling them to tone it down

I don't know if this should go here or the NFL zone.

Nobody was asking for the NFL to start penalizing taunting even heavier than they already do. These are grown men out there, playing a violent sport, breaking legs and liquifying each others brains, giving each other early onset alzheimers, but taunting is now a big no-no?

I understand if a guy is in another guy's face and a fight is potentially at risk, but a Houston was penalized for taunting yesterday for spinning a ball after a TD. Seriously? That's been an NFL TD celebration for decades.

Rodger Sherman from The Ringer had this to say -

"Who asked for this? The answer is Giants owner John Mara, a member of the NFL’s competition committee who said in August that he’s “sick and tired” of taunting and that “nobody wants to see a player taunting another player.” I can confirm this is not true. I want to see players taunt other players. I want to watch a channel called NFL TauntZone with no football—just defensive backs letting receivers know they’re trash and defensive linemen doing provocative sack dances."
Yes,, its just another agitation rule,,, it agitates the commish.
There shall be no embellishment of success,, you shall not beat your chest while I eat my rib eye steak.
Goodell is loved and invited into to most NFL owners homes BTW... just letting some know
Total POS IMO BTW

I like the rule. Play the game, you are getting compensated for it. If you don't like it or can't control yourself then go back to whatever it was you were doing before football. I'm sure they have way more rules and less compensation.

I want to see good football no childish grown men.

It's not going to. The NFL is desperately afraid of an all out brawl. The NFL Cares remember?

I have no problem with showmanship. Letting someone spew their negative BS all game long? Yeah, I have a problem with that.
