There were only 2 players on the top 10 list in 2020 for both pass rush productivity and run stop productivity and he was one of them. Yes, sacks do matter but it’s a terrible measure of success for an Edge if that’s all you’re using.
The bottom line is I think I can find as good a pass rusher in this year’s draft. Will he be as complete as Lawrence ?No. But there are players that can compliment a pass rusher already on the roster. 27 million is a huge figure. He’s got a much better supporting cast around him. So we’ll see what he does over the next couple years. We’ll see how it plays out.

IMO it's not easy to hit on a quality edge. Here's every player drafted in the first 2 rounds outside the top 20 over the last 3 years (2018-2020). Leaving rookies out due to sample size.

Harold Landry
Breeland Speaks
Tyquan Lewis
Montez Sweat
LJ Collier
Yetur Gross Matos
Marlon Davidson
Darrell Taylor
AJ Epenesa

The only guy in the same tier as Lawrence is maybe Landry who isn't nearly as good against the run. Sweat is ok, but he gets the benefit of a ton of 1:1s playing opposite of Young. I can understand trying to get the salary off the books but in doing so your pass rush is most likely taking a step backwards on a defense that is already not good.

In rounds 1-3 the team should still be looking to build from the inside out. We should be looking to add playmaking DTs/DEs and OL (specifically OG or C).

Linebacker is another position that will need an influx of talent. LVE is likely to walk, Neal is a free agent, and only guys like Gifford and Bernard as depth.

Looks like a Tyrone Crawford starter kit…I like him and can’t wait to see what kind of athlete he is.
I thought the same thing. But he’s been super impressive these last few weeks

I'm all for continuing to beef up the lines if the value is there but we also need to address the pass D which has been below average and we haven't even played great QBs yet outside of Herbert.

- Y/A - 7th worst in the league
- Yards - 3rd worst in the league

Yeah, I’m not sure how I left that out. This is going to be a strong cornerback class too.

Might be the strongest group based off early review. I'd love to add 1 in the top 100.
Last 2 drafts Cowboys have selected 4 CBs, so do y'all feel like CB is a position you draft yearly or is it a reflection of ineffective drafting?

I'm certainly in favor of drafting the positional strengths of the draft class.

Ill say CB is a position you need numbers. Most years you have to expect playing CB's a high amount of snaps. This year is an exception because we are playing S's over CB's in dime

We drafted 3 CB's on day 2 the last two drafts. Thats good, however you still expect to hit on all of them. Where we are right now, we will have to hit on all three to ne good at the position. Thats where I think adding another somewhere in the first 100 of the draft would be a good idea

I think the CB and DE class are pretty good. And I wouldn’t be surprised if they go WR in the top 100.
