Jerry has thought his team is on the verge of a SB run for years (and has managed to convince some fans as well).

This inability to objectively evaluate his own team leads to things like overpaying the wrong guys and hanging on to the wrong coach.

Same with Lawrence.

HAD to have him because THAT was THE year.

Every year is according to Jerry....so he went and paid a solid DE like a sack specialist.

At the end of the day....if you want Jason Garrett to be successful, you have to supply him with the most talent. He was not an X and O guy, he was a motivator. He does not elevate lesser talented players. Zeke and his team (to their credit in my humble opinion) was not going to let Garrett stick it in his gut on 1st and 2nd down...then throw it to him on 3rd down or ask him to block on 3rd down...for rookie money. Garrett wants to make the game a "tough man" contest. With the size, speed and athleticism of today's player....you will come on the short end every time with that approach. Our WRs never caught the ball in space with the ability to avoid physical confrontations (he did not like rub routes or pick routes)...the windows the QB had to throw the ball in are small....and he wanted an Emmit Smith of a RB. And for the record...Emmit Smith would not be Emmit Smith in todays NFL...he would take to much of a beating before he would get to 15k+ yards. And that goes for any other RB as well....THOSE DAYS ARE OVER.

I never understood all the reports of Jason Garrett being the first person in the building and the last to leave. Almost every team we played made it very clear that we were the easiest team to prepare for. So what in God's name was Jason burning the midnight oil doing?

Zeke is not who he was....but it's also because we beat him up. With the load we put on him...It was almost as if he was the only person on offense. And we did this in a MAN's league to a 21 year old kid! He is physically and mentally beat up. He will NEVER be who he was. I don't care how much weight he loses. The body only has so many hits in it. And again, please don't minimize the beating his body takes with blitz pick up.

Is Werder quoting Jerry, or is Werder making a supposition?

If it's the former, it's interesting, but not germane now.

If it's the latter, and you are reading it as a quote, then you're jumping to conclusions is misplaced. But if it fits your agenda, carry on.

That and he signed him to protect Dak - Dak with no running game at that time - no buy bueno.

Cowboys fans can always trust Mr. Blue Suit to tweet about his own conclusions.

Guessing it doesn't make many feel better but it's true. I think the holdout had a bigger impact than saving Jason's job. It caught them totally off guard, they simply didn't see it coming. They only had two options......pay him or call his bluff ( seeing if he wait until Oct to report ).

And it only continues the trend of round pegs in square holes.

Let's go back to Demarco Murray hitting free agency after leading the league in rushing.

The story was that the Cowboys had built an offensive line so good that they didn't need to spend big on a running back.

Everyone with me so far?

Then what did the Cowboys ultimately do?

Not only did they use the #4 overall pick - their highest draft asset in years - on a running back, but they then paid him tops in the league at his position. This after seeing the previous disastrous contracts given to guys like Le'veon Bell and Todd Gurley, where the teams dumb enough to get into those deals couldn't wait to get out of them!

All the while, this team has gone from one pass-happy offensive coordinator to another - From Garrett himself, to Scott Linehan, to Kellen Moore.

Be what you are! And invest accordingly! You don't build a team behind an offensive line and running game only to shift to being a passing team! It's an absolute waste of limited resources and you're doing yourselves and everyone involved a disservice.

And yet that's exactly what this team has done and continues to do.

What the hell are you talking about.........no agenda here at all. Whether you know it or not I'm one of Zeke's biggest fans. His hold-out was an absolutely brilliant move. He and his were NOT going to allow this team to trash him the way they did DeMarco Murray on his contract. Remember, they ran the hell out of Murray ( 2014 led the league yards AND touches, 400+ ) then lowballed during contract talks.

If this is true then there some of the most oblivious people in all of sports.

They literally spent that whole off-season telling the media "Zekes our boy for life", "We already have the money allocated for him", "Gurley is the starting point for negotiations".

There is no way a rational front office could of not seen it coming, if anything they where basically encouraging it

1000%........see my post
Yep, remember Jerry bragging during the 2014 season about how Joesph Randel could gain 1500 yards behind our OL. Zeke agents didn't forget
