Seems like the 49ers have gone from fringe playoff team to the verge of a dynasty in about 4 days, impressive.
I'm willing to bet that if Dallas wins, some Zoners will simply promptly move on to, "(the Cowboys next opponent) is the most complete team in the playoffs."

I give them kudos for their making the playoffs and what it took in the final game of the season. But, to label them as the most complete team is ridiculous. Keep things in perspective folks. Dallas has to play well to beat them. However, the 9ers are very very flawed.

I would have to agree. I think the 9ers did great to play so well toward the end of the season and then bump off a very good Rams team to get to the playoffs. They're a good team who has a chance to win against us. But saying they're "the most complete team" is bizarre given the level of talent there is in this league.

I agree with this. Jimmy G is arguably the worst QB in the playoffs. It’s hard to give any team with him the labor of “most complete.”

Credibly.

PFF position rank for the season
Biadasz - 19
Williams - 11
Collins - 9
Smith - 2
Martin - 1

And both Biadasz and Collins only got better as the year went on, so that the rankings for their play *now* should be higher.

The oline is the reason to be hopeful about the playoffs. Biggest players on the field, and come the playoffs, they start playing full out.

Lots to be hopeful about the defense too.

Parsons - 1
Dlaw - 3 (really?)
Gregory - 19
Kearse - 14
LVE - 29, and that's much improved play lately. Surely much higher for last 4 games
Hooker - 35 basically an average S, but also on the upswing
Basham, Armstrong - 65, 54 - borderline starters as our edge rotation

But the DTs? Ugh.
I don’t think Collins is near a top 10 player this year
Smith is great but has played in 11 games and not finished two of them
CW was so good half this board wanted him benched and the staff did bench him
We have a solid oline when all are healthy but any metric that has them as the best is flawed

Compare their division to ours…. A lot harder to beat those 6 games vs ours

And they still have 11 games against the rest of the League. They have a tough division but that is only 6 games in a 17 game, 18 week season. Plenty of games to show you are the "most complete team in the playoffs". Not buying the 9ers hype. They are playing well and deserve respect because they are capable of beating Dallas. But, if Dallas wins, no one on this board or in the media will be lauding the Cowboys for a great playoff win against one of the League's best or the most complete team in the playoffs. No one.

Isn’t the defense near the top in DVOA?
Yes, Dallas ended up 2nd in defensive DVOA, 5th in offensive DVOA and 1st overall DVOA. Breaking it down further:
Dallas / SF
Passing Defense 2 / 16
Rushing Defense 16 / 2
Overall Defense 2 / 7

Passing Offense 6 / 5
Rushing Offense 13 / 5
Overall Offense 6 / 5

Special Teams 6 / 26

Overall DVOA 1 / 6

Could come down to special teams. Should be a good game!

umm they have the rams number much like the saints have the bucs #, they are 2-4 in that division umm beat the rams twice :) you lose to Seattle twice have you seen Seattle play?

yes their divisions tougher but they have flaws or wouldn't be 10-7 and fought to ot to barely win and in scenario.

What I find interesting is their matrices give the Cowboys D a mediocre rank. The game changing dynamics (HAVOC?) that they thrive on seem to be understated in the analysis. Good stuff, though.

Cardinals game be damned I see the Cowboys D coming out gang busters.

Oh my, why not just skip the playoffs and have the 49ers vs the Patriots in the Super Bowl right now? Lol

Collins was not top ten *this year*, but probably is *now*.
Similarly with Smith. He was missing, but he isn't *now*.
Yeah, much of the board has always hated Williams, and the staff made the *mistake* of benching him, which they have reversed. Many never could get over his weak showing as a rookie. Few interior olinemen look good at 21. Nowhere near their peak. He's now 24. Not his peak yet, but now physically able to compete. None of our All Pro guys made All Pro until 24.

Going into the playoffs, which oline is the best? That's about *now*, not the rest of the season. Smith is healthy, and Collins has shaken the rust off, Biadasz has improved over the course of the year, and they put Williams back in. The oline is as good as it can be going into the playoffs.
