Can’t pay everyone and the offense doesn’t miss a beat without him.

You want to pay all these guys and tough decisions have to be made.

Im sorry but Gregory and Schultz will be high priorities.

Then you have a ton of guys who are on the last year of their deals.
Yeah. Gallup is a luxury. A luxury I'd love to keep if it made sense, but it doesn't really.

Randy Gregory, our best pass-rusher, is a pending free agent and he's putting together a beast of a year. Everyone is also so happy to finally have really good safety play, but don't forget 3 of our 4 safeties (all the newcomers) are pending free agents and the other one has only 1 year left. Maintaining our pass-rush and good safety play are a necessity, not a luxury, to me. Paying our 3rd receiver #1 money, matching what the market will offer him, will make it impossible to do right by our defense.

Choosing to pay to keep the entire offense intact while letting key defenders walk seems silly and dumb to me. Like we'd be making a deliberate choice that the 2021 results are nice but we'd really rather go back to being the team we were in 2020 prior to the Dak injury, needing Dak to be a 7,000 yard passer just to keep us in games.

And we have Dak, Zeke, Tank, Cooper, and a Right Guard that is max paid. Wilson can do most of what Gallup can do.

I was merely correcting your statement that "no team has two max WRs." Maybe not this year but KC did for at least two seasons.. and were in the Super Bowl both years.. Getting to the Super Bowl is not about how much guys are paid.. it's about how well they play..

It's crazy how much disrespect WR Michael Gallup is getting around here. Have fans forgotten truly how good he is and how much he has meant to the Cowboys? Jerry, McCarthy and the Cowboys would be fools to allow Michael Gallup to leave. Gallup easily would be another team's #1 starting WR. That's how good he is. Here is a reminder of how good Michael Gallup is and why the Cowboys need to find a way to keep him...

BTW, Michael Gallup led the Cowboys the past 2 seasons in 1st down receptions. In other words, Gallup is our team's best sticks mover down the field game in and game out. Plus, he tied with both Amari and CeeDee in TD receptions last year while he has led in yards average/reception the last two seasons.

Gotta hang on to our receiver group. The best in the league.

I love Gallup, but what is Wilson making? No way we can sign Gallup to a deal, knowing that 2 years down the road is Cee Dee. IF Cooper continues to be avg and constantly injured, then the team will have a decision to make. Keep Gallup and let cooper go, or let Gallup go and keep cooper.

Wilson has made it very clear he can be a very good 3, and Brown can also be a very solid 4. There is no way we can keep Gallup at the expense of Gregory or Schultz IMO.

I would love to keep Gallup however I know that likely will not happen. I don't see Cooper getting released, I think his contract will be restructured to help free up money but I doubt it will be to resign Gallup not when we know we have other key players we need to retain. If by some chance Cowboys can get Gallup signed great love having him but being realistic I don't see that happening

It’s going to be tough to field a team as good as this one next season but the draft was so good last year the past couple of years that we are a little ahead of schedule in terms of overcoming some of these big contracts.
I haven’t seen the slants. We definitely miss him. It was just a trust Prescott has

There’s so much talent on wide receiver. But they all seem to have their individual talent. Cooper route running. Wilson just goes up for the ball. Cd burner. I don’t know who they’re going to decide to keep. But I would love to have them all. I think Gallup is the guy they let go for some reason

I don’t think anyone disrespects him
But you can’t have two very expensive WR and maybe the best one due soon
It’s just the economics of the nfl
Keeping Schultz is more important but there are always guys you can’t keep

Seriously man, no one is disrespecting him.
He's a really good player and I hope we do keep him.
You just have to understand the economics of the game to know he will likely leave for a better deal.
I wish the NFL had a mechanism for keeping your own draft picks and not all of it counting on your cap, but every team does play by the same rules.
One thing I'll mention:
The cap has been almost frozen for 2 seasons now due to Covid. Perhaps we will see a big rise in cap this off season.
Fans are back in stadiums and we are seeing some amazing games this season.
Also, in the NFC at least, some marquee franchises look playoff bound (I'll mention the Cowboys, Packers, Rams and Bucs, who with Brady are a marquee franchise for TV purposes).
Perhaps the new TV deal looming will also greatly increase the cap when it comes up.
If I'm the Cowboys, I'm figuring that you need 3 starting receivers in today's game.
If Jerry knows the TV deal is going to explode the cap in a few years, signing Gallup to a 4 year, 64-72 mil deal may be a bargain in a few years. I'm also an NBA fan, and I remember a few years back when the Warriors had Draymond Green and Klay Thompson as impending free agents. People were saying there was no way they could keep them at max deals. But they did, and those max deals (which were like 15 mil per year back then), looked like bargains as the cap kept increasing. So maybe we can find a way.
Lastly, the first year of a new deal can be very affordable. Like Tank got 5-105 (21 mil per) but his first year only cost us 11 if I recall.
Maybe we can do something similar with MG, and buy us that year until the cap grows and his deal doesn't look so bad.
I'd still have to guess he gets a better offer, but I'd love to see us keep him.
If it did come down to keeping either Gallup or Schultz AND Wilson as much as I'd hate to see Gallup go I'd probably keep Schultz and Wilson.

The cap is estimated to go up but we are already over with 45 signed. It could go up more than estimated but over the cap has been fairly good at estimating it in the past though last year threw things off kilter
I agree on Schultz and Wilson and I’d probably cut Jarwin and go with McKeon

After watching Cooper this past weekend, I believe JJ needs to keep Gallup. I know everybody loves Coop, but he's starting to look a little slow to me. He didn't appear to have that next gear to shake the corner. I know he has good hands and makes incredible catches, but the wear and tear is starting to show in his game....................

I believe Kansas City had the #2 and #5 highest paid receivers in Hill and Watkins in 2019 and 2020.. Watkins contract ran out in 2020 but it seemed to have worked out for them. Oh and they also had the highest paid TE in that same time..

yup, tyreek and kelce. woods and kupp. odell and landry. ours is somewhat unique though. think it all hinges on tank, honestly.

Love Gallup, he was a tremendous pick and has been awesome for the team.

That doesn't matter though. When we drafted CD we sealed Gallups fate.

Coop is more valuable than Gallup and he's already signed. Unless Gallups market is depressed I don't believe we can put that many resources at the WR position.

If you retain Gallup who does it cost you? Gregory, Kearse, Schultz? Which of these guys would you part ways with over Gallup?

I'll be thrilled if they find a way to keep him but not if it costs us key players on defense. We have an abundance of wealth on the offense and we need to keep focus on stabilizing and improving the defense.

While I agree that there has definitely been some people forgetting how good Gallup is, IMO, it will be him or Cooper. You just can't afford both and I think Wilson is good enough to be a #3.

I’d keep Gallup and let Cooper go. Why pay #1 WR money when he’s not our #1 WR? And Gallup contracts demands should be much less after missing almost half the season.

probably because he IS our number one. makes life that much easier for CeeDee, and gallups contract will be less (marginally) because he's not nearly as good as Coop.

Amari Cooper is no longer our #1 WR.

CeeDee Lamb is. CeeDee has made huge improvements and strides this 2nd season in the NFL, and he's not looking back.

Here, take a look...

@Diehardblues is correct in what he said a few posts just above. ^^^^

Why keep paying ridiculous overpaid #1 money to Amari Cooper when CeeDee is now our new #1 WR?

I say ask Amari Cooper to take a pay cut if he wants to remain a Cowboy. If he accepts, great. He stays. If he refuses, make him a June 1st cut, save $9+ million for next year, and use that savings to resign Michael Gallup who is 2 years younger than Cooper...and healthier but as productive every year.

Jerry and the Cowboys need to start cutting down on those overpaid contracts NOW if they truly want to be able to retain most of the same team for the next few years.

Amari is overpaid and most likely will be addressed at season's end, dude. Relax.
