Our drafting is nice when Rod Marinelli isn’t trying to get us to choose players to fit an out dated scheme

Our worst drafts were when he was forcing them to overdraft a DL.

2014: A+
Only 4 picks, resulting in a Hall of Famer, Pro Bowler and starter on multiple teams.

2015: B+
Pro Bowler is Jones. Gregory had a rough few years but is turning into a very reliable starter. Wilson has been a starter on multiple teams.

2016: A+
Franchise QB. All Pro RB. Enough said.

2017: F
1st round bust. Came out with CB depth at best. Lewis isn’t a liability but is very replaceable.

2018: C+
A lot of quality depth. LVE is a decent LB but nothing to build around. Williams is a decent OL but not a strength. Gallup is solid but not a #1. Schultz is a surprisingly quality starting TE but no Pro Bowler. Wilson is solid WR depth.

2019: D+
Hill seems to be a bust. Pollard is a solid second RB who will likely leave for a bigger contract. McGovern might become a decent OL starter but isn’t anyone to build around.

2020: A
A lot depends on Diggs. Will be A+ if he becomes a perennial All Pro. Lamb might be a #1 WR one day but is a top notch #2. A lot of question marks around Biadasz. People liked Gallimore but have forgotten about him since Osa.

2021: A
A lot depends on if Parsons becomes a perennial All Pro. Osa looking like he might become a Pro Bowl starter. Jury still out on Joseph. Gholston and Cox have shown glimpses of becoming solid depth.

Can live with this assessment. 17-19 were "ehhhhh" drafts, at best.

@eromeopolk Nice list. Thanks for posting.

The 2021 draft is just plain amazing. 11 Players drafted and all 11 players made the team. 9 Are actively playing every week. Ball and Joseph are the two exceptions and they are basically chilling on IR-Short Term due to roster numbers in my opinion. Both Ball and Joseph could be very good in the future.

Has there ever been a team with more draft picks making the team in one year than the Cowboys with 11? Truly a home run draft.

The last two years have been the best back-to-back drafts we’ve had in a long time, and that’s important.

Everyone was getting on McClay for serving a Taco. But no one was looking at all the NFL

Everyone? I have been raving about Will going back three or four years. Anyone can scroll through my post history if you want, have at it. And yes every GM and/or player personnel exec has had some misses. Just look at the great Bill Belichik or Parcel's for giving us Bobby Carpenter, he didn’t even want to draft Ware.

We have drafted well for quite sometime

and every team misses on picks ......we cant even use the Randy Moss one because more than 10 teams passed on him

Aaron Rodgers?

they had to take him in the back because he almost fell to the second round he was expected to go top 10 if not top 5

weve built a great team through the draft

2021 draft = 1975 draft

2020-21 as a whole reminding me of those early Jimmy drafts.

A certain poster on here has made countless smarmy, sarcastic posts about all of the talent accrued over the years by McClay.

He’s been conspicuously quiet this year on the roster building.

That said, no one or no team is perfect and there are plenty of busts all over the league including Dallas, but the Cowboys have been very effective in the draft.

The 2021 could be the one that puts us over the top.

Not me. That dude can draft his butt off - I don’t question any picks he makes. He has out drafted the Eagles, Giants, and WFT combined.

Who is blaming anything on Will McClay?

I do not understand some of these dumb threads.
I agree. McClay has not been the target of many threads. I haven’t seen many complaints about McClay or the job that he is doing. It sounds like fake drama to me.

Overall, looking at the 3rd rounds and later I think the Cowboys got excellent value for their picks, regardless if that player was on offense or defense.

In the first 2 rounds though I'm not sure you could say that for the defensive picks, with the last two years being the exception (PLEASE BE GOOD Bossman).

Great picks down the line IMO for offense.

And the team IMO reflects that: Offense has generally been good while the defense has been up and down.

2017 isn't an F.
you made 6 picks starting at slot 28 in each round and found 6 NFL players.
1 starts for you, 1 has been a long term back up.
Chido is playing well elsewhere after giving you plenty of starts.

2017 is a realistic C- draft.

You guys are just spoiled.

Compare drafts over the last 5 years with any team in our division and we will beat them mercilessly which is why we are runaway favorites.

Give it up to McCarthy. He wants the best football players on the team and not just a scheme fit. That scheme fit stuff is for coaches who are stubborn and don't believe in adapting the scheme to best fit the players.

Very impressive list when you look at the holistic picture.

The biggest problem the Cowboys had was Jerry hanging on to old players and not playing the young ones to have them contribute or see if they can contribute.
