Gallup’s injury costing him money?

It’s the Byron Jones situation all over again.

We can’t afford him, he doesn’t really deserve #1 money. At the end of the season, we will throw some lowball offer at him. Only to in return, get paid like a #1. We all scratch our heads and just say wow. Two years later, he becomes irrelevant in Detroit.

Two of his top three competitors will be resigned likely (Adams, Robinson III).

Then he is muddled in with Godwin, Crowder, JuJu, Chark.

I’d trade Gallup now for anything we can get for him. Even a fifth rounder. Wilson is filling in very well.

That makes no sense. Let him play out the year and if he signs a big contract, most likely, then we get a 3rd or 4th round pick in return.

why we would get more return with a comp pick than a 5th rounder - I dont want him moved unless its for a DB to help on the defense

I don't think so. He has 2 good years and a rookie season where he could get open but didn't quite have that chemistry down pat with the QB.

He should get #2 money easily, unless there are rumors us fans haven't heard of.

I think his future here is shaky regardless, but that's just an opinion and who knows how he wants to play out his career. While possible, I can't see him and Cooper being on the team next year. So, the team would have to choose.

He is the lunch pail guy and if he decides he wants to play here on a reasonable contract I think the Cowboys will keep him even with Cooper. He may want to go grab some huge money but he may want stay here and settle for a lot of money and be a Cowboy. He and Cooper are a lot alike, they are soft spoken but produce. Many people won't see their value until they are gone.

I really like Wilson but he is no Gallup.

If he signs with a team next spring don’t we get the comp pick in 2023? Thats a long wait. I just don’t see us getting much in comp picks from him. Anyone remember what comp pick we got for Byron Jones? I don’t see us getting one higher for Gallup than we got for him.

Gallup is going to get some money. He's put enough tape out there to prove he's a legit deep threat. Some OC installing a new offense this offseason or breaking in a rookie quarterback is going to want that.

injury will cost him a few points on his next deal, but he is getting $10M/yr on his next deal easy.

Couldn't have said it better.

There is a big crop of free agent WRs this spring, unfortunately for Gallup. Poor thing he might lose 5% on the multi-millions he goes for.

I dunna understand why we love the decrepit (Sean Leach), the slow and old (Witten) or the usually inept (Smith) and want to trade away studs such as Gallup.
I tell you, bland men of the suburbs, we are ONE ankle sprain away from needing an experienced hand such as Gallup!
The Lad is much more valuable as our 3rd WR than what we'd get tradewise.

Gallup is going to get his money and the Cowboys will get a decent comp pick.

I like Gallup a lot. I hope he comes back soon healthy and as good as ever. I would even like to keep him on a reasonably modest free agent deal but I am sure he will get much more than I would be willing to spend on the open market. As good as Gallup is this should be a lesson in the value of quality depth over the necessity of "top tier talent". Every time one of our "top tier" guys go down it seems like younger hungrier back ups come in and play just as well if not better for much much less. Look at the defense. I haven't seen this level of effort in a long time. Sure they make mistakes but the hunger more than makes up for it. This defense is the exact opposite of last years defense. Look at the starting line up from last year. It might be the most bloated overhyped collection of overpaid clowns I have ever seen and their play was exactly as I imagined it would be. Liking what I am seeing this year. Hopefully the morons in the front office get the hint.

Maybe. But looks at the number of rookie/second year receivers tearing up the league? Do you want to pay a #2/3 like Gallup or draft a guy who might be better than Gallup?

I like Gallup but he is starting to look a lot less like a must resign and with the way other receivers are playing, maybe he’s not worth as much.

Having said that, if the Eagles offered a 3rd round pick for Gallup prior to the trade deadline he would be an Eagle.
Gallup is a great player that will not fit into the boys cap strategy (whatever that might be). I am surprised people think that Gallup and Wilson seem to be interchangeable. No knock on Wilson but he is clearly a level down from Gallup IMO. I have no doubt the margin of victory would of been different in the Eagles game with Gallup in the lineup and healthy.

The offsets hasn’t missed a beat so far without Gallup. Does anyone think the injury and the fact that replacement players are shining is costing Gallup any money next year/improving his chances or remaining a cowboy?
They have played two cover-2 teams where they dared them to run the football and be patient with underneath throws. We are going to need Gallup when teams again start stacking the box. As for his contract value decreasing, don't see it. Galloday was hurt all last yr and still got a huge contract.

Gallup is a Cowboy. Teams will be tripping over themselves to pay him big money (WFT/Eagles).We need him back ASAP for the rest of the season because he is our home run hitter.

Gallup missing games due to injury definitely hurts his big contract opportunities. Hope it helps the Cowboys be able to keep Gallup with a much cheaper offer.

There are teams out there where he'd immediately become their #1 receiver - New England, the Jets, and Detroit are examples.

He's got enough of a resume' already to get paid, and he should be back this season to add to it.

  1. Costing him money? Definitely.
  2. Improving his chances of remaining a Cowboy? I still highly doubt it.
It’s possible that things could get to a one year prove it deal in Dallas but I think he’s have to miss a lot more games.

Im not sure I agree with that. Gallup is important in what they do. They have also shifted the game plans over to running the ball since his injury. Not saying its related, but it may have something to do with it. With both Gallup out and Cooper aililng you knew they were going to come out running it.

Undoubtedly. Even if he plays well in the 12-14 games he performs in, an 800 yard season will command substantially less than a 1200 yard one, hypothetically speaking. But then again there are always teams willing to pay insane amounts for players who aren’t of that echelon. So maybe the same team ends up with him as would have before.
