I like Cooper a lot. But…he does seem have disappearing acts occasionally. He is a great route runner. Maybe the best in the league. But at $20 mil a season for a team that spends the most cap space on the WR position already than any other NFL team, I’m not sure if we can afford to keep Coop here next year.
I can absolutely see a scenario where Coop moves on, but I dont think its an ability to afford coop thing. Its a Coop or Gallup type of situation. Yes Gallup comes cheaper, but then you also have to factor in the cap hit of cutting/trading Cooper, which probably comes close to balancing the sides out, unless i'm just way off on what Gallup would command on the FA market.

I'm team Cooper just because I think he has a bigger overall impact on a defense than Gallup does. With Coop and Lamb on the field Coop is getting the attention. Lamb and Gallup, Lamb tend to see most of the attention from the defense.

This forum is going completely off the rails

All of a sudden Jared Goof and Taylor Heineke are spectacular QBs.

I mean who this season is doing more with less than those two? Dak is doing less with more. Brady has a stack team. Taylor Heineke actually beat the Bucs mind you.

We don't know what we don't know. I can see Gallup getting resigned. I can see the Cowboys finishing the season as Super Bowl Champs and every player wanting to return to claim another championship.

I like Gallup but I don't see him getting resigned. The salary cap does not support it.

I see the Cowboys getting a 3rd or 4th round compensatory pick for him and the Cowboys using that pick for his replacement. There are tons of good WR's in the draft every year.

We all know Gallup will most likely be gone after this season. He will be missed. Being Coop is on the tail end of his NFL career, I'd rather we keep Gallup. Coops on again off again injury bug isn't helping Dallas at all. Thoughts?

"All eyes will be on the Dallas Cowboys receiver group this offseason with key wideouts Michael Gallup and Cedrick Wilson among the team’s key free agents.

The Cowboys will have plenty of competition if the team wishes to re-sign Gallup. Bleacher Report’s Chris Rolling sees the Bears and Jaguars as two of the top contenders to land Gallup."

nah FT the dude make them pay big to have him.. then offer them coop for bit less :) we will see how good they view gallup when they have to give up draft compensation and bigger payday..

I believe the bigger his deal is and hes goes somewhere and starts we get bigger compensation anyway, correct?

I can see several teams who need another top receiver going after MG. Atlanta, Carolina, Vegas, etc.. etc..

Alvin Harper II.
Yeah I feel that way too. I like Gallup but Alvin is a great comparison. He is a #2 but will be paid like a #1. I don't think we should pay him. Our offense was #1 in the league without him. That should be the answer to the question about keeping him.

I still think its a possibility Cooper is cut. Not because of performance but I believe we use his cap space to re-sign gallup and another player.
Would ♡ to see that happen!

:hammer:

I like Gallup too. Just not at big free agent money. Especially when this team has enough cap issues already. There are better ways to spend a finite budget.

Lol, Dak was destroying the league in primarily 12 personnel earlier in the season before Jarwin got hurt and Gallup was on IR. But hey, you want to post rubbish to meet your absurd agenda then more power to you!
Idk his gripe, you need more than 1 wr for every team. Brady the goat is stacked at wr and the, Rodgers has Adams the best wr in the NFL and he wants and needs more help. It's a passing league.

They went and got Josh Allen more than 1 wr, Herbert has multiple. It's just how it is now.

There is great cap savings in releasing Cooper. If our Oline were top tier like it used to be I might say go for it. They are not, and Cooper has the ability to get open quick that Gallup does not possess. Gotta keep Cooper for the investment you put into Dak IMO. I could get one top tier Oline FA for what I would pay Gallup. I would choose Oline over him. That would help the areas of need that we need most help with. Running the ball and protection. That's what you do to make the investment in Dak make sense. You would think the opposite and give him another weapon but that is false!

well technically the Cowboys have an out on Coopers contract this offseason so they can do whatever they want. Not sure Cooper is on the tail end of his career though. The guy has been pretty good this year, the offense has been noticeably different without him, and he cant be more than what, 27 or 28 years old?
He's just not playing 100%. Seems as though he's declining. Health issues maybe?!
(which has nothing to do with ones age)
