Actually, Philly may be the best, ever since they went away from their pass happy approach. The Eagles completely dominated the Saints defensive front and number 1 ranked run defense, which owned us.

This may also point to just how good the Philly run blocking coaching is, not just their first team personnel.

But yeah, your point regarding the 49ers running game against us still stands as well. We have actually showed some areas of concern in run defense and let’s be honest, we’ve played really bad QBs where Quinn has had everybody close to the line, including the LBs. This may not happen with the 49ers. LVE is always a considerable question mark. The 49ers can make you pay for an overly aggressive attacking style defense.

That last part is exactly what I worry about. As great as Quinn has been, there have been times when he’s called a questionable game. I think at times he’s attacked and played man coverage more than he should.

In this game, I think he should play sound run defense on early downs and pick your spots later, if and when you get Garoppolo in long distance situations.

It absolutely does suck. But that’s what I’m seeing lately. In that Philadelphia game, he was not only shaky in pass protection, but he was missing blocks in the running game as well. Conversely, Steele went from playing well at left tackle to crushing it at right tackle with the backup offensive line later in the game.

After this season, Connor Williams is in all likelihood gone and that opens up left guard. I’d strongly consider Collins there if the team decides to keep him around. I’ve heard that with his suspension, his guarantees in his contract were voided.
I don’t get why they just didn’t make the move before….They will bench Connor but wont try him at tackle and Collins at guard….

Definitely a huge part of things.

Biadasz needs to not get pushed back into the ball carrier consistently also.

He honestly played better in the earlier part of the year against some of the better DTs.

Maybe he has a good game in him but he is the OL I'm most concerned with....by far.

There is much more film on him now teams know exactly how to attack him, either he learns to neutralize it or he will be on roller skates.

I don’t care if Jimmy G lights us up…they don’t want to throw it. If this team goes out here trying to stop the run and still can’t? That’s just the same story different coach…..

That’s the key to the game. If he ca. handle box, we win. It’ll help if he. Can beat him up in the run game.
collins will win some. bosa will win some. collins will have at least one holding call. we are going to chip him with TEs....and to slow him down, should throw some screens, tosses to his side and throw right behind him....

It's a nice matchup to watch, but I wouldn't call it the key to the game. Our ability to run on offense and our ability to stop the run on defense are the keys to this game.

Exactly and my exact thinking on both. I feel if our DL can stop them from gashing us up the middle we are in excellent shape. We do need
to run the ball well and I feel strongly our WR's and Prescott can light up their secondary

I think most will agree that if our Oline doesn't play well to allow us some balance & Dak time we probably don't win.
If Lael doesn't handle Bosa in both aspects of the game, its a major problem. So, since its the matchup against their most disruptive player, I believe that was the reason OP said its the key matchup.

no

hes not they won't be passing that much and LC can hold his own and if needed zeke will break his chest plate with a chip..

the key is the trenches both sides but defense we need front 7 to keep under control break down and tackle, keep those zone runs stretched and limit gains.

Offense be creative move the pocket and we can do the same to them we have Lamb hes our do it all deebo type and pollard can also get involved.

Yeah, Philly second team OL without their starting RB ran for 150 against us but the best running team in the NFL will not be successful LOL

sometimes I wonder what you guys drink in the morning
How is SF the best running team in the league?

YPG, they are 7th (Philly is #1).
YPC, they are 16th.

Kellen has to allow LC to get physical with Bosa by running at him to wear him down. Gotta let LC tee off on him.

Win the turnover battle. Capitalize on red zone opportunities. Touchdowns. Not FGs or missed FGs. Both teams will move the ball. Both teams will have big plays. Oh and here is an idea. Enough of the drive killing penalties already. The keys to this game is the same as any other game. Football is a lot simpler than people want it to be.

So Conner Williams going against Arik Armstead means nothing. The play of our DT's against their interior linemen means nothing.

REALLY?

ok but Philly backups got 150 against our starters

you conveniently ignored that fact

I didn't conveniently ignore it. I was simply addressing one aspect of your comment that was not supported by the data.

As for that last game, Philly is number 1, but yes, it was backups. We also had some backups on D. And it's just one game. We've also held much better (Factoring in backups) running teams to far less.
They also ran it 33 times, so 149 yds is not THAT huge of a number.

We need Callahan back. It’s no coincidence our run gave has declined every year since he left.

THE key to the game is protecting Dak. We have seen how he crumbles under pressure....and we have seen Dak flourish when he feels free. Nobody....and I mean Nobody....can score as quickly as we can when we are hitting on all cylinders. If we protect Dak...that SF secondary is pure trash...and we will put up 40+. Hell...just last week...the Rams exposed them. What was surprising was how the SF defensive front wore down the Rams Oline....which is one of the better units in the league.
And what’s the best way to protect Dak? You block Bosa.
