Does anyone think Dak is better than Romo was?

I was livid when Romo wasn't even given a chance to compete in 16 and basically tossed to the curb like yesterday's trash. I mean Romo had his bad games. But to me,Tony was definitely a smarter QB as well as a better passer. Seemed to make lesser WRs better. Dak should be all world with this talent and he's not. He's an average QB propped up by the talent of the roster. Give him lesser receivers he's below average.
That's the biggest problem when your owner is the GM and the coach is not given total authority. When Jimmy was here he had total control and would never have said were not allowing competition at any position.

Heck, these are just a few examples. What's really funny is that there is a poster here who thinks Jerry is better than Jimmy.

Jimmy picked up Walsh after they had Troy-competition
Jimmy cutting Curvin Richards for fumbling-accountability.
Jimmy trading H. Walker-Bold trades that paid off

Then we have

Jerry won't let a QB competition happen against Dak.
Zeke playing over Pollard.
10 years of clapping carrot to prove Jerry knows coaches.
Not getting rid of our FG kicker.

No shock we have done nothing in nearly 30 years.

I think we've had a really good offense built for Daks 1st 3 years that were wasted because of how bad our defense was built and coached. The problem with the Romo and Dak years was inconsistency in building a competative team. Romo had 2 good teams, one in 2007 and the next 2014. Most of his career Romo had to gun sling it cause he couldn't lean on the run game or defense. Dak had the luxery of being able to lean heavily on Zeke but like romo had almost no defense backing them up. When we talk about some of the best patriot teams we talk about Brady not always having to be the best QB that day, he had a defense he leaned on a lot but he also came up big plenty of times too. We rarely had a complete team. our defense only looked good in 2014, 2016, 2017 because we ran so well we hid their hideousness, winning TOP helped cover their lack of ability.

It was even worse than the Chaz Green game.
Don’t think it was as bad in terms of sack numbers(might be misremembering), but he was beat to hell that day by one of the best pass rushers in the league and pass rushes period that season. We couldn’t run (story of his career) and that defense pinned their ears back every play to come after him. It was one of the worst beatings I’ve seen a QB take.

Trying to imagine what the reaction here would be if a Dak-led team laid an egg like Romo and the Cowboys did in Minnesota in the 2009 divisional round.
Lol...Dak just laid an egg and didn't even get to the divisional round.

Both needed perfection from the team to win. Both need excuses because they can’t win. Both have their cult of fans who overrate them and shield them from any criticism.

I honestly don’t think Dez was as good as he was made to look. He never learned how to run routes well and got by on athleticism and great ball placement. I think he needed a QB the caliber of Romo or he was never going to be close to the level he played. A 33 year old Owens was the best WR Romo played with.

Romo did have some great #1 at various points of his career. Terry Glenn was Clutch, He had TO, And before all the Hamstrings Injuries Miles Austin looked like he would have done better here than TO, and then of course Dez. But Romo never had a worthy number 2 and number three like you have now. For the longest time I thought that Dez was going to be more like Alvin Harper than Irvin, one big play maybe in a game and then you wouldn't hear from him again. I think he did elevate in 2014, but never was the same after the injury.

It is funny how Prescott and Romo are pitted against each other in some minds so much more often Prescott (still playing) is put up against another active quarterback. Prescott. Romo. Romo. Prescott. It's like neither player left the franchise five years ago.

;) The final Philidelphia game where we played our starters, you could say was the ultimate garbage time game ;)
I'd say it might be the most garbage time, stats-building game that I have ever seen by a Cowboy team.
I'd challenge anyone to find one that tops it.

I do not blame Dak though. He did what he was supposed to do vs backups.

I can't think of another game where we played out starters on such a meaningless game, and then even when the turkey was cooked still continued.

Romo, by the end, was made of glass and suffered severe injuries every time a defender sneezed near him in a leisurely preseason game. He was playing behind an elite o-line at the end and still couldn't stay healthy. That's why he was no longer a viable option.

Be happy he was able to get out healthy enough to enjoy retirement and play with his kids.

Or, you know, be a monster and tell us how unsatisfied you are that he didn't keep going in there so he could break his back and spend his retirement in a wheelchair.

I know it’s anecdotal, but I’ll stand by it. Romo was the recipient of many late hits, without getting the benefit of the whistle.

Romo would have. Like he won the Washington game with a chance to win the game in the 4th quarter? But some act like Romo always came up in every single big game and big moment the Cowboys had with him as the QB and that 2016 was guaranteed to finally be his year. He made mistakes still even when he was considered a veteran QB. He would still have his mishaps and big timing INTs in big games or moments.
Well I was thinking of romo with THIS TEAM not those past teams.
the wash game you refer to was with a crap team, that int doesnt ever happen if that team had been better. even if they beat wash they would have gone
nowhere in playoffs.

He got picked up off the ground and thrown down in one game, with no flag.
Just a different era, though only about a decade ago.

QBs were at least protected more then than in the 70s, or even 90s
Now it's borderline cellophane wrap.
