Fitting it came down to clock management at the end

I thought the same thing. There was no need to rush at the time and risk a hurried play.

They weren't though. 2 minutes and 3 timeouts to go 47 yards isn't running out of time. Hell, there was enough time left that even after the Cowboys turned the ball over on downs the Cowboys were able to force a 49er punt and got one more possession.

The smarter thing would have been to let the clock go to the 2 minute warning and plan their next play rather than try and rush a precious play at that point in the game.

I’m not sure if you saw the game. They ran out of time in the end.

Why in all hell did they rush to run a play before the 2 minute warning?

We woukd have had 2nd and 11, 3 timeouts, 2 minutes left st the 49ers 47 down by 6.

Utterly no football iq under pressure

This has been overlooked because of the stupid run play at the end. I had no idea what they were doing. What was the rush? They were in SF territory, all 3 timeouts and time was no issue. Maybe if it was 2nd and 1 or something, ok then. But 2nd a 11? you need to get on the same page. The game almost ended there when they hurried and Dak and Ceedee were not on the same page (a common theme all year) and it was almost picked. Probably should have been after Ceedee dropped it.

This is another playoff game at the end where they botched it. 2016 Green Bay, we were driving and had GB on their heels and we spike the ball on 1st down. Killed a down and all the momentum.

Last night had so much promise after that long play to Schultz. And it was crap 4 plays in a row after. OL could not hold a pocket. And what was that 3rd down play coming out the 2 min timeout? Just terrible coaching and preparation.

I said the same exact thing. That’s a dumb HC oc and qb all working together…..and between the 3 of them is probably somewhere around $300 million

I'm not sure you did. Games don't end at the 2 minute warning, the clock didn't run out on that possession, and they just needed one TD to win so if they handled things well the clock would actually have been their friend. They easily had the time to move down the field without panicking or scrambling, get that score and leave the 49ers with almost no time on the clock.

So the point I was making, and that should have been obvious to you, is that by hurrying a play rather than taking the time needed to run a well considered play they were risking their best hope of winning the game. And frankly what should have been their only hope. After turning the ball over on downs with less than 2 minutes left the odds were very long they would get the ball back at all, and even if they did they would almost certainly be in a dramatically worse position than they were with 2 minutes left on SF's 47 yard line and 3 timeouts.

There is no scenario where 47 yards to go with 2 minutes and 3 timeouts left is a worse position to be in than 80 yards to go with 32 seconds left and no timeouts.

Now it didn’t lose the game for them but it didn’t allow them a chance to win the game. For all you that said it’s no big deal, it didn’t cost them, some of us on here said it is and it will cost them eventually in a big spot. That play was a terrible play call there and factoring in the time left should never ever had been called. Hell they coulda ran the same play they ran to Pollard again if they wanted to if they wanted to get 10-15 to take a shot at the end zone. How fitting though and then of course you have the idiots defending the play.

Marty Schottenheimer was a decent coach that couldn't ever win the big one. Mike reminds me of him, this clock management, penalties and coaching decisions will not go away and we will be re living this episode once again. And the Jones will probably bring him back again.
