Hope a draft pick. LT, LG and C could theoretically all be new players next season. Probably won’t be due to cap reasons but could be.

OL will be the main reason if this team falls short
Very well could be.

I’m not knocking your “needs” list, but I’m not basing a draft on needs. I’m going BPA every round or trading.

Needs:

1. I think you could upgrade any position on the OL other than Martin. The rest are dicey at best. You don’t pass on a stud OL if he falls in your lap.

2. DT. I am of the opinion that playoff teams usually have a very strong DL, especially in the interior. Those guys seldom last past the top 10 but if you find one you grab one.

3. Linebacker. It would be easy to upgrade one of the spots over what we have now, other than Parsons. But those guys are like RBs.. you can find one anywhere in the draft if you sift through the chaff.

4. RB. Here is where I think the need is higher than most. I love Zeke but his best days are behind him. Pollard is a free agent after 2022. I could see Zeke and Pollard moving on after next year. Zeke could easily be a cap casualty. Pollard is not an every down back.

You need a potential bell cow back to replace Pollard and Zeke after next year and you don’t want an inexperienced rookie starting and giving teams a free release to pound your $40M QB. The need here is medium to high.

5. TE. High need. Schultz will get paid and we don’t really have a stud blocking TE. They will be looking for a a Schultz clone.

6. Kicker. Plan on the Cowboys drafting a kicker sometime after round 4, if a really good one shows up on the radar. Greg the Leg is probably a goner.

7. We don’t “need” a receiver, per se, but we will need to replace Gallup AND Amari’s cap number puts some pressure on the position.

8. We need at least one really good safety.

That’s how I see the needs shaking out, unless we have cap casualties.

But again, I wouldn’t draft based on need. I would go BPA pretty much all the way.
I can't argue what you wrote. Maybe the order, but not the content. And yes, I am of the belief that you use FA to fill all needs, then use the draft to take BPA and upgrade.
With that said, TE, LB, and FS as well as disruptive DT are higher on the Needs list for this team than the rest IMO.

We'll see how the resignings and free agency play out, but LT is high on my shopping list and DE is too if Gregory doesn't resign.

Good plan.

One thing I would say - if Gregory doesn't take whatever the Cowboys offer, after all they've done for him, well you think folks here rag on Zeke and Dak, Gregory walks then you ain't read nothing yet..

To me needs are in order

OL
TE
LB
WR

this assumes that we resign Gregory, DLaw, Hooker, Kearse

I don't see that TE is that high of a need. Schultz isn't bad, and that's with a running game that's sub-par at the moment. Fix the OL, get the running game back up to top shelf, and Schultz will do very well. This offense isn't a TE offense, it's a running game/wide receiver offense, as long as we have a serviceable tight end spend your resources in other areas...

I don’t agree

great offenses have great TEs (not every one but a lot). The run game will get better when we have a TE who can block

we need a great TE much more than signing Gallup or Wilson

If the offense was set up for a great tight end I'd be more willing to agree, but it's not, after run plays and passes to the wide receivers there's simply not enough pass attempts to fully utilize the Kelce/Kittle/Andrews type tight end.

Similar to the 90's teams, Novacek was great but never got anywhere near 1,000 yards or double digit tds, mainly because the offense went through Emmitt and Irvin, even Emmitt had just as many receptions as Novacek a lot of seasons.

Now if the team wants to go to an offense that more features the tight end, then sure, a great tight end would be more of a priority.

The Ravens' Andrews had 107 receptions for 1,361 yards and 9 tds, and they didn't even make the playoffs. Great tight ends are an adjunct to the rest of the offense, nice to have the great tight end, but for this team there are bigger fish to fry..

But I see your point, just don't agree...

It’s not about receptions
It’s about what make the offense more effective, potent and difficult for the defense
A great TE will do that
The problem with Ravens is not the TE, it is that they have a running QB and the TE is the only option
Novacek is a great example, I’d take that offense over the one we have right now any day

For what it’s worth, I didn’t really list them according to the order of need. One might successfully list them in any order and be in the ballpark.

The postion of need is easy.

1 we need to move some players free up some salary.
2. Get more early draft picks

3. If our fuy isn't there move back in the draft and gain more early picks that are early.

Is Linderbaum big enough to play both guard and center?

Opps, found this discussion on another thread.

Top four needs (in no particular order) are:
1. OG
2. OC
3. TE
4. LB

Safety is also a need but we have Wilson/Mukuamu and I'm expecting an FA or two to be signed/re-signed.

I take it back, need a DT more than 4 & 5

On the roster we have:
  • 4th year: Hill
  • 3rd year: Gallimore
  • 2nd year: Bohanna and Odigizuwa
My preference would be one good 1T in free agency, maybe the draft (if the right guy falls) but we could easily go into next season without signing a DT.

Guard....this team needs interior oline help in the worst way.
I expect Lael Collins won't be around next year so OT would be a close second.
They can address tight end in FA. David Njoku can replace Schultz productivity.

He is also rated the #1 block TE in the lg.

Cheerleader was the most disappointing position this year.
