Good question but I don't have an answer for you.
It could be that Parsons doesn't get credit for a TFL on the strip sack because technically he didn't tackle Ryan, he force a fumble which was recovered by another player. Looking at other player stats, I notice that Markus Golden has 9 sacks, 4 forced fumbles and only 6 TFLs. So, apparently strip sacks do not count as TFLs in Pro Football Reference.

Nobody here has ever, to my knowledge, actually tried to look at real data to make a comparison. It's all been subjective.

Since I work in science and data, I thought it would be interesting. If it's not your cup of tea, feel free to find someplace else to post.

How far down field was Jaylon making tackles last year? Curious too about LVE. All in comparison to this new star we have.

Quite interesting, I would have thought, for inquisitive fans here.
I’m interested in what you come up with for last year. Jaylon isn’t, wasn’t and never will be Micah, but narratives get framed for a player and coach which may not be completely accurate. The noted economist Thomas Sowell made a very good point about labels or narratives. He argued that they can be akin to propaganda tactics because they often must be "repeated long enough and loud enough" until it is believed and people "cave in" to it and they become detached from the reality.

One of my favorite humans, and that quote is poignant is it not? More so in today's world than ever.

I've certainly assumed that my "eye-test" of Jaylon and LVE often making downfield tackles is correct. Maybe the data will show otherwise.

I'll be working w/Atlanta data tonight. Glad you brought this up as I'm trying to properly capture and categorize all variables. Sometimes I compare ESPN's play-by-play data w/Pro Football Reference.

Absolutely. An honorable and class individual in a time of classlessness run rampant.

I don't know if I should bother posting on this forum anymore.

It seems to be drifting towards twitter-type posts that don't provoke thought, inspire good dialog, or help anyone learn anything. Since I often actually take time to research my posts...is it worth it?

Right now I'd have to say no.
Ignore the vocal minority or realists if you prefer to call them that

You obviously don't want to get over Jaylon tormenting you. Rather than just enjoying having Micah now, you have to dwell on the Jaylon years.
He is and was not dwelling on anything you are just looking for someone to argue with

Post on. People will criticize anything. So what?

This is a forum for ALL Cowboys fans.

But don't expect everyone to love every post.

You gotta have thick skin.

OK...here's the numbers for Jaylon. (I'll do LVE as well)

I wanted to be sure I didn't cherry pick so I took two games from the middle of November last year: Steelers and Vikings. I was careful to measure games when Smith was a full-time player.

Jaylon had 16 tackles in those two games. His YAPT...Yards Allowed Per Tackle:
7.3 yards allowed per tackle. (YAPT).

Jaylon had 0 tackles for loss in those two games.

As a reminder Parsons had 21 tackles
1.7 yards allowed per tackle (YAPT).

Parsons had 10 tackles for loss in the two games.

It's a small sample size, but that's what I have for now. While Jaylon was sometimes used in pass rush, it's clear Parsons does more of that, which helps tilt numbers in his favor.

Still, quite a contrast: 1.7 versus 7.3. High tackle totals are great...but are those tackles made with the speed, leverage and anticipation that suppresses yardage?

Our most recent/prior LBs are the only ones that can be used when making a comparison on where we are at under Coach Quinn, so this shows how far the Cowboys have come in talent and performance at that position. Its been a long time since I've seen this type of play at the Cowboy LB position...........

Joe, you were bashing the Parsons pick before it even happened. You were bashing him back in pee-wee leagues. Keep some perspective here.

I agree with enjoying the ride and watching an amazing athlete become a game changing NFL LB has been fun.

How much crow do you need me to eat before you let me on the Parsons bandwagon? Like it or not I'm on board.

I get hammered for a good number of my posts, called everything from "newbie to football" to moron to idiot. I think some only read the title and go off the rails, lol. Most of us appreciate good posts.

Nonsense, do not let a small minority of posters sway your posting. It is best to ignore them and just keep doing what you are doing. You are part of a larger group that is not ill mannered and rude,
