Good Gawd -- guess I'm due to get re-acquainted with a world that I've either outgrown or that's outgrown me?! Hello!!

Ha all good....training techniques have evolved so much...for my sport we did a ton of visual rehearsal and mental walk throughs of our race. There were also a lot of breathing and heart rate control techniques to help control pre race nerves and focus.

I remember as a 20 year old thinking it was silly initially but when I put them to use at a national meet it was pretty amazing the difference it made. Granted not a substitute for physical training but took a lot of the noise out of the competition and helped me focus.

When I was very young, we went through the mental conditioning School of Hard Knocks. That's one that sticks with you forever! ;) :D

I get it and agree our kids are far too coddled these days...I grew up in the 80s and am technically an old melinneial...and many time I get pissed at my generation as well as the young millennial for their soft and self centered mentality.

You have to grow up with some adversity in your life to generate an appreciation of the result of hard work and toughness...I'm struggling with my 3 kinds 7,5,1 on how to develop that....as a father I've worked my life to this point to give them a much better life than I had growing up, but there are negative aspects that I am still trying to work through.

My parents were reasonably well off as middle-class folks who were raised through the depression and many hard times, as well. Both my mother and father were the products of parents where one of them was an alcoholic and had to work for everything they got. Fortunately, I was raised under the same conditions, expect for the alcoholic part, although, my dad loved his beer and even brewed his own throughout the depression and later.

Both of them were somewhat religious, especially my mother, who spent a great deal of time in a convent being schooled, raised and trained by nuns. Even though I was fairly well provided for in terms of home life, I never got coddled and was expected to act civil and work for whatever I got. I've been fortunate in many respects, even though never having the advantage of mental conditioning. My parents kept me honest, hard working and willing to get along with those around me. Of course, it hasn't always been easy. I've had employers that weren't always considerate.

My son has anxiety that he appears to have trouble overcoming at times, even though he's of an advanced age. He has a very stressful job, so I attribute much of that to his mental struggle to cope at times. He's extremely intelligent, however, and that seems to help him greatly in the long run. I can see where the modern world might offer difficulties that I never really had to cope with during the long life that I've been blessed with. Staying positive seems a real challenge these days. I really hope you and yours have a life as fortunate as mine has been.

MM's motto must mean "Good enough is the enemy of excellence."

Thank you so very much for sharing and all the very best to you and yours as well. I had similar challenges with alcoholic parents and a mother with severe mental issues that required her to be institutionalized for part of my childhood. We were broke, evicted from our house when I was 14 and never had stability...thankfully I always had my skills at swimming to anchor me.

For a long time I let the negativity associated with my terrible home life as a child impact me but it was always the motivating factor to get my education including a degree from John's Hopkins and an MBA from Carnegie mellon....I wouldn't wish my journey and the pain and hardship on anyone, but I also wouldn't change it because it has made me the man I am today. Sometimes the darkness makes the dawn that much more beautiful.

To be fair to us old folks, we didn't have everything handed to us or a sheltered upbringing, so most of us are mentally tougher than most of the younger generation. I grew up on shows like Good Times, The Jeffersons and All in the Family, so a mere word doesn't harm me/us like it does to some now. Not trying to say that having a "Mental Conditioning Coach" is stupid or a bad idea. Just trying to explain to you why some won't understand the need for this since they appear to have a great life with money that most of us can only dream of.

No way back when I was a kid would this type of behavior be allowed. These kids will probably need a Mental Conditioning Coach when they get old. Hell they need one now. I blame the parents, btw.

Y’all know what would’ve happened to every one of these kids back in the 70’s and 80’s when they got home - daddy time.

Bumping this for the board as the techniques being coached by Bohling were mentioned by both Gregory and Dak in their postgame pressers after the victory over the Pats

both talked about being “neutral” and Gregory talked about the training helping him to rebalance after he gets too hyped

If something works let's celebrate it, why do people have to be so negative about something they are ignorant about.

If you and told me we had a "mental conditioning coach" before I read this I would have called you a bold faced liar.

Hey if it works, it works.
