They can call it a block if they want (I don't know what the strict definition is) I'm just saying to ME, a blocked kick would go backwards, not forwards.

And 'block' or not, if the punted ball goes past the line of scrimmage, punt return rules apply. That's all.
Your last line says it all.

I cannot for the life of me comprehend what people are arguing about. Or how this should be changed. It's such a simple rule and I don't see the logic in changing it.

The only bad play was from the Cowboys player that touched the ball after it passed the line of scrimmage without properly securing the ball. It was a good play by Denver. One of many on the day.

If I partially block the kick that's not enough force to reverse the trajectory of a just punted football.

So you disagree with the tipped pass rule too?

A tipped pass is played under different rules, a tipped punt should too.

I don't understand what the problem is.. Most people were not aware of this rule until Sunday.. Now that we've seen it, we think it stinks.. Yes partly because it screwed our beloved Cowboys.. but also because it stinks. The NFL has figured out that certain rules stink dozens of times since I started watching.. Remember when two offensive players could not touch the ball after it was thrown unless a defensive player touched it in between? They figured out that was a stupid rule and they changed it. Remember when a defender could slap an offensive lineman upside the head? They figured out that was a stupid rule and they changed it. Remember when guys could whack each other in the face while blocking, rushing the passer or covering? They figured out that was a stupid rule and they changed it. Remember when defenders could lead with their helmet when hitting an ball carrier? They figured out that was a stupid rule and they changed it.. Same with the offensive player leading with the helmet. Remember when players were not required to wear any pads except shoulder pads and helmets? They figured out that it was stupid to have million dollar a game athletes out for bruises that could have been prevented by simply wearing the pads they had been issued. So again.. they changed it. I could keep going all day.. The game is ever evolving.. I've stated many times this one won't change until it screws one of the favored teams in the playoffs.. But just because we seldom see a rule impact a game doesn't mean it doesn't stink. IMHO this one clearly does.

I disagree. A punt is an intentional giving of the ball to the other team. A pass is not.

The rules for a punt aren't stupid, so...no.

a block punt that hits a defensive player should just be dead on the spot.

Gonna have to disagree because if that is the case.....then you would never get a TD returned from a blocked punt....eliminating a potential game changing play.

How many times do you see late in games....a team burning TOs to force another team to kick....A lot.

Say your down 26-21.....with just a few seconds left....It's 4th down....your going to rush everyone in order to block that kick. Is it a low percentage play???? Sure it is.....but it's a chance none the less to turn a game around.

Don't want to lose that opportunity. ;)

I highly doubt that is the reason for the tipped pass non interference rule. I have no idea why and cannot find out why the rule is different if a pass is tipped, but I suspect it is due to a tipped pass had it's intended arc changed and has become a bit of a wildcard situation and the same could be said of a tipped punt. If rules are different for a tipped pass they should be different for a tipped punt.
