Absolutely not.

LVE is still decent at football. Jaylon was lost on the field. Terrible.

LVE will likely play 4 or 5 more years minimum. Jaylon is likely done.
It’s highly unlikely he plays 4-5 more years with Dallas, but yes maybe somewhere else, if they don’t look at the game film on him.

It's sad to see how fast he has declined. LB is still a major need of this team.

Hes done here I agree.

Some team like the Dolphins or Raiders will give him 7-8 million a year.

He’s a finesse linebacker. That’s his game. Now he just has less athleticism and he’s asked to play a style of football that isn’t even his strength.

I was thinking about this yesterday. In a little over a years time, the linebacker corps will be completely turned over. Lee, Smith, (and soon) LVE all gone.

Too bad Lee couldn’t play one more season. I think he’d fit in well next to Parsons.
Sean Lee never held back to keep from getting injured and he got injured a lot. It's too bad he couldn't stay healthy because he would be looking at putting on a gold jacket.

100%…. I feel bad for the guy if he can no longer function as a LBer. Sorry. But now that we know you can’t (or won’t) do the job— go sit on the bench and let’s get someone out there who can actually function in the role.

We are basically playing 10 vs 11 with LVE out there

We're used to it...,we did it with Jeff Heath for years

LVE is one of those players that you really wonder "what if" or "what could have been"

I really thought he was going to be one of the best.. hard, athletic and punishing. I remember his rookie season.. he was howling.. and everyone thought we had finally found an answer at LB. Then the injuries came and right now he is getting a game due to lack of options and reputation only. Legit looks lost most of the time and struggles to bring down a runner consistently. Fails to read the play and identify the offence and takes horrible angles on the run. LVE is one of the main reasons why our run D looks bog awful. Oppo coaches are alert to this and they are going to the run when LVE is on the field a lot.

The question is whether he can regain his mojo or find a way back. Personally I think we need to upgrade the position and move on.

He might as well enjoy his last games of the season as I personally feel no team is going to task the risk of signing him with all these neck issues and useless play.

I think he was done at the start of the season. He has not built the body that is required to be a LB in the NFL.

Some team like the Dolphins or Raiders will give him 7-8 million a year.
:omg:

OK, what does a finesse LB do? He has less athleticism.

Does he cover TEs and RBs out of the backfield? Doesn't sound like a job for an athletically challenged player.

Does he drop back and sit in zones all day? Doesn't sound like someone who could support on run plays. Don't we have Safeties for that job - to make tackles at the second level.

Does he get tackles? From the film and stats of the last game, not much. According to NFL playbook he was in 44 plays on defence and special teams. He only registered 2 tackles.

I would worry that he will end up finessing his way out of the league.

Like why is this hard to digest?

Peyton Manning’s arm strength deteriorated rapidly, in a matter of 2 years, because of the neck fusion surgery.

LVE is a LB who needs the make hits. Him going backward is most likely a protective mechanism for this issue. It’s not that he can’t play, it’s a case of the body not being able to do what the mind wants. I just looked at some articles, and actual injury and surgery were kept under-wraps, most likely largely in part because of how it pertains to the situation of his contract.

He’s done… It’s not that he sucks, it’s that the injury has finally caught up.

The main issue is from the coaching and personnel side, as to why they continue to play him
At this point it's personnel and that's really sad.
Jabril Cox would be manning the helm, if not for injury, but really: this team does not have a player better than LVE right now.

As terrible as that sounds.

I wish he didn't have his injuries and was who he was, but he is who he is so...

It is what it is.

On today's Talking Cowboys the subject came up of who has been underperforming and who really needs to step up. Leighton Vander Esch was the unanimous choice. It was pointed out how he is constantly going backwards to try to make plays instead of attacking. They said this is why the Cowboys didnt pick up his 5th year option and how he has declined since his rookie year. If the Cowboys are going to make a run for the playoffs, Vander Esch needs to step up, or be replaced. I'm glad to see him being called out publicly. He is either afraid to get hurt or trying to save himself for his next team.
Bench his *** now! ANYBODY will be a better option then he is. The dude is fricking slow at everything he does on the field, there is nothing athletic about him anymore.........

He looks awful. But having said that we have nothing else and he’s still way better than Jaylon. At least he’s stayed healthy
And you really believing that or searching to excuse his play?

Expectations were high at the beginning of the season for LVE. He was injured last season and was reported to have gotten right in the offseason. He had a decent training camp. But then Micah Parsons happened. Having this measuring stick around to constantly remind everyone how far LVE has fallen was a bad thing for how everyone is perceiving LVE. I actually think LVE is okay, he's just not Parsons, but who is?
News flash.......right now LVE is not ok to be on the field.
