Early Nineties Cowboys & Micah Parsons

    • He could play any position from Nickel CB to LB.
  • Ken Norton Jr: The best Cowboys LB (non 3-4 OLB) since 93 until Parsons arrived.
  • Larry Allen: Only Super Bowl was 95 but un-disputed most dominant OG ever.
  • Daryl Johnston: His picture is probably in the dictionary next to the word Fullback.
  • They had backups that were better than most Cowboys starters from the past 2 decades.
    • Leon Lett: Aaron Donald type quickness on a 6-6 300+ frame.
    • Chad Hennings: Reported to have benched 600 pounds. Brick wall vs the run.
    • Jimmie Jones: Would be a starter on this year's team.
    • Jim Jeffcoat: A backup in 92 & 93. Has 102.5 career sacks.

Both of our 90's lines don't get enough credit for being one of the best ever.

At least NFL Films finally gave the O-Line credit when it made that awesome doc: "Great Wall of Dallas"

The D-Line AND the Defense won't ever get it though because there wasn't big enough stars. Everyone has tried to copy that D-Line rotation we had going, including this year's team!

And to those arguing what broke it all up, as Aikman says, we just didn't replace the talent we lost.

I think people get it wrong. Barry Switzer proved like Jerry said, he could win a SB with any 500 coaches. What we lost most in Jimmy was the talent man. There was no system in place as a GM or Scout to replace his shrewd trading, player evaluating and recent college recruiting experience. B-A-D drafts. Stupid trades. And the salary cap took care of the rest. With exception of 1-2, most of those guys above were kept, but at the expense of EVERYONE, and I mean EVERYONE else.

many think the mean dudes play defense....that is not true....you got some "killers" on O line....you know its what i was looking forward too with Collins....the guy just buried defenders....actually connor

williams was no slouch in college either....but again today he got 2 penalties and 1 stopped a drive....the other was a bad call by ref but still....Williams needs to get stronger so he does not have to hold.

Erik Williams was a pure beast and opposing defenders knew it....i remember one playoff game where Williams shut down Reggie white like he was a back up...but back then also it was legal to cut down

players...go low at knees....Erik Williams had no problem using that...it did cause many to get ticked at him...he did not care...you dont like it change the rules!!!...which NFL eventually did

Jimmy's ability to identify and develop talent is so underrated. Especially on defense.

Cowboys would have added additional pro bowlers to that dominant 90's team like Jason Taylor, Patrick Surtain, Zach Thomas, Sam Madison and yes, Randy Moss, if Jimmy was not forced out.

But the lack of credit he still does not receive on developing innovative and winning systems borders on criminal.

The depth on DL is one thing but devising a NASCAR rotation package is another thing entirely.

And converting LBs to DE (Tony Tolbert), DEs to DT (Jimmie Jones), CB to FS (Brock Marion) and LBs to SS (Darren Woodson) because be placed an emphasis on speed, speed and more speed.

But being fast was not enough, the speed was simply a tool, the goal was getting the ball. Gang tackling, stripping, interceptions, blocked punts, blocked passes, hitting with violence were all Jimmy Johnson must haves.

And he created the mentality that every player MUST be a playmaker.

Darren Woodson- He played slot cb regularly and did it well. Imagine a SS in today's game with that capability. He also played the run great and could cover like a FS. Great player that needs to be in the HOF.

The Dynasty of the 90's only lasted 4 years. The Cowboys original Dynasty lasted 20 years.

This Dallas Cowboys era earned the title "America's Team".

Tolbert was probably our best DLineman for a long time and nobody really talks about him.

Parsons has pass rush ability of Haley mixed with LB play of Norton. Now he's only a rookie but if he keeps this up he'll be better than anyone we've seen in Dallas in a long time.

Wish Jimmy loved Dallas instead of Florida and Jerry was like Kraft and both of them worked for 20 years together. What a run we would have had?
