I should’ve said posts like yours become a joke because the standard becomes the same as it used to be.

I don't work for the team. Just a fan. I don't give speeches to the team, establish their culture. Don't make their mottos--though maybe in a mojo-moment I could do better.

And I don't take the NFL very seriously. It's just entertainment to me.

If 'Boys ended the year as NFC champs, with 15 regular season wins and two playoff wins, and tons of achievements...that would bring me a lot of enjoyment. A Super Bowl loss would sure hurt, but I'd get over that and remember the good stuff.

That's just my perspective. I knew it would be a different view than most here.

If that's a "joke" to you...that's fine. Doesn't hurt my feelings.

I get the feeling people aren’t enjoying the journey so far. They are ready to fast forward to January. I get that. But it’s been sooooo long when since we’ve played this well I’m enjoying every second.

This. We un-promised years of our lives waiting on seasons like this…the last time we looked this good was 2016. Not to get emotional but a lot of people who were around then aren’t anymore. Life is short.

I’m gonna enjoy every single week and just hope for the best at the end! Either way I’m all in!

I like that perspective. Remember when college football just had around 20 bowl games and no playoff system? That was better. A team that went 10-2 and won a bowl game could call themselves a champ...and in truth they earned something.

Now with hundreds of colleges there is only one champ--and only the big money schools have a shot.

A good Cowboys season and deep playoff run would be a very enjoyable season for me.

I’ve said it before that no loss haunts an NFL fan mode than a Super Bowl loss.

It’s why I will always hate the Steelers (we still owe them one more).

If you’re gonna get there, you better win it all or take it to your grave, because losing a SB sucks and the memory never goes away.
In addition to the three Super Bowl losses, the Cowboys have two other NFL Championship game defeats - both to the Packers.

Asking all in this thread, Does your view of the NFL look like this:
31 teams are *Losers* and *Failures* each year?
1 team, 1 team alone is successful and a *Winner*?

Me? I regard that view as a five-megaton flaming turd asteroid from hell hurtling toward Earth to destroy humanity forever, replacing all consciousness with a million mile wide Cartman/Risen-fart-gas-cloud.

Yes. That’s what reality and the real world looks like.

There are no green participation ribbons in the NFL.
Either you win it all, or you lose.

I renounce participation ribbons, and I knew that was going to come up in this thread.

If you are one of the top three or four teams in this league...I view that as a huge success. To get to the top 10% in this league? That came with many coaches enduring sleepless nights, and with players sucking up huge injuries, and with massive talent and performance.

That's success. Sweet success.

Then you start looking at individual players and coaches:

Is Aaron Donald a LOSER because he doesn't have a Super Bowl title?

Would be a great season, but I'd rather roll the dice at a chance to win it all.

I'll consider this season a success if we can make it past the Divisional round. It's time to at least get that monkey off our backs.

Thought experiment for you:

If you could guarantee lock-in the following for the 2021 season:
  • 15-2 Cowboys record
  • Dak MVP
  • Parsons Rookie of the Year
  • Diggs DPOY
  • A dominant divisional playoff win
  • A spectacular NFC championship game win
  • Super Bowl appearance where game is entertaining and well-played

You could lock in all this...but that 'package' required locking in:
...........Cowboys lose Super Bowl game by last second field goal to say...the Chargers...

Would you take that package deal...and lock it in right now?

I would.

If the alternative result is winning the SB, then my response would be Hell No...on the flip side, if the alternative is missing the SB...then of course the response is Hell Yes...it all centers around getting to the SB and hopefully winning it...everything else is window dressings...nice to have but not necessary.

As a player.....AD is phenomenal. But his team is certainly not a winner.

This is a team sport. Not a sport for individual awards.

Same for Dan Marino. Overall he is one of the greatest QBs, but unfortunately he is considered a loser. I could care less for individual awards and statistics.

SB is the ultimate.....I had one team that I thought we could contend for a state championship....we didn't win it and even though I won some awards, 6 of my players were named to the AP all state team it still bugs me, 13 years later....nothing like winning as a TEAM.

Yes it is a team sport, and in the last four years:
Rams, Ravens, Chiefs, Bucs, Saints, Bills, Packers, Titans have been successful teams, even if only two of them have been champs.

Those teams have provided consistent winning, smart leadership, entertaining football.

No such package offered in this thought experiment. You lock in our offer...or you can roll the dice and get what you get.

You may want to consider our vacation packages to Cabo. Some great deals there. ;)

i see what you are doing and yes because we are rolling the dice on it being much worse like 1st/2nd round loss.

so to know our fate at worse is close SB loss...yes ill take it..lock it in..

I wouldn't take that package....a Super Bowl win trumps any individual accolades!!! Give me a Super Bowl win anytime, any day, any how!!!
And I'm sure if you asked the players, they would say the same thing....they WANT a Super Bowl win!!
