He was paid as a top pass rusher and since his contract his sacks and pressures have decreased.
He was paid as a DE. One who rushes the passer AND stops the run. He's been limited in sacks because teams could double team or even triple team him because there was no one else capable of getting pressure on the QB. Now we have an improved and focused Gregory as well as Osa. Good luck double teaming him when he gets back.

Tank will be a welcomed addition to the DL. With Gregory starting to get going on the other side, Tank cannot be double teamed and he will be a great asset to the run defense.

Defense will only get better with he, Galimore, Hill and Wilson all returning to the defensive rotation.

I hear this a lot and it’s obvious why, the man just killed it in his limited snaps at that position. But here is my question. I would assume (without any nfl experience) that the coaches would be concerned with the long term wear and tear on his body from consistently going up against guards and tackles.
Coaches don't worry about long term. They are in it for the short term. Owners arent worried about long term either until the player is signed to a 2nd contract.

Opponents will no longer be able to focus on him the way they have in the past. Who will they double team, him or Gregory?

What does the opponent do if the Cowboys put Lawrence, Gregory, and Parsons on the line for 3rd and long? And don't forget to add in Osa.

Lawrence will do well with the improved talent on defense.

Stop. You are overdosing us on talent.

Dallas, thru 6 games, is giving up an average of 4.3 YPC against the run, which puts them middle of the pack in the league. In 2020, Dallas was near the bottom of the league against the run giving up 5 YPC ( a season everyone agrees was a horrible defense). In 2019, Dallas was closer to the top of the league in run defense giving up 4.1 YPC. In 2018 Dallas was Top 5 against the run by giving up 3.8 YPC. In 2017 Dallas was middle of the pack against the run giving up 4.1 YPC. Lastly, in 2016 Dallas was Top 10 against the run giving up 3.9 YPC.

So, in comparing the start of 2021 with 2019 (seeing as how 2020 was an epic failure season for the defense), there is a difference of .2 YPC. So without DLaw the Dallas defense is not showing much of a decrease so DLaw isn't getting the sacks & pressures and the run defense isn't experiencing a dramatic decrease in his absence.....yet DLaw is a $20M+ impactful player?????
You can't compare 2018, 2019 to 2021 unless the roster is the same, which it's not. In fact it's MUCH different. Different coaching as well.
So to suggest the defense wouldn't be better with Lawrence is incredibly shortsighted. Why wouldn't you want to be even better?
The recent past defenses weren't good enough to carry into the postseason. This one is significantly better. Adding Lawrence would be scary.

Then we have a huge hole at linebacker. Tank on one end and Gregory on the other make us a formidable pass rush.
They got a huge hole anyways. Parsons can't cover and 2/3rds the time teams are passing. If they blitzed him every down Id be fine with him playing anywhere but they keep dropping him into coverage. He's better off just being on the line. Our best defense so far this year was against the Chargers with him starting at DE
