Weird comparison. Jaylon Smith is not an NFL player. Carson Wentz may never be his old self again but he is still a starting QB for at least half of the teams in the league. The value is much different

I also never understood why people thought the Colts were going to sit Wentz to save their draft pick. They were a playoff team last year with Philip Rivers...that team is constructed to compete now so they want to make the playoffs with Wentz.

yikes @ the raiders
To do that in back to back years. Its amazing they aren't as bad as they should be. If I'm being generous you have nothing to show for 5 1st round picks other than Josh Jacobs who's a running back. That's insane.

We cannot get anything for players like Jaylon Smith when his tenure with the Pokes is over but the Eagles find a way to get a number one pick for an injured and questioning his abilities QB who was essentially run out of Philadelphia.

Jerruh, please hire a real GM because you and Stephen are just not cutting it. Your efforts during the past 25 years has been abysmal.

Eagles On Track To Clinch First-Round Pick From Carson Wentz Trade - NFLTradeRumors.co

Colts have a good chance to be in the super bowl and Wentz is playing well. I am not sure the Eagles made out in that trade. Looks like they traded a good QB for a very late 1st round pick.

I see your point.

But they knew this would be an effort at a reclamation project.....and not instant returns.

They've won 6 of their last 8 with the only 2 losses being close ones to Tennesee and Tampa Bay.
And any way we slant it, 23 Tds, 5 ints and a 97 Passer rating is more than solid.
They lean on the run game, as they should. I like Pittman, but they have a bottom 5 WR/TE group in the league.

Is it great? Definitely not, as he (like every other QB this year) has had 2-3 bad games.
And when I watch their games, I don't come away overly impressed---even in his "good" games.
But I suspect they are fairly happy right now, barring injury. A late 1st rounder for a "possible" long term starting QB
If they thought the was a reclamation project then fair enough. Maybe they get a incomplete grade then lol. And at that point then yes they have to like what they've seen thus far and it can only go up. I personally thought they expected him to come right in and do what he's doing. With a TD ratio of 23 to 5 and a passer rating of a 97? That seems rather low for that type of production. Probably all the dinking to the running backs.

I can't say they have bottom 5 because I think Pittman is legit. I think he's already good now but I think his ceiling is that of a great player. But its not like Wentz has ever been a guy who likes to throw to receivers. If so, they would've went out and get a guy like Odell Beckham. Wentz is a throw it to the backs and tight ends type of guy.

I say they made out because last year he was the worst starting QB in the NFL. So to have a guy that was playing that badly get traded for a late 1st rounder? Its the best you can hope for. Its nothing like the compensation they traded to get him but its better than I would've given up for him.

I remember checking out the Browns draft picks back when we got Weeden. A bunch of top picks + some multiple #1s.
Yeah they have far too many...it got to the point where I was asking myself how the hell were they getting so many 1st rounders what were they trading lol?

yeh, .. indy pick will be more at the bottom of 1st rd, cuz they are likely playoff bound, but it doesn't mean Philly cannot and won't
pile at least couple of those No.1 picks and perhaps a 2nd rd to move up to the 1st ..or 2nd overall pick.

I think Roseman made the right move. Wentz bottomed out in 2020, and even if he still had enough talent to be a good pro QB, he needed a fresh start out of a toxic situation. Roseman got the best possible return for a guy who either wasn't going to play for him or was going to continue playing like hot garbage.

He also got an excellent return getting an extra 1st to move down 6 spots and get a Bama WR nearly as good as the guy he traded out of earlier. So IMO, Howie pulled all the right trade levers. You can't fault his GM'ing there.

The question now is can he turn all that draft ammo into a franchise QB. With 3 firsts, even in the late teens or 20s, he can go get a guy he wants this year, but the guys available all look kind of questionable.

I think his biggest mistake was not drafting Justin Fields at 10 this year. Early returns on Fields have been iffy, but he was an on-paper better prospect than any of the 2022 guys and the trade up for him was far cheaper. I would much rather spend a 1+3 for Fields than say a 1+1+2 for Sam Howell.

Who is worth trading that much to trade up in this year’s draft? Very weak QB draft.

Cost controlled QBs are always going to go high IMO. Bad teams like Detroit or Houston may not have much choice but to sign or draft a QB rather than trot Jared Goff or Davis Mills out there again, and some teams like Washington, Denver or Pittsburgh have the defense to win but are in a dumpster fire QB situation. Those guys will roll the dice on a Malik Willis or Sam Howell etc because not rolling them means agreeing to throw away another season.

Exactly who I think about and man is it dreadful...some years a top 3 pick...some years a 1st overall pick and still screw up their 1st rounds lol..

3 Joe Thomas OT Wisconsin [26]
22 Brady Quinn QB Notre Dame [27]

3 Trent Richardson RB Alabama
22 Brandon Weeden QB Oklahoma State

8 Justin Gilbert CB Oklahoma State
22 Johnny Manziel QB Texas A&M

12 Danny Shelton DT Washington
19 Cameron Erving C Florida State

1 Myles Garrett * DE Texas A&M
25 Jabrill Peppers S Michigan
29 David Njoku TE Miami

1 Baker Mayfield * QB Oklahoma
4 Denzel Ward CB Ohio State

It gets fun when you get to the Raiders....I mean JUST A YEAR AGO the draft was a fail lol. Normally we wait 3 or 4 years to be able to do it.....

4 Clelin Ferrell DE Clemson
24 Josh Jacobs RB Alabama
27 Johnathan Abram S Mississippi State

12 Henry Ruggs WR Alabama
19 Damon Arnette CB Ohio State
It's still completely shocking that they took CB Denzel Ward over Bradley Chubb. Very dumb choice. Chubb is now a top 5 pass rushing OLB in DEN's 3-4.

Can you imagine Chubb and Garrett coming off the ends? That's how you get to the super bowl!!!

Man I forget about him even being in the league I didn't realize he was hurt lol. A big key piece to be missing from Denver.

Eagles On Track To Clinch First-Round Pick From Carson Wentz Trade - NFLTradeRumors.co
ROFL.
This is utter and complete nonsense.

No one has to post every thought that occurs to them.
This is just DUMB.
The Eagles front office is a trash bin. A complete and utter failure on every level.
They cut the return of Wentz by drafting Hurtz after overpaying Wentz based off a single elite 13 game stretch.
To do so they ate 33.8M dollars in cap hit.

Further they gave Dallas a pick last year to move up and select a 160 pound WR instead of taking Micah Parsons or RaShawn Slater.

The Colts meanwhile have won 6 of 8 games to sit in playoff position and drive that draft pick value down considerably.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
i.e. .. Bears apparently saw beauty when they traded up to get Mitch Tribusky.- opting for him over Deshaun Watson and Pat Mahomes.

To add, every year is called a weak QB draft. Sometimes it's true, sometimes it's not.

Wentz was injured all the time but has a skillset that is desired in the NFL. Jaylon Smith provided nothing on a LB level and they obviously tried to trade him, but nobody wanted him. Not sure how you can blame our GM for that. Maybe blame him for the Extension :).
