I think the biggest reason for our success is the turn around of the defense. They still struggle vs the run but have been opportunistic with the turnovers. The offense was already up to par maybe not hitting on all cylinders everygame but they weren't the weak link.

I believe the balance on offense combined with our defense forcing turnovers while still being a bottom half of the league overall defense is the biggest reason we are winning.

Once again I’m not denying that he needs help. The statement I made was he makes everything go. If Andy Dalton is our quarterback right now we are not 5-1.
I say he gives us better chance to win in this NOW situation brah

if AD come heres as backup and plays the Vikes and game after to let daks calf heal its better and when Dak comes back we can at least feel good having solid backup.

OH on if AD is our day one starter, sure its different.

BTW we may have not been as dynamic but the way we played and lost to TB maybe , we lose bigger so its still a loss. but the next 4 games the run game and defense were more then adequate to win id Dalton doesn't turn it over and he doesnt do that a lot..hes a bus driver..he can hold it down IF the team is as is..

If AD is thr qb you think MM is dodi all that crazy stiff with NY and NE? no and Dak makes us dynamic and expllosive but AD with the way we won game 2, 3, and 4 with the run game more prominent

im not sure we lose, we just dont win by the same margins..

lets remember how much Dak was turning it over and losing games the first 5 last season without a defense , OL, and run game..

Dak clearly above Dalton, no debate at all but lets keep the facts straight on how much the rest of this team and coaching has changed from last season. Health, defense , coaching and energy, etc etc

so we MUST acknowledge the rest of the team.. in the past AD won 10 games many times when he had a solid team around him..

Id like AD as backup, not starter, but with Daks calf id like to rest dak the next 2 games bring in better backup like Dalton..

we dont need the calf lingering into bigger games..

NFL teams have a 69% win percentage when their quarterback has a 100.00+ Passer Rating:omg:

Great Quarterbacks simply make their team win. There is no “great” QB with a losing record. Our Quarterback made the jump to elite this season... and that’s the real reason we’re winning. Somebody like Baker Mayfield would have us below .500. Browns have more talent than the Cowboys on both sides of the ball and won’t even make the playoffs.

Good post.

I think Mayfield could be better. I think he has an OC issue.
I have not watched a lot this year. But the past few years. It seems most of this throws are too far down field. Either trying to hit the big play, or they or long intermediate routes.
I did not see a lot of dinks and dunks when needed. Always over 10 yard throws, so it seemed.
They have Chubb, whom I think is one of the top RB's, but they do not use the shorter passes to enhance the run game. It is run or long pass.

Anyway who cares about that. It is the Browns.

Now Dak, most said he could not throw down field, was a dink and dunker . He had the run game, the shorter passes. But now he is one of the most accurate downfield passers.
He was brought long the correct way. Plus he has better player now of course. But the point is, he has improved on different aspects of his game to be that all around elite QB.

Yes, Dak is the biggest reason but even with his level of play, he needs a defense that can at least get 5 or 6 stops a game and not let the other team score at will. There are going to be close games. You have to have a defense that can make a stop late in the 4th quarter or you are doomed to lose early in the playoffs.

The turnovers on defense is what is saving this defense. If not for those, I sometimes wonder how some of these games end up.
Still too many wide open receivers and though they are ranked high in the low amount of rushing yards given up. Look at the YPC on that.
We get a lead, and teams have to pass, therefore getting more yards in that category. Though we have been behind at half often. So not sure about the rushing yards in the 1st half. It is a weird stat though I have not look at 1st vs 2nd half.

In 1989 at 1-15, they were like 1st or 2nd in passing defense, but last in rushing defense. Kind of opposite this year but not as bad.

Defense still needs work.

Nope. The biggest reason we are winning is the defense. Our offense has been good for a long time and that got us 8-8 in 2019. Dak was slinging huge numbers in 2020 before his injury............we were 1-3.

You won the way you did because Dak, the motor allowed you to play that way. Its a completely different gameplan for a defense if you have Dalton out there.

Let's remember why the Cowboys went on the win streak they did. It was because the Cowboys were protecting leads unlike in the Buccaneers game which is why they lost. Because they relied on Dak's arm. Andy Dalton is not capable of building a lead and you'd have teams pounding the rock against our run defense that's been porous but masked by the fact teams are airing it out against us to keep up with the offense.

Saying that Dak is the motor that makes this team go is not disrespecting the rest of the team. Its just calling it how I see it. Because if the offense stunk and the defense was great? We'd still lose. If the defense and running game were great but Dak stunk? We'd more than likely lose. If Dak and the defense are playing at a high level but the running game isn't? I mean we saw last game how that went. A W. If Dak is going but the run game and defense are struggling? We will be in the game but probably result in a loss. I don't think you need all 3 to be hitting at one time but you need at least team of them and the QB has to be one.

So this is a narrative that keeps getting lost about last season.....do y'all remember when the Cowboys were one of the best teams in the league at turnovers? It didn't start off that way...they went from the worst to one of the best in the same season. It still didn't result in many more wins.

The reason why the defense looks good to you guys is because the offense is putting up points and teams are having to try to catch up with us. Teams would be running down our throats in close game. The defense is better than last year but its not some great unit. They are pedestrian in sack numbers, the give up big runs, they give up passing yards.....they generate turnovers and its really been Diggs generating them.

The uncanny combination of not necessarily needing stellar QB play to win, but having a dude who is performing out of his mind, opens a lot of doors for the Cowboys offense. That kind of horsepower, as we are seeing, is unstoppable unless it stops itself.

Dak may not have surprised any of you guys but this year he has surprised the s,,,,out of me. I was a Dak supporter and viewed him around 9th ranked QB and all of a sudden he is burning down the house.

We had a losing record with Dak starting last year.

QB play is ALWAYS why teams win or lose
That is why “great” QBs are great only if they take their teams deep into the playoffs and play in and win SBs
If Dak wants to be known for more than having made a lot of money he will have to lead this team to SBs and I’m hoping he will
exactly.

No QB is a hall of famer or even “GOod” if they can’t at least make the afc/nfc championship game

So what happens when 6 teams get great QB play at one time........do they all win the SB?
To be fair look at it this way.

We all know only Brady Dak Rodgers and Murray have a real shot to win or at least be in the NFC championship.

No coincidence they all have 4 of the top 6 passer ratings:omg: and are a combined 20-4?

no that’s not true. Correlation in this case is TOO strong a case for causation.

Dak has only had a 100+ passer rating in a season twice.

This year and 2016. he’s a combined 18-4 in those games. His passer rating below 95? 23-28.

He wasn’t. He was really bad in 2019 but was doing his best Brett Farve impression so the stats looked gaudy.

TD% is what you pay attention to as a truly good QB.

We win that browns and rams game and have a winning record before his injury if Dak wasn’t so sloppy with the ball. Take 2021 Dak and put him back on the 2019 team we still have a winning record with half of these games being even bigger blow outs due to his #1 deep threat being back and Dak’s insane ability to maneuver the pocket now
