Cooper was single covered most of this season. Even he admitted as much recently. So...how did Cooper being single-covered help out CeeDee, Schultz and the other WRs?

Actually since the Denver "blueprint" game teams have been playing mostly zone against the Cowboys passing attack.. so everybody is getting single covered.. and nobody is..

I'd be careful releasing Cooper, he is a talented WR. It's very easy to go from WR rich to WR poor in a short amount of time. When you have so many it can see easy to get more, but that is often not the case. Look at the NYG for example.

At this point, he's more of a good #2. Problem is he's way overpaid.

Only time I can recall featuring him this year was week 1 and vs the Skins. It seems more like Lamb has been the primary. I still believe he could be a number 1 on most teams. I think his numbers would've been fine had we not started to stumble and been slow to adjust since the middle of the season. It's been a group effort keeping Coops numbers down. I cant place all the blame on him, not yet at least.

The 70 catches argument is weak- it’s not because he lacks the talent to have more catches it’s because he shares the field with a talented wr core. Cooper is a great player and we shouldn’t let him.

I think Jerry is angling for Coop’s release with some of the public statements he made earlier in the season. It also seems the media attention is targeted, and it could be the team playing PR games.

Theories aside, if the FO is interested in bringing Wilson back and they believe Gallup can be brought back on a 1 year deal, releasing Coop does make financial sense. They could transition 10 million of the cap from offense to defense with that one move.

I really like Amari and his quiet confidence but his production has been down so paying him 21 million next season seems insane.

Dak will need another receiver to take the blame for his overthrows if Amari leaves.

Regardless, Dallas probably has to move on from Cooper. Can't be paying a WR that much at his age. Dak is just going to have to make do with less. There are more pressing issues elsewhere. Like Randy Gregory. I love Cooper. But not at a 20+ million cap hit.

I’m a big Cooper fan. He’s the best receiver on the team but he does disappear too often. He needs to consistently have a bigger impact on every game to be paid $20 mil per season. But, having him on the field does open it up for the other receivers too, so you can’t just look at his stats alone. It’s a tough decision.
