We're so damn close....Dak played poorly the last couple of months...Zeke was hurt, KM got a big head and forgot about Pollard, CeeDee drank the kool-aid....we have many issues, but....should we blow it up or keep building? I'm a homer, but I'm thinking blow it up, I don't see it getting better without an overhaul....
Once the emotion dies, people should realize that this roster is pretty stacked.

We still have a lot of 1st or 2nd year players with some growing to do, and upside.

We have all of draft picks going forward

Now, regarding Dak and his contract, I'm not sure what to say.
Have always been in the camp that he's better than some here think but not as good others who put n the top 5 think.

I honestly think that if you rank the rosters in the last 25 years---though most have not been "great" Dak has been afforded maybe 5 of the top 7 or 8 best rosters.
Few QBs have that luxury

Not all of it needs blown up. There's a few pieces in place to build on. That said, this team ain't smart or tough. An overhaul needs to be done to be tougher in the trenches and smarter overall.

Close? This is why the Cowboys get away with this year in and out. Our fans are delusional. Close would have been getting to the Championship game and missing out on a bad call or coming up short at the end. Close isn't getting your hat handed to you for 3 quarters in a wild card game against an inferior team. Put us in any other division and we don't make the playoffs. We might be stuck with Dak, but just wait until the rest of the division catches up with us and we don't get a free pass to the post season.
Pretty sad that you are a fan and don't appreciate 12-5

Want to? No
The emotions of the moment have everyone wildin' but we have a lot to build on. Imagine this team with a legit OL... I'd take every other player we have if we could replace 2 or 3 OL and be a top 5 unit.

This is the perception that needs to change. I've heard this for years yet we can't even get beyond the divisional round. Didn't even get there this year.

Unfortunately, Jerry shares that perception. He overvalues the talent he's paid and undervalues positions that haunt this team over and over, again.
Spot on!

This is a very sad situation when you see a team come out with the talent and an opportunity to make it to a super bowl and they make that many stupid mistakes.
The problem is we have seen it with many different casts of characters these mistakes and lack of attention to detail all the way down to our owner not being able to keep our players from being blinded by the sun at home.
I believe until you have someone in charge that has a fanatical sense for attention to detail and refuses to settle for anything less it's just like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic it's still going to go down.

These players and coaches are just too comfortable and have no sense of urgency properly prepare when all the teams are good.
I believe talent will get you to the playoffs but proper preparation of avoiding mistakes gets you wins in the playoffs.
When you have players worried about making the feed me sign the wolf call or the swipe they are not properly concentrating on eliminating game-ending mistakes

We’re not that close. When you go one and done at home in the playoffs against a lower seeded team you have a ways to go. We never held the lead once yesterday. We don’t need to be blowing things up but we have holes. The OL and DL need to be addressed. We’re not strong enough in the trenches. Our pass rush isn’t good enough and we can’t run the ball consistently. This is still not a well coached football team. We had far too many penalties and McCarthy and his staff made too many questionable/poor decisions during games. The play in the final 14 seconds of the game was one of the worst calls ever. Fans can continue to complain about the officiating but this is an undisciplined team.

We would have to eat 34 million to release Dak. Im' not sure on the hit for releasing Elliot and of course a new coach can be hired without a cap hit. Could you do this? Yes you could, but you'd have to get very creative with the CAP. I don't think the Cowboys are that close. This year was their best chance and I'm not saying that don't have some pieces, one of them being a generational talent (Parsons) in my opinion. But, this was their best chance and outside of the NFC East the Cowboys were 6-6 this year. They will be worse next year in my opinion anyway, so it may be worth retooling. The least they could do is accept that Dak is not what they want him to be and draft a QB that they could bench him for if his play warrants it. If he gets benched he will waive that no trade clause in a second and after 2023 you can release him with a 2 million cap advantage as compared to paying his 45 million cap hit.

No way they blow it up, Jerry doesn’t know if he has the time for it and they always seem to think they are a player or two away. They will stick to the current plan that hasn’t worked in two decades.

Dude you have to stop, seriously stop, lol that record is meaningless.
That's all he's got this year. Record record record. Some of us have had our eyes open, but apparently we should all be happy with a great regular season.

I don't really ever see "blowing it up" as an option.

The exception to that would be if we had an aging team with older veterans on the backside of their career filling a lot of roster spots.

But we have pieces to build from, although admittedly more than minor tweaks are needed. We just need to make some hard decisions.

Zeke: I don't know that Pollard is an every down back, but it doesn't have to be Zeke that he shares the load with. Zeke simply isn't the player he was when drafted.

Tyron Smith: Great player, but injuries have reduced his effectiveness and he misses time every year. He hasn't played a full season since 2015, but might have some trade value to a strong team that feels a high quality LT could help them get over the top.

LVE: Just isn't the guy we thought he was after his rookie year. Maybe from injuries or limited instincts or whatever. Doesn't really matter. His contract is up, time to move on.

O-Line: Connor Williams clearly has to go, but that on top of LT fighting injury every year and Baidasz being undersized the middle to left side just isn't very strong. MAy not be able to replace all in one year, but the building need to start immediate.

The cap cut in 2023 is a 2 mil savings if he is cut in 2023, that is the first out I believe. For Elliott it is 5 mil in savings if cut in 2023.

What does a blow up look like?

Well, remember that if you trade someone, you have to take on part of their cap hit. A lot of Dallas' players would be cheap to a team taking them on. Dak for example would become a $52m cap hit for the Cowboys if you trade him but a 20-30m per year QB for the team that gets him.

So, what is the most severe case?
- Trade Dak, Martin, maybe Tyron, Brown, Amare, etc.
- Cut DLaw, Zeke, Lael

Tank hard. It would probably take about 2 years to clear the salary cap and then you would have a clean slate and a lot of fresh draft picks.

Is it worth it? I highly doubt Jerry does this, so its hypothetical only. That said, I think the tank route is going to get you competitive faster than the route Jerry is about to take. That is to say, push salary down the road via restructure to keep a portion of the team together and try to fill the holes through the draft. IMO, Jerry is about to put together a rather mediocre team and try to sell the fanbase to keep the stadium full.

Starting with the HC and the QB. Team has to find a way to get rid of Dak. The players won't be playing for Dak anymore. They see the same future we clearly see with him at QB. Nothing. No future. Time to move on.

Dak is a good kid that lost his edge....he's here for 2 more years, hopefully he turns it around
