I don't quite understand the scoring with the PFF grades. I thought Steele played pretty well Sunday...but then again, what the heck do I know. o_O

Steele got considerable help from tight ends, backs.

Good description. The way I look at PFF is that it is not nearly as good as a professional coach that understands the nuances of each play, but, it is still a lot better than fans sitting on their couches basing their opinions on splash plays or what their gut is telling them.

PFF is using fans. Not on their couches, but at their keyboards. Think about the resources they would need to grade every player in the NFL by Tuesday. Now, think about those resources 10-15 years ago before they signed endorsement deals and raised the price of their subscription by whoever knows how much. This was back when all their advanced stats cost $30/year. I paid for a couple of years, and then 1 stat basically had me cancel my subscription. PRP (Pass Rushing Productivity) is easily one of the worst statistics I've ever seen. If you're going to tell me a QB Hurry is worth 1/2 of a sack, I'm going to laugh at you.

I learned a long time ago that the only reliable data they have are snap counts.

So Z. Martin didn’t have a top 10 rating?

Yeah he seemed to be steam rolling guys every play, and even the announcers noted it a couple times on key plays. Might have been one play I remember he had less-than-Martin type success.

PFF tends to do a pretty good job for what they are. It's essentially a yes or no type of quick grading system that allows the grader to not need a ton of direct knowledge. Far from perfect, but they tend to be in the ballpark. Obviously with the rate in which they grade plays they are not breaking down every players responsibility on each play so there is certainly a margin of error.

PFF gives a better snap shot shot of how a player did in a game than anything else. They grade every player on every play and they use multiple layers of graders. The last line of quality assurance are former pro scouts and coaches. So, its not a bunch of chat room jocks like us. Is every play graded perfectly? Of course not. But over the course of an entire game, the player grade is pretty dam accurate. Its certainly more accurate than a box score or a fans opinion.

It should also be noted that they grade some positions more effectively than others. My one issue is that they do not weight plays. A Zeke 15 yard run in garbage time counts the same as a 15 yard run when the outcome of the game is still in question. Diggs can have a game winning pick 6, but still score poorly. Their grading system doesn't reflect great plays. It is more a measure of consistency. Thats a great way to grade an OL or DL .......... not a great way to measure the performance of a QB or RB. Yet, at seasons end, their all-pro team looks a lot like the AP all-pro team. So how inacurate can it be?

To say he's a 'weak link' would be an understatement. He needs to be gone pronto...just trade for someone else fer crissakes.

He's a safety but injuries have slowed him to the point he can't do that anymore. He can't play LB either apparently. This experiment is failing.

Former pro scouts and coaches do the grading. The grades are not a "crap shoot". The issue is that you have no idea what your talking about.
A couple of failed scouts and coaches providing quality control over schmoes who are grading hundreds of plays a game is hardly fail proof. The grades are subjective. And dozens of people are performing the grades. That's the simple reality. Sorry you got you all up in your feelings. You might need some of McCarthy's monkey butt cream.

So clueless....... If you want to spew your stupidity on here, go find another thread. Welcome to my ignore list with the other board morons.

I'm in the same camp with all of you about Keanu Neal. When we signed him this off-season, I thought it was a really solid addition. So far, he has been disappointing, to say the least.

Little surprised at the grade on Steele, thought he played a lot better this week so I guess I'd hate to see what last week's score was. Those grades for our defense really tell the tale of that game. Impressive turnaround from last week.

You shouldn't be surprised. Fans have severely overrated his performance simply because he surpassed low expectations.

I didn't realize how low his rating was the previous week, so it made more sense when someone pointed out it was in the 30's that week because he did seem to have a much better game vs ATL
