PFF Grades

PFF tends to do a pretty good job for what they are. It's essentially a yes or no type of quick grading system that allows the grader to not need a ton of direct knowledge. Far from perfect, but they tend to be in the ballpark. Obviously with the rate in which they grade plays they are not breaking down every players responsibility on each play so there is certainly a margin of error.

Good description. The way I look at PFF is that it is not nearly as good as a professional coach that understands the nuances of each play, but, it is still a lot better than fans sitting on their couches basing their opinions on splash plays or what their gut is telling them.

Good observation. I've viewed him as the weak link on the oline, but he has certainly improved from early in the year. He is a player to watch moving forward.

I know I'll get stuff thrown at me for this, MM has a history of making good O-line out of projects. I know some here will not ever give him credit but look at what he has done with some of the weak links we had...Steele, Biadass, McGovern, even Williams is getting better (the penalties though)

Agreed.

How a fan can watch the game one time and judge a position that isn't reliant on instant stats like QB, RB or WR and removing said "splash plays" or "anti-splash plays" is beyond me.

We had all those low ranking defenders but held them to 3 points. I'll take it!

I heard Bob Sturm talk about it. He mentioned that Packers rarely if ever had to use first round picks on linemen because they were getting great value by developing guys all throughout the draft. We are already seeing it with Steele as a undrafted guy.

Little surprised at the grade on Steele, thought he played a lot better this week so I guess I'd hate to see what last week's score was. Those grades for our defense really tell the tale of that game. Impressive turnaround from last week.
theres a reason Collins is back at RT , as good as Steele was playing hes, not collins..hes solid but not great..

the issue is him and Williams next to each other...lol

I don't quite understand the scoring with the PFF grades. I thought Steele played pretty well Sunday...but then again, what the heck do I know. o_O
I don't understand how they score either, but I did manage to find a picture on their website of one of their analysts going through some of the algorithms.

Yeah, but even if they don't know more than us, at least it's somebody who looks specifically at one individual for every play, which is something I certainly don't do, and evaluating it according to a consistent methodology. It's not great, and I think there are serious weighting issues, and it involves a lot of guess-work on assignments, particularly on D, but it's better than nothing and I appreciate seeing it.
Hey, go nuts.

I have trouble figuring out the oline because you only see the bad beats
But the fact I didn’t notice him getting blown out was an improvement
Just from what I could see he looked solid for a still developing player, playing for the second game at a new position
