Which is a nice way to say we don’t need a slow, lumbering, top heavy LB who is afraid of contact, has no football sense or situational awareness, and can’t cover.

I like the nice way better.......

Hes made a ton of tackles for the team.

No denying his stats.
Ok, total waste is probably too strong of words, so I give you that. But there was certainly somebody else in the draft who we could have gotten in the 2nd round who would have contributed even more than the "ton of tackles" jaylon gave us....believe that!

so they take a 6.8 million dead cap hit for their dime/nickel packages???
The dead money is less than what they would have paid him next year - so it's a net gain to the cap - not a loss. Was going to count almost 12 million against cap next year.

Also, kind of surprising at how long Dallas was trying to trade him off. From draft all the way to recent times.
What's not as surprising is that NO team wanted to trade for him! You would have thought we could have gotten a 5th or 6th or 7th round pick for him. Obviously no team thought that much of him that they would use a draft pick to guarantee his services....what does that say!

Best of luck to Jaylon in all future endeavors.
NFL life is short and his Cowboys time was heading towards an end at 100MPH.

From a roster standpoint with multiple players coming back, including Neal, this makes sense.
Adding in the 2022/3 contract injury guarantees and it makes a little more sense.

What are the odds during all that madness last night . . . that I post Jerry in Arkansas Red & you post an Arkansas crowd going nuts. . . . back to back on page 23 of a 77 page Thread

I heard that the Cowboys were forced to keep this year to begin with was an injury. So I see why the Cowboys wouldn't want to risk that again. Then Belicheck makes a similar move with Gilmore the next day.

Why does Jaylon have so many injury clauses where his money is guaranteed after suffering a major injury? I feel like it should be the other way around where if he suffers a major injury or misses X amount of games his money is not guaranteed and can be cut.
It's the nature of a long-term contract: it's about managing risk. The player wants security against things like a career-ending injury, and trades away some salary and flexibility to achieve that. The team gets to lock in the player's services for multiple years and to pay less than they would potentially have to pay in a series of one-year contracts (especially if the player gets better over that time), but they take on risk of the player's performance declining or the player getting injured.

No team wanted his contract.........pretty sure it was all about the contract, whether or he can still play or help some team. This is not unusual, happens all the time. Remember no team would trade for Romo before he decided to retire. Only two teams show mild interest in wanting him, Texan and Broncos but neither was willing to give up a draft pick. In fact, Elway flat said he'd love to have him but only as a free agent, no draft pick.

I'm surprised they took the hit this year and didn't cut him after the season.
It's all about him getting hurt and next year being guaranteed. The $9M+ salary cap this generates for next year can be spent far more wisely.
