I know its been quite some time since the Boys had some impressive interception totals. Right now they are on a pace to get 27 interceptions as a team.

Funny thing is 27 interceptions isn't close to the 81 team. I believe everyone knows about Everson Walls 11 interceptions in 1981, but in that same season Dennis Thurman had 9 interceptions and Michael Downs had 7 interceptions. 27 interceptions between three DB's?!?! The team had a total of 37 interceptions that year. Just incredible. The height of the Thurman Thieves era.

Sad part is San Fran broke our hearts in the NFC Championship Game that year.

Two playoff losses still bother me to this day, and that was one of them. So close. So many what ifs. If Doug Donley just catches that 3rd down pass there would have been no drive. Game would have been over.

But yeah, 37 interceptions is ridiculous. I remember Thurman and Downs. Was Ron Fellows there yet? Just my opinion, but they did a lot of feasting because Martin, White, and Jones were breathing down quarterback's necks on a regular basis. But hey, that might be a primary reason QBs throw picks to begin with.

LOL....I certainly hope not. Jimmy G aint no Joe Montana anyways.

I think good ol' Joe turned the ball over 4 or 5 times in that championship game. That final pick he threw should have been the last pass he threw in that game. But our WR Donley bailed him out.

Fellows was a rookie and only played Special teams in 81. Charlie Waters was still there and had 3 interceptions himself, which in recent years, would have led the team.

Good point about the 1981 pass rush. Makes me think if Lawrence, Gregory, and Parsons are on the field together, the pass rush will be definitely a problem for turnover prone NFC East QB's and there could be possibly be an uptick in INTs.

Ironically, nobody is going to remember that Montana threw 3 INT's in that game....two to rookie Everson Walls.

But here is something even more insane.....

Under today's draft system all three of those guys, Walls, Downs and Thurman, would have been rookie free agents.

Walls and Downs were rookie free agents outright. Thurman was an 11th round draft choice in 1978.

The fourth member of that secondary was Charlie Waters who had 3 INT's. It was his last season.

I assume the reason why Walls, Downs, and Thurman were undrafted/11th round pick was because they were pretty slow. Personally I thought Downs was the slowest safety in the league. With Charlie Waters as the 4th member and at the very end of his career, they may have been the slowest secondary in the league.

More than likely. Pressure has that effect on QBs. Basham crashing through the middle probably had a lot to do with that last pick. He had to get the ball out. The tipped pick was again, pressure, a Cowboy actually got to the QBs arm. The Diggs pick, LOL he just baited him knowing he had help over the top. He purposely gave the WR some space and Hill took the bait. But yeah, with 4 games left in the NFC East and Gregory coming back, there could be an uptick in picks. At least I hope there is. I'm just hoping the D stays healthy.

What was the second one?

Damned 2007. That comes in second because I would not be confident that we would have beaten the Patriots. Cinci wasn't beating us in '81. I realize the same applies to the '94 loss. But we just won two super bowls in a row, followed by another in '95. That kind of blunts the wound.

LOL saw that the other day too.... like the intro with the Philly crowd

Drew Pearson definitely fired up that Philly crowd at the 2017 draft and apparently inspired the team because the Eagles went on to win the Super Bowl that season. I guess you could say it kind of backfired on us.

Thought it was funny how the Commish was the one who egged him on to do it. Conspiracy theorists, take it away....
