I think there are three potential 3 down "big" DT's in this draft. Davis, Mathis and Ridgeway. Ridgeway is still probably more of a projection right now, but I see him as a good scheme fit as a guy who could play 4T like Red Bryant or play 1T.

Mathis has some solid pass rushing production this season. Davis will never be a pass rusher, but he will be a 3 down pocket pusher in the D'aron Payne mold

Davis looks like a solid 1st rounder right now, where Mathis and Ridgeway are potential climbers

Agree to disagree…I’d be surprised if any of those dudes went in the first.

Not even close to being as good as Payne as a prospect IMO.

Haven't put a lot of time in yet but have started to look into some early big boards. I think our defense is headed in the right direction but also think we've got miles to go. We still give up a ton of yards that has been masked by opportune turnovers. I'm still looking defense early and often in the upcoming draft.

Assuming Thibodeaux, Hamilton, Stingley and Elam are all gone some of my early favorites include:

- Kingsley Enagbare: DE
- George Karlaftis: DE
- Jaquon Brisker: S
- Jordan Davis - DT
- Roger McCreary - CB
- Ahmad Gardner - CB
Jordan Davis is an absolute stud, he'd take this DL to a whole new level

I"m a big fan of Davis as a nasty run defender but he doesn't give you much as a pass rusher. He'll probably get over drafted as it's a weak DT class but I don't think I'd take him til the 3rd or on...likely a 2 down player in the NFL.

I’m not writing off the corners we took this year. This team needs pass rushers. I like Gregory, but I’m not investing a multi year contract in him. And I think Lawrence is going to be gone after next year. We might be able to replace Williams with someone in house, and I think Schultz is a guy they should prioritize. We’re going to have to replace Gallup and that may require a premium pick. The offense is what makes this team tick. Have to make sure you have all those pieces in place.

If we head in to next year without Gregory or Lawrence we’d be setting our defense up for failure…yikes.

Yes he would help take this defense to the top. Davis and Parsons would ensure there'd be no running up the middle, and both could collapse the pocket into the QB's face.

Lawrence is definitely here for next year. 2023 is when I think he goes. If you can keep Gregory on a heavily incentive based deal then he’s worth keeping. Pretty good pass rushing class and hope we can land 1 of them.

I’d do everything I can to keep both AND add a pass rusher. Having 3 good ones is a good thing.

After next year Lawrence makes little sense. He’s like a 27 million dollar cap # and they can save like 18 million if they release him after 2022. This is the year to draft his replacement.

Yea but he’s still a really, really good player. His last full year he was top 10 in pass rush productivity and run stops. It’s so hard to hit on good players I wouldn’t just let him go and hope I hit on a draft pick.

Plus I don’t see us picking top 10 anytime soon and that’s where those kind of pass rushers usually go unless you get really lucky.

There’s no chance that the Cowboys keep him at that #. He not worth it now and definitely won’t be worth it in 2023.This is a better pass rushing class than 2021. This is the year to get someone.

I just don't understand what you're basing your argument off of in saying he's not worth being a highly paid player now..all above average FAs are overpaid that's the nature of sports. In 2020:

-Overall Grade: 88.6 (ranked 5th among EDGEs)
- Pass Rush Grade: 85.7 (ranked 8th)
-Defensive Stops: 36 (ranked t-3rd)
- 50+ tackles
- 37 pressures

All of this while being the focal point of opposing OCs and eating double teams. Please don't come back just using sacks are your argument.

I know Lawrence has long been a darling of PFF but sacks do matter. I don’t see a difference maker. He’s got better players around him now and there should be more. He’s not going anywhere next year, but I don’t see any way this team pays him 27 million in 2023. We’ll see...

Ok, so what I’m hearing is you’re using sacks as a barometer for success and what makes an edge a difference maker. Strongly, strongly disagree as there is so much more that goes into it.

I've got $100 that says (barring injury) Davis goes not only in the first, but in the top 15. Wanna take that bet?

It wouldn't surprise me if he went top 5.

If I knew you personally I’d take that bet all day and twice on Sunday…I could see him going bottom of the first bc it’s a weak class but I’d be absolutely shocked if he went top 15.

I said sacks matter. I think he’s a heck of run defender but regardless of the 37 pressures noted by PFF I don’t see a top tier pass rusher. I could be wrong but I don’t see this team taking his contract in to 2023. We’ll just have to wait and see.

There were only 2 players on the top 10 list in 2020 for both pass rush productivity and run stop productivity and he was one of them. Yes, sacks do matter but it’s a terrible measure of success for an Edge if that’s all you’re using.
