do cowboys get cap relief from the suspension?

The suspension is without pay so yes, cap relief in the form of 5-weeks. With Collins having restructured his deal before the season started, his 2021 cap hit is $6,369,444.When divided by 18 weeks you get a weekly average of $353,858 so his 5-game suspension is a 'savings' of $1,769,290......if math serves correctly.

With the way Steele has been playing, Collins due back (if I am correct) in Week 8 against the Vikings, and the NFL trade deadline set for Nov. 2nd (Tuesday after Week 8), could Dallas say enough is enough and try and move on from Collins ala J. Smith?

Cap Savings if traded/released starting in 2022 (salary cap hit V. dead money):

2022 $1.3M savings
2023 $15.25M
2024 $13.45M

Stephen Jones already said today that LC will be with the Cowboys for a long time. Don't hold your breath waiting for a trade. Plus, depth is important.

Take it with a grain of salt as JJ & SJ are not going to come out and say Collins is getting cut as soon as he comes back. Remember, in Nov. 2020 JJ called J. Smith a 'cornerstone' to the Dallas defense.....and we know how that ended up.

I’ll be happy to have Collins back as depth, but I’m not moving Steele from that RT spot. He’s been too good and too dependable.
Never in my wildest dreams did I think Steele shouldn't be replaced but here we are. He's balling out and let's not mess with a good thing.

Man things change in the NFL. A month ago I was posting about how stubborn and stupid our coaches are for not moving Martin to T. Now I'm posting about not moving Steele. This is as crazy as last year but everything has been positive. I'm loving it. Go Cowboys!!!!

Yes,that was before he refused to remove the injury clause, showed he wasn't able to push the sled, dove for a ball 10 yards away, got caught multiple times hitting the wrong hole, got beat to the ball carrier by LVE even though he was 5 yards closer, and on, and on, and on. Smith Gave the Jones multiple reasons since the time of that comment to release him.

In this instance Stephen wasn't answering a question about his longevity, but he chose to throw that out there anyway...so barring L'ael doing something stupid (which is likely), or not being as good as he was, I don't see the Jones trading him.

Well, I agree about Smith as many could see he wasn't a cornerstone player.

Regarding Collins, he missed all of 2020 due to some kind of injury after reporting to camp badly out of shape. Now, he has a 5-game suspension due to missing drug tests and reportedly bribed a collector. Now I am not in the 'know' with JJ & SJ but I would say Collins is not doing himself any favors.

I am sure he is on thin ice, but I think for now he is safe.

Jerry being vague:
https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/10/12/motion-to-halt-lael-collins-suspension-denied/

Terence Steele will remain at right tackle for the Cowboys this week and Jones discussed the possibility that he’ll remain there once Collins is back on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday.

“Is he an argument I guess — I guess that’s okay to say he’s an argument, a case, whatever. And, boy, has he,” Jones said. “He’s just played outstanding. Boy, he has shown me he has a long-term future in this game and this game with the Cowboys. So, he’s played outstanding relatively speaking. Now, that doesn’t mean that La’el Collins is any less of a player. La’el Collins is a significant member of the team. And, so, this just gives us what you hope for: young player ascending and gives us depth and gives us, if you will, an alternative. All of that is there.”

I am in love with this new Jerry that has shown up recently that gives answers like these that just really please everyone and aren't controversial. What has happened to him?

“The Court takes no comfort in enforcing an arbitration award that upholds a punishment that, arguably, is not permissible under the parties’ CBA. “But, just as the Court cannot embrace its own opinion as to the validity of Collins’ claims or the out-of-bounds nature of the NFL’s disciplinary decisions, the Court cannot disregard an arbitrator’s reasonable construction of the parties’ agreements.”

Although, Jerry never answered the question. He just presented both sides of the coin. Leads me to believe McCarthy, Moore, and Philbin will make the call.

I think Jerry already knows the answer. He just isn't saying right now. A few drinks in him and I am sure the truth would come out.
