I personally believe the analytics craze is overdone, but I thought this was what so many wanted. If you're going to complain that we're outdated and unscientific in our decision making, you can't then complain when we use the analytics and the outcome is a negative one. You can't have it both ways

I like the analytics and agreed with the decision to do for it.

I’d have gone for it instead of kicking the field goal instead of trying a 51 yard field goal. That’s the one where I was upset.

I agree with what you are saying....still think Analytics should be part of the game...but experienced coaches have a feel for how the game is being played.....
I dont see how Analytics could be accurate, they dont include many factors.
I think if anything you make your own Analytics, but even that may not have a good success rate.

Opinions vary.

I have a brain. I'm not the scarecrow who needs someone else to do his thinking for him. So screw someone else's analytics I'll use my brain to do my own analytics.

MM made a bad call going for it early in game. His decision gave them a short field. And to the people who say he was right...well let's just get rid of our punter and our kicker and go for everything, everytime.

I think biggest reason Fat Mike went for it on 4th down in the 1st quarter was due to the fact that we were playing against a rookie QB and an offense that hasn't done much all year. He probably also had confidence in our defense to hold them to a FG at worst if we didn't make it.

And with how our offense has been playing, he probably thought the reward was worth the risk at that point in the game.
I don't think he would have gone for it if we were playing against a good offense with a vet QB.

If nothing else I like the aggressiveness and trust in the offense. I still think at your own 34, the first drive, was a bit of a reach though.

It seems that McCarthy is following the formula here, though, for the most part, but being more aggressive early and a little more conservative later when the outcome is clearer.
Analytics does not ignore situational football or the time remaining and the score in a game. Analytics are applied; they do not dictate all the time.

I don't because he's facing an inferior team with a rookie QB and has the best balanced offense in the league. The BE D is a shell of it former self and he's averaging 34 ppg.

If that same situation arises in BUF, KC, GB, LAR or AZ, I don't think he takes that risk but NE isn't really a player now. But I don't know, ne might do that because he really believes in his offense.

If you are an offensive minded HC and believe your offense is better than any defense, the old school thinking gets questioned.

The strategy in every game is the same, score points to bring pressure on the OC to score and thereby take some more chances. This is exactly what happened in 2014. The OC's were tossing their pregame strategy for scoring tactics and the Cowboys ranked 2nd in picks that season.

I will not criticize him going for it but I do reserve the right to criticize the play called or execution. All of this criticism is because they failed to execute the play properly.
