What's interesting is it appears defenses, in general, have taken a step or two back all around the league. Not hearing much about one or two players dominating so far. Did you know as Sunday, Chase Young had zero sacks?

As mentioned in couple other threads, if we keep defensive points to a min.......the yards allowed won't matter much. In other words, win the red zone.......it may be easier than reducing so many chunk plays.
Interesting,
Hope we can fix whatever the issues are
But we have improved greatly over last year,
So for that I am thankful.

I believe the defense is below average to average overall.
I would say the defense is above average. I factor the ability to force turnovers as a huge factor in determining how effective a defense is.
I give them a few spots of lift in ranking due to this. These are not just lucky bounces. These are forced turnovers. We still have quality players that should help upon their return to add like D Law.

Defenses (statistically) are about as good as their opponents. Last 3 weeks we've been fortunate to play against sub-par offenses, but they held their own against the Chargers as well.

The defense is playing as well as could possibly be hoped after last year. They've procured better talent, found value and are well coached. It will take another 1-3 GREAT offseasons to make this a truly fantastic defense, but any complaints about the current D are laughable considering how far they progressed from 2020.

I think the defense played pretty well, especially against everyone not name Toney. That guy looks legit. He let his emotions get the best of him at the end but he looked "different" with the ball in his hands, in the same way that Diggs just looks better/faster than everyone else.

I know some will disagree but these fair questions. Don't get me wrong, love the win but I'd be lying if I said the chunk plays we're giving didn't scare the hell out of me. The good news is we have plenty of time to clean it up,

Its like a handful of games in and your like some spoiled Patriots fan nit picking about his team that has won the last 4 Super Bowls.

You should be very very happy with what you are seeing. The fact that the defense is even this good is a miracle. Especially with so many starters out.

And to think we also punted J Lo outta here is another miracle. Cox is starting to get in the mix now. Knocked out Jones and saved a TD. Never would have happened with J Lo.

Young guys are getting better, Lawrence, Gallimore, Joseph coming back, this defense should get better.

The fact is that until we replace Brown, this defense will be suspect on one side of field. Before his pick 6, Brown was having arguably the worst game of the season. The guy simply sucks. If you want to pray for something, pray that Joseph can replace Brown.

Well they have already played Tom Brady and Justin Herbert….

Playoff QB possibilities:
- Brady (Bucs) the GOAT ..hands down, greatest QB in NFL history
- Aaron Rodgers (GB) ..and you know what the playoff history we had with him.
- Kyle Murray (Ariz) - only undefeated NFL team, and his offense among tops
- Matthew Stafford (Rams) - he's not with Detroit anymore and he's already beat the GOAT.
- since Russell Wilson likely to miss most of season do not see his team/bad defense
making playoffs

Still think the defense lacks the pure talent to be too great just yet... Parsons and Diggs are really the only great talents. (I've never been as big a fan of Lawrence as some.) I think mostly this year so far is a testament to excellent coaching.

But who knows, maybe a few other young guys on defense keep improving. Osa is already a hit IMO, and maybe Gallimore takes a step forward like we were hearing. Maybe Bossman really helps by the end of the year when he figures things out. Maybe Golston is an unstated Tony Tolbert type and Cox is a great coverage lb.

It would be an incredible makeover of a terrible group in such a short times if it happens, but it's possible with the vibe this team has going.

I love what I am seeing from defense. 1st off we all know NFL rules favors offense so offense comes in with greater advantages right off the ball. What many hope for is winning 3rd down battles, Cowboys are doing that and you hope to create turnovers and Dallas is doing that. Do I expect Diggs to get TO in every game? No I expect others to get turnovers as well. Cowboys will give up big plays? yes and guess what so do the other defense around the NFL, I don't see any top contending team defense as being overly dominate.

What constitutes as a “top 12” defense? Am I top 12 if I can’t get turnovers but I don’t allow many yards?

Good question .....real simple to me. As many have seen me mention Belichick's defensive goals several times, win the turnover ratio and defensive points battle, you'll win a lot of games. In other words, if you're giving up the yards, you better make dams sure they don't lead to 7 points by coz change of down, turnover or FG. Bottom line, if your opponent is bleeding yards, turnovers or FG minimizes its impact.

By Football Outsiders stats, the Bills were the best defense they've ever measured through 4 games (with the caveat that opponent adjustments aren't at full strength yet). The Saints and Browns were a distant 2nd and 3rd. The Browns sure didn't look like it today. The Bills, through the first half, have held the Chiefs down pretty well.

Bills played three backup QBs in a row - Dolphins, WFT, and Texans. Bills also got the Stealers who are a shell of themselves on offense and Roth is basically a backup at this point. Bills also got the Chiefs under weather conditions which favored them.

Some have elaborated that it’s a new defensive scheme, and it's still a work in progress, but how long can that be used as an excuse ?

- Thanks to the lead by Diggs, this is a defense that gets turnovers and makes key plays at key moments of a game.
But it’s gonna come back to bite us with this up and down defense. It yields yards, 1st downs and

- These are the times when I really believe this run game is indeed helping out the defense ,too.
only pounding and wearing down opponents defense, but controlling the clock also keeps our D” fresh, but also not as on field and exposed.

- At this point, I was wrong to think we’d be a more passing team than run team, and lead by Dak attack 300 yd pass game
but run game seems to be identity of the team right now.
Aside from Bucs top ranked run defense, no other team on our schedule has been able to resist our run game.

- But defensively, there’s still seems to be too much confusion going on. Too many men on the field, confusion in substitution, we’re switching men in-out
every couple or 3 plays, and teams are countering with more no huddle/quick snap,..

- And it becomes a plus play for them, a penalty flag for us ..or we have to forced to burn a timeout.
And we are still busting and blowing several chunk, big plays. Game after game.

- It’s one thing if Anthony Brown is giving up his usual share of big plays downfield. ..it’s another if we are still seeing
WRs & TEs scrolling wide open break free in these coverage schemes ..

- Is this just gonna be a staple of this defense ?
Is it only gonna be a matter of time to where we cannot overcome such flaws ?

Yes, the Cowboys faced Brady and what did he do? He marched his team for the game winning score with time running out. The Cowboys lost. It doesn't matter how close it was. In the end, when it counted, they lost.

We can't look a gift horse in the mouth, but if I was the Cowboys coach, I would be concerned about the defense that gives up a lot of big plays. Even the Giants backup QB hit some big plays against the Cowboys. And imagine if Barkley, Jones and Golladay did not get hurt. We are just being objective. The Cowboys defense plays hard, especially the rookies. Even LVE is starting to play with intensity now. But the secondary is still the weak link and they allow a lot of chunk plays. How will they do against teams like Green Bay? What do they need to do to cut down on all those big plays?

Lots of new players playing together for the first time.....

Actually, according to Dak, we are taking what teams give us.....
