Could McCarthy be trolling the NFL?

Coaches do stuff to set stuff up for later all the time.. I am not saying McCarthy IS doing this.. But I do wonder if that's not his plan.. He now knows that his offense can put 40 on bad teams and 30 on good teams.. I think that buys you confidence to try stuff that at first glance doesn't make sense.. So you can mess with people ..

- It maybe just me, but I tend to wonder If McCarthy is so persistent and ultra aggressive with these 4th and go for it , .for the sake of projecting importance and value as a HC, ..because
he is so paranoid about all the talk of Kellen Moore being new Cowboys HC

- With his walk around HC role, and his suspect game managing decisions, .. i really dunno what Mike's value lies.
It's not his offense, Kellen and Musseheimer consult and work with QB Dak, than the HC does

- Quinn runs his own defense, and i tend to think Q was more recommended to MM, than MM himself personally choosing him.
And if it were up to McCarthy he would have kept his buddy Mike Nolan here another year .. or so.

- The one stand out has been OL coach Joe Philibin who he worked closely with in GB.

The thing is, there's no advantage to bad clock management. It's not like other teams are gonna try to trick him into making the right decisions. He just needs someone next to him to advise him on when to work the clock. Other than that, his mistakes are just his gut feeling of what strategy to use, and no amount of advice is going to change his decision. Personally I really only have a problem with his clock management.

Are foxes generally known to be crazy? I never understood that colloquialism.
No, foxes are said to be sly, hence the expression "crazy like a fox" means one only looks to be crazy because you don't understand his true intentions.

That about sums it up.

Think back to the Superbowl we won with Switzer. The game against Philly " which we lost" where we ran emmitt into the left side of the line on 3rd and 4th down only to be stuffed twice and lose the game. To a man the players on that team said that those coaching decisions endeared them to Switzer because it showed he had supreme confidence in them. That game was credited with turning our season around and catapulting us to the Super Bowl. THAT is what MM is doing.....

Some of these unorthodox decisions have me thinking that McCarthy might be doing a little "crazy like a fox" dance on the NFL. Could he be making it so that the proverbial book on him in these situations starts to look like kindergarten scribble? I mean he can't be this crazy.. unless it's like a fox.. as I said..
Only a homer like you could think of something so completely ridiculous.

this thread is embarrassing.

All I know is this. The year he won the Superbowl with the Packers was a masterful job of coaching. Absolutely decimated with injuries. No problem...NEXT MAN UP. Wild card team that went all the way.

All the McCarthy is an idiot talk has me wondering.. Are we saying then that this team has such incredible talent at every position that it can be going 5-1 even without a rudder at the top? Not sure if I can get behind that line of reasoning. McCarthy is obviously doing something right.. Just because we don't understand the plan doesn't mean it's bad.

The OC and DC are rudders. The special teams coach is an oar in a boat. Mike's job is to stand there and manage the game. Of those two main responsibilities, he does his best at standing there.

How would it benefit him?

Later in the season or maybe in the playoffs.. all these rather vanilla fourth down plays we've run will be on film.. The opponent will have studied them and have their defense leaded up to stop those plays.. So you fake it to Zeke up the middle then roll Dak out and he probably has Schultz or Jarwin running naked in the secondary..

But that would be more so on Kellen Moore and the playcalling, right?

It just seems that MM is in over his head with this team and the attention it brings. I know he was in GB which is a pretty big market, but this is a whole different animal. Everything he’s doing is being scrutinized and I think it’s gotten in his head with some of these pointless timeouts he’s called.

Look man I don't know if you noticed but my post was a question not a statement. I honestly don't know what to make of the way McCarthy is managing these games.. I'm just trying to find a way to make sense of it other than he's just an idiot because frankly I don't buy that one..

I definitely agree a coach will run a certain play from a certain formation 2 or 3 times to set up a play down the line where they get into the same formation and then do something entirely different.

But I sure would like to hear the logic behind how that final TO of the first half is setting something up later on...

I think Ronnie is referring to some of Mac's 'meh' in game decisions...head scratchers, incompetent or just crazy like a fox? Or all of the above..who knows, but I think he's a little dopey to be honest. (Mac: not Ronnie!)
I think he is rope a dope dopey. He’s way smarter than some of you think.
