I was a self proclaimed tanker last year

You don't need to actively try to lose but there's a number of things we could have done
  • We could have sent Tank into surgery early giving him a head start on his off-season rehab. Him rushing back/being underdone probably played a part in the foot injury.
  • We could have put more development into Biadasz (over Looney), Gregory/Armstrong (over Aldon Smith), and McKeon (over Bell). We've seen the benefits with Shultz. Diggs, and Steele of prioirtizing their development
  • Making trades to free salary cap, and stockpile draft picks by getting rid of players that aren't part of future plans.
Under no circumstances should we have players doing anything other than try to win, or even actively tanking. But we should be prioritizing future years in seasons once the chance of playoffs is gone.

The key to tanking is “playing the young guys”.

HA! Was looking through my old store of IMGUR images and ran across this one. Had forgotten all about it. Glad I never deleted it, lol.

If its nonsense, then where was he predicted to go?

AROUND WHERE HE WENT. Exactly what I said.

I could even pull up a quote from me the day of our last game last saying saying welp go get Micah Parsons.
So you don't remember all the talk about CBs? How convenient?

Good job my man.

I feel like the team growing and learning itself was important to this season. They came together some as they played much better ball down the stretch.

That growth and togetherness that was formed last season is absolutely part of this season’s team. A winning coach coming in to a new team always improves as the year goes on. The team responds to the coaching and, like a battleship changing directions, the franchise begins its slow turn towards respectability.

That is what was happening in the second half of 2020, and it is (IMO) more important to the following season than a lot of fans think.

i think that the fight they showed last season carried over, and that's pretty valuable. they were also fortunate that parson's fell in their laps. but there's a part of me that would be fine w/ a trade down for a first next year and any number of players. and i still think they could have wound up with parsons +

Of course he was if you want to reimage history. LOL

All we could talk about back then was Surtain or Horn at CB. We thought surely one of those two would fall to us. So get out of here with your nonsense about, "he was predicted".

Surtain and Horn were all the talk in the media but it came out the week before the draft that the Cowboys front office didn't think they would get access to one of the top two corners. To me, after that it was really down to two players or a trade down/trade up. I don't think it was dumb luck that we traded down and took Parsons. I think that was actually good management and awareness of the situation. I do probably agree though that it will be dumb luck if we end up getting the best/most valuable player out of the draft outside the QB's.

He was projected to go around where he went. That isn't luck.
He wasn't what we were targeting originally. I hear what you are saying but it doesn't mean we didn't luck into getting him after failing to get our original target.

That last sentence there is all I'm saying, so thank you for agreeing with me.

Nah.... once the QB goes out for the season, season is over. So you arent playing for a SB, so nothing wrong with getting better picks. Sorry, thats just reality.
There was zero doubt in my mind that Dak was gonna return and we were gonna be competing this year. So getting better players to put on the team around him was a good thing.

If we tanked we'd have missed out on parsons and probably have horn.

Good thing we didn't tank.

yawn......... every year there are players you "Miss," out on. Look at the last three drafts and there is going to be players every year that we passed on that ended up being studs.
Higher draft picks should result in better players OVERALL.

We were sitting 2-7 in November so if we tanked, we in all likelihood would have ended up with pick 3 (Houston 4-12 ended up with that pick). San Francisco traded pick 12 + 2022 1st + 2023 1st + 2022 3rd for Pick 3. So in all likelihood, we would have gotten Parsons (pick 12) and 2 future 1st round picks in a tanking scenario.

Doubtful.

It was the right move then and I would do it again. I don’t buy into this “loser mentality” nonsense. We turned over half the roster from last year. They don’t care what the team did last season.
