Watching other teams run block today was depressing

- The Packers also had the benefit of getting out ahead and staying out front with a lead, so that makes it more convenient to try at the run game instead of being in a position where
they are chasing points from behind. They are not in a position where they have to abandon the run.

- What i think what happens with Kellen is if he has the lead or the game score is scoreless at the start, he will go to the run game. If the run game is getting stalled, and Dak is off his game, then
Kellen feels more pressed to get Dak untracked while occasionally run the ball. Problem is .. we rarely are getting splash runs, we are not getting enuff of the 5-6 yards before 3rd down,
and Kellen goes to the pass game to get untracked.

- Now the question I’d have is: why is that we are Not getting the 5-6 yard runs, ..and where are the big splash runs ? ..the 20+ yrd runs ?
Unlike the current Zeke of 2021, Pollard has that 20+ yrd in-line burst to get those type runs, he’s really my measuring gauge, not Elliott. (and this is before he hurt his knee)
- But if Pollard himself is having issues getting untracked and he’s getting stuff at line, or hit for losses in backfield on a frequent basis, that would lead me to
think the road grounders are not doing it upfront, and there’s some issues with the blocking scheme (per Philibin)

- In terms of how much/how many carries the RBs are getting in the run game – that goes to Kellen Moore.
In terms of how we are “designing’ the run-blocking scheme within the OL vs D-fronts, I believe that goes to OL coach Joe Philibin.

Big runs getting called back for holding....We are the most penalized O-line (panthers or us any given week), thats not gonna help any situation.

Man it made sad as I watched multiple teams open up gaping holes for their backs down after down. It also made me realize that our line is nowhere near as good as its reputation. Well let me qualify that.. Our line cannot execute Kellen Moore's run plays as good as its reputation. What I notice about other teams is that they tend to double team at the point of attack. The Packers did it to Aaron Donald a dozen times when they needed to run the ball. Same with the Bucs when they were closing out the game against the Colts.. And the Broncos against the Chargers.. Admittedly I didn't study it as intently as I do our schemes, but I saw precious little of the slide step reach blocking we feature in our running attack. Maybe Moore thinks our guys are more athletic than they are.. but we repeatedly allow penetration when we run this scheme. Yes we can gash teams with sorry *** fronts with it but against even decent fronts our linemen get knocked into the backfield more often than not. Against good fronts we have no chance whatsoever to run the ball. I also noticed that teams stayed committed to the run even when it wasn't yielding big yards. Dillon and Jones were averaging just over 3 ypc against the Rams but they kept hammering at it all game long. They never surrendered the way we do. And they have Aaron Freaking Rodgers at QB.. Oh and that guy with the Bucs is an okay QB too.. yet they also kept pounding the run even when it was getting them under 4 ypc until late in the game. Yes WE have turned completely skittish about running the ball and shift into 5 wide empty backfield at the drop of a hat. I love Dak Prescott as much as anyone but it's absolutely brain dead that we keep asking him to do what even teams with Hall of Fame QBs don't ask of them.. win throwing it 75-80% of the time without even a hint of a rushing attack. What the hell is wrong with our offensive coordinator that he can't see this?
I was thinking the exact same thing while watching the games. Excellent stuff, Ron.

If we cannot learn how to run the ball correctly, all is for nought. C'mon, Jerr, get KMO some help. He shows signs of knowing what he's doing, but was promoted way too soon, and needs some instruction, and not from his horrific predecessor.

Offhand, I'd conclude that many of those holding calls are due to us having a poor running scheme. The OL is not being put in a good position to succeed.

umm pollard has 1 more 20+ then zeke and none over 40 where zeke has that 51yarder..your argument tis weak,..when pollards used straight up as rb hes not better then zeke..sure one legged zeke pollard has a slight advantage but not a healthy zeke..pollards biggest run was off gadget play with zeke as a used to distract the defense..hes better 3rd down back or receiving back etc open space guy not fulltime every down back running normal run plays,..

Its two NFL teams i'd watch in terms of the run block scheme and designs in how they run the ball ..and that's Niners and the Browns.

- I love Shanahan's Niners run scheme as it's success does not seemed based off just one lone RB, and seems to involve
misdirection and wall blocking that influence D- fronts into mis-guessing run gaps and over-pursuing out of position whereas it tends to open up cut-back running lanes.

- That’s a feasting table for one cut style RBs with idea vision and adept at cutting back against the grain.
When I heard we were getting away from the Columbo man-power scheme and reverting to more zone blocking scheme I had hoped it would result in more
cut back lanes as what Shanahan scheme employs.OLinemen that have to account and be responsible for a certain area regardless of how defenders are lined up before snap of the ball.

- Another matter I'm trying to clue in on is how our TEs are blocking. Frankly I don't consider us to be a good TE blocking team.
Never been fond of Jarwin in this sense an area and it's not a suitable element for Schultz either. He can be a woeful open field blocker at times.
McKeon has a rep for being more blocker than receiver, but i dunno if he has found his feel for it at NFL level since his high ankle sprain injury.

- Of course the Browns are the Bill Callahan school of OL/run scheme blocking and everyone that follows him knows he can teach OL and run scheme.

Come on dude.. don't join in the hate fest with these other morons.. The throw was behind.. but it also hit Noah Brown in the arm. It's a catch that NFL receivers are expected to make 99 out of 100 times. They're not paid to only catch perfect passes.
So noah is paid to make a good catch but dak isn't paid to make a very easy throw?
I'm not joining the others....but I am also going to keep it real. I'm not going to protect dak more than noah.
You and me are usually right on....I don't get why you excuse dak....high dollar man...but roast noah #5wr. Something ain't right there.

Another thing I noticed.....not our running game....but passing.....team run very creative routes. Rub/picks. Use refs for cover. Wide wheels. Lotta screens with patient timing.

I'm not sure Moore is the wunderkind he's made out to be. He's got some serious talent...and depends on that more than clever conniving schemes.
I my humble layman opinion.

What about the Bucs? They trailed by 10 at the half and never took the lead until there was a minute left in the 3rd. Yet they never moved off the running game.. Their first drive of the 2nd half went 3 runs, 3 passes, touchdown.. Now they were down only 3.. Their next drive? 3 runs in a row, 4 passes in a row, one being a sack, then a DPI, another run.. touchdown.. On the first drive they ran for 4 yards on first down and on the second drive they ran for 5. Point being.. at no time did they panic and go all pass happy just because they were behind ..even when it was two scores.. You just don't have to do what we do just because you fall behind. Good teams don't.. Apparently we are not a good team.

The biggest problem is blocking. Aside from the Charger game and Zeke's big day against the Panthers all our longer runs have come on gadget plays.. Either wildcat or jet sweeps. You can't build a running game around that. We need the coaches to figure out how to create a good old fashioned smash mouth consistent running attack. If they will all be fired.. because without it this team is going nowhere. And Jerry is almost 80.. that's too old to be "patient."

Your opinion of Pollard is becoming the minority.

He is a Christian McCaffrey style of player.

Zeke is just a dud right now that is nothing but a glorified fullback. Get him healthy and let Pollard do his thing.

Pollard has the most rushing yards of any non starting RB this season and his Yards after contact is some of the highest.

He can do it all. Zeke is just going through the motions and can’t touch Pollard right now.

Both.. It was a bad throw.. but you said "Dak threw it in the dirt." That's the part I disagreed with you on because that's the kind of mindless narrative building haters engage in. It was behind.. He had to reach back for it.. It would have been a good catch, but let's not act like we've never seen guys catch the ball that they had to reach back for. Dak was on the move and didn't set his feet and it resulted in a throw that he didn't get out in front or on target. That's not "protecting" anybody or excusing anybody. I know it was a tough ball to catch.. But if it's my job to catch the ball then I catch the ball.

Frankly if my QB throws me this ball in a critical situation there is no way I whiff on it. But this was NOT in the dirt and it was NOT some impossible to catch ball.

Frankly I wish Dak would have just tucked it and run for the damn first down. At this point I trust his surgically repaired leg more than I trust Noah Brown.. who had two drops on two targets against KC and if I'm not mistaken got another one Thursday.

Okay I admit....I exaggerated there...but you seem a bit sensitive about that way I described a clearly inaccurate pass.
Even my wife agrees with you about running it and it has nothing to do with your noah criticism. More dak bad decisions.

I still don't get why you a harder on #5 wr than superstar elite qb. Ronnie...dude....ain't right man.

What part of "it was a bad throw" did you not read? I am not sensitive at all. If you're reading any emotion into anything I write it should be anger and sadness. I want my team to win.. Unlike some I don't really care how they do it or who gets the credit. Running, passing, defense, special teams, who gives a rat's arse. Just win.. That's all I care about.. We're not winning, I am offering my analysis of why .. People can feel free to disagree.. however like I said, piling on with false narratives is frankly unwelcome. You want to say Dak threw the ball behind? Fine.. he did.. You want to say Dak threw the ball in the dirt? I will challenge that assertion because it's false and some other idiot with an agenda or just someone who didn't watch the game will glom onto it and it will take on a life of its own.

- But are the Bucs running successfully like this all the time ?
- Are they operating as such on a regular basis ? Not just one lone successful game ?

- So with the Cowboys, is it the OL personnel issue ?
- Is it a run scheme design the issue ?
- is it that Kellen is not making this team a run first- run often team ?
- Or is it a RB personnel issue with a lack of splash runs ?
Pollard is averaging 4.2,.. while Zeke is averaging 3.4 yrds per carry
I believe we have not had a RB reach 70 yards in rushing in now how many games ?

Been asking the same question.. How is Kellen Moore getting a pass..he is the coach and play caller for the offense...Really thought he has been out coached as OC the last few games....

I can't speak for how the Bucs operate every week.. But I do know that in the KC game the Cowboys ran for at least 4 yards on first down 5 times and at least 8 yards on first down 3 times and not once did they follow it up with another run. NOT ONCE!!! Including following a 31 yarder. To me that says "we don't care how many yards we get running the ball on first down, we're throwing it on the next play." I have said for at least two years that the lack of long runs is a function of poor downfield blocking by our receivers and tight ends. They're not even average at it. We have not had a back hit 70 yards mainly because we have refused to give either of them the ball more than 10 or 11 times. In the last 6 games we have not had a back get more than 17 carries. Both backs have been under 4 ypc in 4 of their last 5 games.. To me that is screaming blocking.. It would be different if one guy was lighting it up.. but when both backs, whom most would agree are quality runners are unable to get going it's time to look at blocking scheme and execution..

Spending that much effort correcting wording...must be exhausting.
From here....you made a bigger point to blame noah. You said wrs get paid to make the catch but you didn't say the same of dak.

What should have been a routine easy throw versus not an easy catch. Dak has more blame in this....clearly. I don't see it from you. Kinda like you objected to my my 'inaccurate ' description of the pass....I object to your inaccurate dak responsibility. Elite high dollar super star qb.

So my saying it was a bad throw is not enough for you and I am just supposed to accept your made up narrative about the throw. It was behind.. He still got both hands in position to catch it and he didn't. Yes Dak needs to be better.. however let us also not act like Brown hasn't dropped at least 5 passes over the past 4 games that hit him in the bread basket. I suppose those are on Dak too? Maybe Dak's mistake was trusting him to make a play in that situation in the first place. He should have run for it.

As for exhausting? I type on the computer for a living.. It literally takes me less than 2-3 minutes to write most of my posts. Not much effort involved.
