With so much mediocrity this season we're definitely contenders. My only concern are in the trenches on both sides.

It’s ok to lose some close games to other contenders, but get blown out by crap teams and play undisciplined, penalty ridden football while doing it shows that they aren’t ready for prime time

They are just getting it out of their system pre playoffs

I thought this team was different until Dak’s calf and Tyron’s ankle, whom Pollard actually did injure….Since these two injuries this team hasn’t looked the same offensively anyway.

Hopefully they wash away November and start anew this week.

The game vs. New Orleans gives this team a stiff test, although, Vegas still has us favored by four points. Let's see if it stays that way.

What happens in the games to come should largely depend upon some of our walking wounded returning to duty. To be continued. ;)

I think we're a contender until it's proven otherwise. There's no need to make premature assumptions, until more evidence is available.

It’s still too early to know. Six games left. Whether or not this team can overcome their current adversity will determine if they’re a contender or a pretender. No guts- no glory.
Actually I think it won't matter much, what we do for the rest of the season. Win 'em all and they still won't know where they stand.

Nah, if they make the play offs only the first game there will show what they are made of. Plus the Arizona game as some sort of indicator. But all other games are simply must wins if they want to be a part of the last round as legit contender and not just cannon fodder.

Won't know till the season is over.

:hammer:

if you’re going to say you were wrong to judge them as a pending contender based on their first 9 games, then it’s just as wrong to judge them as a pending failure after their last 4 games.

Teams can be up and down and still have success.

I will NEVER believe this team is a contender until they actually do something when it matters. It doesn't matter if they finish a season 17-0. They need to do something in the playoffs.

Therefore, I voted "I never believed they could contend this year". I picked them to go 8-9 or 9-8 before the season.

Every time you think they start to look good they quickly remind us they are nothing but fools gold.

This team is a legit contender in the NFC.

When they play their brand of football— they can beat anybody. When they are off their game— they can lose to anybody.

Obviously— these next 6 games define their season. They are still scuffling and dealing with a lot of issues— and I don’t see them going 6-0 or securing the top seed.

This is a 3 or 4 seed that has a puncher’s chance to upset anyone in the playoffs if they play to their potential.

As a fellow Homer, I have only 3 choices: vote Super Bowl winner or legit contender, decline to vote because predicting before an outcome is asinine unless you go with the first choice, ignore this thread and bury my head.

I also think that the only votes that count are those that voted legit contenders, because all others are from loser hater fans.

November was the Jaylon Smith calendar curse... his pic was the one for last month and we played up to his standards... new month new player, and we're good now, lol...

These Cowboys are who I thought they could be. Leading the worst division in the NFC. We’d be fighting for a WC in any other division. My feelings haven’t changed much as I never bought into all of the hype .

We have a strong or top 10 offense when everyone is healthy and an average to below average defense. My only surprise was our turnover differential early in the season . I believe that propelled to our early success and made us look more like a contender that what we truly are.

None of the boxes fit my criteria. Perhaps we need to better define contender . I thought all along we would be a playoff contender but not a top tier Super Bowl contender. But if our defense can create turnovers and we get healthy, we could be a tougher out in playoffs .

This is probably the most accurate response as until the results come in it’s an unknown but the OP was asking where we stand now. At least that’s how I interpreted it.

Contender for a championship. No one should care about simply contending for the playoffs. Three quarters of the league does that.

Contender means contender for the title imo. Otherwise the question wouldn't make sense. The thing with the NFL is, you just have one thing to go for. No one talks about division championships or winning the Conference after a couple of years.

The thing with the NFL (or any american pro sports for that matter), there is no relegation to a lower league to avoid, no UEFA league places in the standings to achieve and no league cup to play. So there are 31 losers every year. But since there are so many teams waiting longer for an SB win than the Cowboys and they had alot of winning seasons since 96 you couldn't even call them "losers".

But as far as NFL standards go, for the quarter of a century, they unfortunately are. The title isn't even close. But the wins guarantee fans keep tuning in. Like me. So far the season has been fun. :)

After a hot start and now a month of adversity, the temperature of the board must be taken with the final 6 game stretch to go.

Who are these Cowboys?
hopefully we will get over the slump. injuries, lack of continuity, brain freeze, whatever...I remember Jimmy Johnson used to say it take 4-5 weeks to get over a slump once you get into tit....I think we started against Denver (offense, defense, special teams, Dak, Cooper, etc.)....and had one over all good game....against KC, offense never showed up, against Raider, defense didn't show up....so hopefully this week, they win one, perhaps an ugly one and get over the slump....
