Our defense needs a game wrecker inside

Been asking for one for about 10 years now - that and a FS - those positions seem to be the unicorns of the D.

And yes both positions are probably the 2 hardest to get in football.
Yes, not many elite at either position, if you have 1, huge advantage. I wonder if they start kicking DLaw inside when Gregory returns.

Jerruh has had plenty of opportunities to bring such a player in. They basically refuse to do so. They chose the gimp over a few of them.
They have been trying on day 2, but none of them have panned out thus far. That could change, but don't think any will ever become elite at the position.

We saw a few weeks ago how 1 interior defensive player can dominate and literally wreck a game with Chris Jones. When you look at all the NFC projected projected top playoff teams, they all have such a player:

GB-Kenny Clark
TB-Vita Vea
ARZ-Watt*
LAR-Donald

All we have is a bunch of mid level upside prospects in Gallimore, Osa and Hill. None of them project to become elite, game wrecker types.

Finding such a player isn't easy as they don't grow on trees, but in my opinion, is the missing piece to our defense.
Like I said in the Joseph draft pick thread:

"I've been saying since before the draft that the Cowboys should have gone after monster DT Christian Barmore in the draft. When Barmore fell into the 2nd round, it would not have cost the Cowboys much to move up 6 spots from #44 up to #38 to draft Barmore where the Patriots moved up to get. This season, Christian Barmore has been a total beast for the Patriots while playing inside, clogging up the run inside while putting constant pressure on opposing QBs. 6'5", 330 lbs, strong, quick and aggressive, Christian Barmore has been a great pickup for the Patriots and one of the NFL's best interior D-linemen. Imagine where our Defense would be if Barmore was playing for the Cowboys? Once again, Jerry and his group fail badly at addressing our inner Dline and not getting a monster DT when he was available early in the draft. Idiots."

Seriously, this team suffers because of the dumb mistakes this front office makes while refusing to seriously address our inner Dline in the draft when opportunities arrive to be able to get a monster DT early in the draft.

Most teams do
One of the hardest positions to draft

Fletcher Cox was right there and we drafted that bum Morris Claiborne. Still hurts.
Yep
You can’t miss that high in a draft
Missing on any first round pick is bad but a really high pick is actually not easy to do
Yet we managed to do it
It’s one thing if a guy you passed up turns out to be a all pro and your pick just ends up being a good starter for 10 years
But Mo doesn’t fit that description

I would say an interior DL is still a big need, along with Free Safety, two down run LB and maybe another starting corner. Now if you find a stud in the middle, coverage becomes much easier.
I would not be shocked if the Cowboys draft another middle linebacker in the first round. Parsons is to good of a pass rusher to leave at middle linebacker. Plus we go fully to a 3/4 and move on from Tank.

I dont know if he's a every down DT but on passing downs I would certainly move him inside.

And we also need a Larry Allen type to keep those types of monsters off our quarterback.

I still believe OSA can be that guy. The dude was lights out for the first what, 7 weeks, and just recently hit a rookie wall. It’s extremely rare for rookie DTs to come in and make an impact but OSA did just that, even more productive than Barmore early on. I do still want a big time talent at DT if there is one available, but I’m not ready to say Osa is NOT that guy yet.

I think if they continue to use Parsons as an edge rusher, makes sense to kick DLaw inside to have all 3 rush the passer.

I think they rather use Parsons as a chess piece type player and he will still be a 2 down mike linebacker and be apart of their rush package in obvious passing situations. Believe the need at linebacker is more of a two down run player who is better then LVE and or Neal. These players are easier to find and you don't have to spend a high pick to get one. Hitchens type player.

My biggest worry with Barmore coming out was that he needed development to become a better run defender, which is still a big weakness for our defense. Osa is the opposite, strong run player, but needs work as a pass rusher.

I just think drafting in the 20s you take the best player available. I think an off ball linebacker is the least important position, so the better play in the 20s will probably be a Nick Bolton type who would fit well on this defense. I would take the 2nd best off ball linebacker over the 4th/5th defensive tackle.
