He’ll definitely win DROY. We use numbers to evaluate players. The most convenient numbers require fitting them into a specific role. As a pure pass rusher, Parsons’ numbers are very comparable to Miller’s. But Parsons is a MLB in a 4-3, not a OLB in a 3-4. So they’re not really comparable positions. The fact that Parsons’ pass rushing numbers look as good as a pure pass rusher’s is impressive in itself.

And that’s with Dallas stubbornly not letting him be a edge rusher primarily in a lot of games.

For the past 50 years a linebacker has been DROY in a year ending with a one.

1971 Isiah Robertson, Rams

1981 Lawrence Taylor, Giants

1991 MiKe Croel, Broncos

2001 Kendrell Bell, Steelers

2011 Vonn Miller, Broncos

2021 ?

why would they - did you not see him directly cause kearse interception carrying a man downfield - we can get pressure without him and still have him making plays which is why he should stay as a LB
Don’t understand why people want him pidgeon-holed at DE. First of all he’s 235, he’s going to get extremely worn down if he plays a full game of snaps at DE. Secondly, he’s an athletic freak with sideline to sideline range. Why on earth would we not use that?

Dude has 10 sacks, why are we acting like he’s not getting pass rush opportunities? If there’s one thing I’m happy with it’s how Quinn and the defensive coaches are using Micah. He’ll be infinitely more affective as a chess piece than lining up in the same two spots all game.

Not that I do not agree with your overall point; however, Parsons would not have gotten as many pass rushing opportunities if DLaw and Gregory had not been injured and unable to play.

I think what most fear is that now that DLaw and Gregory are back will Parsons get those same pass rushing attempts moving forward.

Yes, he will rush some and drop back some, they can now kick D-Law inside on plays (like they did last game) and bring all of them.

But how can you say that with any certainty? Remember they’ve been moving DLaw inside periodically for a few seasons now. They’ve been giving Micah reps at DE or in a DPR role ever since camp. We like to think here for some reason that only 2 pass rushers can be on the field at once.

I am very confident that Micah would have gotten and will get ample pass rush snaps. It’s not hard to find a way to get them all on the field. Also, DE’s rotate. Due to injury guys like Golston have had to play more than expected. These depth pass rusher snaps are now going to go to Micah as opposed to Golston or Basham (who’s been solid).

I know we are scarred by coaches misusing talent but nothing DQ has done suggests he’s one of those coaches. We need to draw a line between realistic Cowboys skepticism and paranoia. Until Quinn gives me a reason to doubt his ability to play guys correctly I won’t just assume he will. Look at what he’s done with a 4 Safety rotation. Absolutely brilliant stuff from him and he’s been our best coach this season.

Let’s let him prove otherwise before we assume he won’t put Micah in the best position to succeed.

One key issue I have is this, specifically in the Raiders game on Thanksgiving. Parsons was effective rushing outside all day against both tackles. But Quinn repeatedly wasted him rushing him inside where he was double teamed and neutralized. No more of that.

We are so bad a LB other than Parsons is why I feel certain. With DLaw getting hurt in the first game no one can say for certain otherwise IMO.
