We took Jaylon Smith 2/34 and Chris Jones went 2/37 to the Chiefs.

Imagine a draft of

1) Ezekiel Elliot RB
2) Chris Jones DT
3) Malik Collins DT
4a) Anyone but Charles Tapper
4b) Dak Prescott

Zeke, Jones, Dak would have been an amazing draft. I guess Jones wasn’t the kind of disruptive, penetrating DT Marinelli was looking for.
The funny thing is every team in the NFL could have too.

It gets worse.

Myles Jack
Michael Thomas
Xavien Howard
Jarran Reed

You quite simply don't waste a high 2nd round pick on players w/ extreme injuries. It is beyond dumb.

Chris Jones was drafted for his physical skills despite lack of production in college. Essentially the Trysten Hill of his draft. It worked out for KC.

So does Brady go to the Jerry clown show and still win 7 Super Bowls with Dave Campo?
Does Chris Jones do anything on the DL with a bunch of JAGs around him?

He is not a consistent player now.

Yeah, I was screaming during our draft party for Dallas to take Chris Jones. I was livid when we picked Jaylon because of the severity of his injury and it being a high 2nd round pick. I followed Jones very closely while watching the SEC games and he was a beast. That being said, the Cowboys front office does a pretty dang good job in the draft in my opinion. I wasn't happy we took Parsons and look at the beast we ended up getting. The only 2 draft picks I have really questioned in the last 5 years or so was taking Taco over Watt and Jaylon over Jones. I was actually more upset at the time over the Jaylon over Jones pick because I wasn't totally sold on Watt and I thought Taco would fit our scheme better.
I didn't like the LVE pick that much but there also wasn't anyone that I was enamored with. I kind of wanted Calvin Ridley but it looks like that pick would have been worst than LVE since Ridley has stepped away from football for now. OLine was the value when LVE was on the board but I thought we already had enough invested in that area.

Im just saying the past 5 years look much better than 2000. The team was beyond pathetic at that point. Not even Tom Brady could save that mess.

He was, no lie, not on my radar at the time.

But I am a fan of taking SEC DT’s in the 2nd round every other year or so.

I'm a fan of taking any position SEC 2nd round every year!

The NFL Jr League. LOL

Marinelli preferred the lighter quick players at DT. He was always trying to recreate his Tampa defense. The game just passed him by, and as a result, he screwed up the middle of this DL for awhile looking for the wrong kind of players.

If Dan Quinn sticks around, he likes the big DTs. The defensive line will look a lot different next year.

Yea, I can't get too twisted up over a missed diamond in the rough. The Cowboys have had their share of draft success with those types of picks.

I do shake my head at some of those 2nd round selections over the years. That still stings.

Too many gambles plus terrible trades and trade ups. Jerry for a period must have thought he was outfoxing the rest of the league? Past 2 years have been dam good. If he played a part.. I'll give him credit, if he didn't.. even better!! lol That's the start we needed under a new HC. But in the past few decades there's definitely some foolish selections that still sting.

You can’t draft everyone. I would have drafted Ramsey over Zeke, then drafted Henry in the second round. The What ifs………. It still was an A draft because we paid him like a franchise quarterback.

Fixed that for you.

Ok, lets play the "what if" game.

If we didn't draft Smith and he didn't end up sucking, they would have filled the LB with some others and maybe we don't draft Parsons.

Because our LB play would have been good enough and we didnt needed Parsons.
We could have drafted an OT instead or a good CB or something we really needed.

I cant undertand how you can argue for drafting not good the past years just to justify a good draft pick.

Parsons is a great player but a bad pick. Just because we were so bad at drafting that we manuvered us into a position that we had to draft for need.
