Parsons, Fulltime DE or back to LB?

An old-school comparison:
Kevin Greene -- versatility sack artist, & tackling machine that had impact as a outside pass-rush linebacker but also had the skill set to pass-rush as a defensive end.

If he played full-time DE teams are going to start running the ball right at him and force him to take on a 320-pound tackle, playing to the tackle's strength.
Move him around all over the field and you can't game plan for him.

I am just glad we have Quinn, who is willing to be creative and think outside of the box. If we had Rod, he would be straight LB and any suggestion of moving around would have been dismissed.

That's not my observation. He's not just screaming off the edge past OT's with speed like we saw Robert Quinn do, he's throwing them around. He's also been destroying OG's and OC's when rushing up the middle. If you run at Parsons you're asking for a TFL

I'm just going to say this...

Our defense has played better since he's been playing DE. I wish we could have seen him getting after Brady in Week 1. It might have been a different outcome.

With DLaw at DE: 0 team sacks

Without DLaw at DE: 4 team sacks

Say what you will but the defense has created more pressure on opposing QB's without DLaw.

can this kid be a HOF DE , Pro bowl DE, ALL Pro? If so, should we leave him there ?

Or when the DEs all come back, does he go back to LB and just get more opportunities to pass rush from his normal spot?

this is a quandary?

i am curious what Parsons would like to be? i wonder if the coaches have asked him?

we haven't seen him at LB enough yet but man he could most likely be fulltime DE and be great at it but does he stay at his current weight to do this 17 games?

He's not a full time DE at 6'3", 245. Teams would start running at him, repeatedly, at that size. Obviously, he can move to DE for a pass rush.

On obvious passing downs, Gregory-Osa-Tank-Parsons could be the front four. Lawrence wouldn't be the first DE to slide inside in that situation.

I would keep playing him at DE and see how it goes. Decide later after more games.
Dont forget Phil is a bad team with learn on the job coaches lol, so lets see what he does

We are playing a multiple defense, don't define him, play him all over the field to keep teams guessing.

DE. DE is a more important position. Plus it's easier to find good linebackers than pass-rushers.

Exactly. Part of what makes him special is the ability to do so many things so well. It will also make him difficult for opposing offenses to game plan against and stop each play. Just let him do his thing and play all over the field and cause havoc. Against running teams we are going to want him more as a traditional Mike on early downs. We are also going to want him playing edge in the nickel. Get used to not knowing what he is going to do each play and sit back and enjoy it...

He needs to be a chess piece. Whatever that week calls for. No need to lock him into one thing.

The guy is a stud.

Well Lawrence isn't due back for several more weeks, then has to get back in game shape.

So there's really no decision to make, given his success so far he has to stick at DE for the most part. Now if Anae, etc. can get back and be productive, Parsons can go back more to linebacker, but they're going to have to really improve for that to happen....

He's a rare breed, I saw at least one play late in the game where he was double teamed by two linemen and was still going toward the quarterback.

Of course that should have let another DL Cowboy get a free run to Hurts, but that (at least in one of those plays) didn't happen.

The DL is still weak, except for Parsons' side. Fortunately the Iggles had to get away from the run early and often, otherwise this game might have been very different...

RE: RG, DA, Anae, Azur
LE: DLaw, Basham, Golston (Osa)

I think these DEs can get pressure.

MLB: Jaylon, LVE
WLB: Neal, Cox

Improving in the middle, but needs juice.

When a team game plans to run the ball on the Cowboys I want #11 in the middle (MLB) shutting down that run because he's the best they have there. Passing downs he can move all over to rush from anywhere.

Well, since it's going to be a while before Lawrence gets back, I think we'll have plenty of time to see what he brings as a DE. But considering his size, a better role for him would be as a LEO type/OLB. I'd expect when Lawrence gets back for us to have him still rushing the passer a lot from a standup position. I think that was the role envisioned for him all along instead of having to use him as more of a straight-up DE.

Frankly, this experience playing DE will be good for him in that role because with each game, he's learning more and more about how to attack OTs.

One thing I noticed about our young stud is he's a special player who doesn't want to come off the field, but if this pace keeps up Quinn in going to burn this kid out and that's when injuries happen. After he was helped off the field that should of been the end of his awesome night, but no a couple plays later he was back out there with the game well in hand. Young players coming into the NFL hit a wall at some point during the season and I'm afraid Parsons will hit that wall sooner than later.

Frankly I expect to see him used in a variety of ways as injured players return. I would much rather see QB trying to locate Parson and trying to adjust than to just stick him at 1 position and leave him.
absolutely, keep moving him around, up and down the line, coming from the edge or up the middle, any chance you get. This will force the QB's to keep up with where he is at and account for him.
