Why Didn’t We (or Did We) Make A Move for Gilmore?

I can’t believe Gilmore could have been had for a 6th round pick and we didn’t try to get him. Our reason better be that we were concerned about his recovery from injury more than anything else. Otherwise, we just missed out on the yang to Diggs’ yin as far as lockdown capability. We will need that in the playoffs.

  • Unable to afford him ATM
  • Want to see what guys like Joseph can do
  • If you trade for him, who do you cut? Joseph? Wright? Lewis? Brown?
  • Gilmore was ANOTHER big pay day. You can’t pay that and expect to pay Diggs in a few seasons
  • Gilmore wanted to go back home to Carolina. He’s from less than 30 minutes from Charlotte

I don't think we had a chance to "bid" for him, from what I heard the Patriots just decided to toss him to the first team that made an offer.

I was against it. For a multitude of reasons. Such as:
  • First, he was never going to be in this team’s long term plans because of age, prior injury history and most importantly- his cap cost.
  • We have a ton of free agents coming up in 2022 and we need to be very strategic in cap decisions.
  • Giving up up a draft pick for a very short term investment in a guy we don’t even know if he can still play is not a good football decision.
  • In the long run, if we have a young player on a rookie deal (perhaps Kelvin Joseph?) who is decent or better, it’s a much better strategic decision to go that route than overpaying a possible “has been” who ends up being just a “rental”.

We do not have a 6th round pick, and they obviously was not going to take a 7th. And we were not going to give a 5th.

If he plays without signing a new deal than Dallas screwed up bigtime.

i heard on the radio Dallas offered a better pick than Carolina, but pats did Gilmore a favor cuz he wanted to go back to NC

But...but...we're America's Team! Everyone dreams of playing for Jerry. :muttley:

You summed it up, nicely.

I dont think the real concern about cb and secondary. Picks and money can be used elsewhere.

i believe SG asked the Pts to not just take any teams offer.. i believe hes from the Carolina area and chose that as the pats werent going into get much more then 5-6th and they wanted him out of the afc that leaves 16teams and of Gilmores asked Bil for favor, im betting thats why..

you all act lie we have first dibs on all released players=delusional..there afr more that goes on behind the doors then we realize..

he is injured. still on IR I believe. and cost.....perhaps we thought he would be released and then we talk to him....but obviously carolina is making a run for it this year, with Henderson and Gilmore trades.....
