More McCarthy Mismanagement?

Nantz raised this during the game and it caught my eye too, but a Pats beat writer summarized it well:

“Mysteriously bad clock management by Dallas at the end of the first half. With the clock ticking down, the Cowboys used their final timeout just before Mac Jones knelt on third down. Had they waited till he knelt and then called timeout, they'd have forced New England, deep in their own end and without any timeouts of their own, to punt. Instead, the Patriots went into halftime with a 14-10 lead. The Cowboys cost themselves a chance at one last possession by doing this.”

I’ve never seen a coach consistently look more flustered and lost than McCarthy with game management; 1) to not understand the game situation and opportunity to give your team another shot with the ball; 2) to finally recognize the situation (late) and call a timeout, but at the wrong moment (i.e., called TO before he knelt).

Dude is a mess.

Its multiple times every game his decisions are questioned.

By everyone - media, former players, fans, etc.

If we lost 2-3 of these games this would be a much bigger story. But winning is the salve that heals all wounds. I can’t help but feel this is going to crop up at the most inopportune moment for the team.

I have to agree I know it's good to be aggressive but going for it when you're on the wrong side of the 50 is just stupid. He has done this twice so far this season and each time it gives the opponents a short field.
The Time Outs yesterday was just dumb.
MM is being carried because he has a great OC and DC if we lose them next year who is going to carry his dumb butt then. I would rather promote Kellen than to keep MM and lose Kellen

If at the end of the season Jerry has to decide between Moore or Quinn over McCarthy, I really hope he chooses Moore or Quinn. This is a repetitive conversation we are having about game management with McCarthy.

I think McCarthy is a part of the culture change that is happening but that's all he's bringing to the table that I can see. I feel Xs and Os are Quinn and Moore. Culture is important but so is scoring points and having more possessions during the game.

Camera caught him looking up the clock looking like a confused kid trying to do complex division. This might have been his most egregious *** up even though it wasn’t that impactful.
It’s sickening a head coach doesn’t know what’s going on.

What’s more sickening with the 100 coaches not one of them is helping / yelling him to take these timeouts

As long as we keep winning and McCarthy keeps up with his time warp trouble, I'll not complain.

I value the wins, far more than having his clock woes to whine about.

Right! As long as we're winning than I'm not complaining. I'm happier with McCarthy as I see the general culture and confidence of the team change. If we stop winning.... then we'll see. I do see a big decision coming for Jerry and company at the end if the season with Moore. This might be the biggest decision Jerry makes in the last 20+ years. I hope he makes the right decision either way. But for now we're 5-1, 3 game lead in the division, 5 game win streak, going into a bye on high note and I'm loving it. I feel Quinn, Moore, and McCarthy have done a great job this season with changing this team. They're not perfect but whatever their doing is working and as a fan I'm really excited and pumped. And I hated McCarthy at the start of the year, but we're 5-1 and he's a part of that. Whatever part he plays is debatable but we're winning and it's fun.

Go Cowboys!!!!

He went for it inside our own 35 on the first possession. Then he went on to make many other coaching misfires, some by using inaction. He tries to inject himself into games when he's not needed at all.

He's a good PR guy and can deliver a speech with the best of them. He's got excellent coaching and player connections. He might even be a great play caller if given the chance. But his real-time decision making as a head coach is Garrett-esque.

I'm not really opposed to the early gamble. We have a prolific offense, vs a supposedly weak opponent, and a whole game to play.

That said, there were at least 4 other headscratching decisions in the game. You don't see this kind of mismanagement from a veteran coach. Last year, it cost us games, but we were bad so who cared. This year, we're good, so these issues are way more important. It's one of our weakest links.

He’s not perfect thats for sure when it comes to clock management, but don’t underestimate how HE has this team playing great football. They never win that game with Garrett at head coach and being good coordinators has zero to do with being a good head coach. They’re completely different skillsets.

It's almost like this guy never coached before. But bums like this get multiple chances to make millions of dollars a year to be mediocre. Sickening.

Some fans look for the most insignificant things to complain about. The timeout was meaningless enjoy the road victory.

I don't think that's it. It has happened in most of, if not all of our games this year and we've been lucky. When it ends up biting us in the ***, I wonder how we'd feel then. He needs to tighten up before it hurts us.

Kicking a 51 yarder in an outdoor stadium when you have 4th & 1 was inexcusable. Moore is heralded as a great play caller ok let’s get one yard keep the chains moving and go deeper into Pats territory. The double QB sneaks when it’s first and goal at the one not good red zone strategy. Ultimately though the attempted 51 yarder is on the HC.
