I think too much of Garrett rubbed off on KM. He allows Defenses to dictate their play calling way too much. We can blame dak but it was the same with Tony. Remember the ravens and other teams laughing about how predictable the O was. If I am a DC I am loving playing against a team that I can make call plays in a certain way just by the defensive look I give.
I called this out on Garrett the day he was hired in 2007.. We had a press conference and he looked dead at the camera and said "we're going to take what the defense gives us.." I knew right then and there he would never be successful calling plays.. Defenses know what play tendencies are in certain situations and certain looks.. because EVERY STINKING TEAM IN THE NFL uses the same set of plays in certain situations against certain looks.. So all they have to do is show a certain look pre-snap and they will have a really good idea what play is coming.. Guess what.. your offense is MUCH easier to stop when the defense knows what's coming. Now some superhuman players made it work anyway at times.. T.O... Austin for his two year stretch.. Dez, Witten, Murray, young Zeke, Cooper, Romo.. the offensive line when it was dominant.. Dak before he got hurt.. It was guys going Superman to make plays.. and in the process making the coaches look good. But the "take what the defense gives you" philosophy is never going to work.. You simply CANNOT allow the defense to tell you what plays to run.. Cause guess what... They're going to "give you" crappy plays.. And Moore doubled down on it with his "yards are yards" mantra.. Of you f-in kidding me? You are paid millions of dollars to coach offensive football and you honestly don't see the difference between imposing your will on a defense and letting them dictate what you do? He should have been fired the day he said that crap.
