Name a QB for a current winning team or playoff contending team that doesn't have a good roster or talented weapons around him.

I got Mac Jones in New England and that is about it. Not that those players are scrubs but that they have a cast that should not be competitive and yet they will probably win the AFC East.

Helps to be coached by Belichick

Not to take away from Belichick, because I do respect him a lot... but look at Next Gen Stats or one of those more in-depth breakdowns and you'll see his yardage and formations are all aligned to keep it simple and not take risks. Mac Jones could not have started in the same offense Dak was running week 1. They're just now allowing Jones to let loose as he gains their trust. We did the same thing for Dak his first year, Parcells/Payton did same for Quincy. And it's the reason why McVay got rid of Goff, he still had to hold his hand.

I'm going to post this from Bill Parcells. I think a lot on here respect Parcells. I think if you were to ask Parcells, he'd tell you he'd like Dak as his QB. Why? Because Dak seems to abide by these commandments for the most part. He's the cool hand that steers the ship when things go bad usually. He typically handles the personnel well. He's well aware of the clock. He is the battle tested leader Parcells talked about. He's entertaining and has a good time, but isn't the class clown. He keeps to the team with football matters as far as I can tell. Notice the way he uses his legs and hips to throw, which is a check on that commandment to use his legs to throw. He knows his job. I'd concede he should run more, but Dak knows his job cold as far as I can tell. He's the same person each game. He throws the ball away when needed. By and large, I think Parcells would enjoy coaching Dak if he was still coaching here.

As Parcells would tell you, if your QB usually abides by these commandments, he'll be fine, and I think we're in good hands with Dak for this reason.

Thanks for posting those. Saw it long ago and had forgotten. Good stuff.

I agree with this and it was smart.

Given the way the team has played recently, I thought it would be good to gauge the general feeling about Dak on the site now and then revisit it after the season is over.

As always, I do not provide easy-way-out options in my polls. If you are unable or unwilling to vote, that is fine, but the ones who do vote will speak for you.

To protect fans from harassment from both sides of the debate, this poll will be anonymous so no one will see how you vote.

Great poll. Its actually a football intelligence poll. I actually thought the percentage would be higher. But 35% of the fanbase that dont understand football sounds about right. Probably a little higher to be honest.

I voted yes because there are no better options now.
He’s certainly not in the league of a Staubach or an Aikman, but guys like that are rare.
In my mind he’s not worth $40 million a year, but then maybe I’m just an old fart who’s not used to today’s salary scale for quarterbacks.
I do appreciate that he’s out there right now without his top two wide receivers and a messed up offensive line. But I expect a quarterback to be able to do more than bounce balls in front of the receivers in overtime with a game on the line.
He is the starting quarterback on my fantasy team so the yards and numbers that he puts up are great for fantasy football. But in real football you have to deliver victories with a game on the line. He often falls short there like he did yesterday.
But I know things could be and have been a lot worse like the clown parade of quarterbacks we had from Aikman to Romo.

So a qualified yes from me.

You shouldnt admit that.

Its like getting the answer right and then admitting you just guessed. :muttley:

Dak needs to run a few times. That's what opens things up for the offense. This Dak that ain't running isn't to his advantage. As for the question, I'm on the fence. I need to see more from him.
He also needs some designed rollouts occasionally.

Most of the QBs you named and mentioned either has a great/elite head coaching, a talented roster, a good defense. or has great RBs/WRs/offensive weapons. The Eagles still have a record below .500 and the Niners 5-5, Wentz is best when he has a running game to help him out and has a losing record when he doesn't have a successful rushing attack behind him. This was proven in 2017 when the Eagles had a top five rushing attack and then Wentz went 5-6, when they no longer had a rushing attack. Now Wentz has Jonathan Taylor, who got 5 rushing TDs in the Colts last game.

So my question remains the same, name a QB for a current winning team or current playoff contending team that doesn't have elite head coaching, a good defense or a top 10 RBs or and at least one or more of the best WRs currently in the NFL.

Jackson and Jones have elite head coaching, which makes a difference. Jones has the best head coach in NFL history on his side. So don't act like they don't have help. The Ravens had the top ten offense in rushing yards as in October. And still managed to win a game without Jackson because of their coaching.

What do any of the other QBs do that sets them apart, meaning when have any of them actually won a game completely by themselves?
We're not going to get anywhere. We can go on and on when it comes to this.

I'm clearly not as high on Dak as you are. I'm not going to be able to convince you otherwise and you're not going to be able to convince me otherwise.

We can agree to disagree on this one.

If Diggs dies give the Cowboys a pick 6, the Cowboys don’t win against the Patriots either.

Dak Has been struggling since that game, because he doesn’t have perfect blocking and the offense netting yardage to the point Moore could basically call run or pass on any given play and the defense had no clue. Both Zeke and Pollard were averaging around over 5 YPC until then. That’s third and manageable all the time.

Dak isn't a Super Bowl caliber QB... We won't go anywhere until he's gone.

Look around the league right now and tell me how many quarterbacks are Super Bowl calibar? Now of those, how many are factually available? And now, what's a better option than Dak?

Take Prescott off the 2021 Cowboys from the start and they'd be 3-8 right now. Maybe worse.

Cooper Rush won with this offensive personnel without starting for four years. And he tossed 8 completions to Amari Cooper and close to 120 yards with the game winning TD as well.

I know it may be hard for Dak-stans to accept, but when you got 8 men in the box and man on the outside with these WRs and the OL dominating giving you time, any average QB can pick apart a defense, because it’s pretty much impossible for a DB to sustain coverage in man for that long.

Should have included if we're happy with his price tag for his performance.....;)
