Was the loony QB draw a Kellen Moore rookie mistake?

What I think may have happened was this. Moore had it in his mind that spiking the ball is like using a down as a timeout. It is ... sort of. The huge difference is you cannot instantly spike it to stop the clock. You have to get into position to run a play first and the ref has to position the football. Most of us here are saying, "Well, doh." But Moore was thinking he wanted some more yards to make the Hail Mary closer and thus more achievable and thus called the QB draw. Through lack of experience, he thought there was enough time to get in position and spike it.

Maybe our Boy Wonder has some knowledge of the game, but is still green with inexperience. Is this a possible explanation for what happened? What do you think?

On the post game show last night,it was said it was the qbs decision to run...going by that,it was all on 4.
Doubt dak is making that call. If he is all coaches should be fired. Players shouldn’t call plays.

No. That play call was terminally stupid. 14 seconds left. You do NOT run the ball to “get closer”. San Fran was gifting us 10 yard outs every play. Throw one more to the sideline and get out of bounds. That would take 4-5 seconds. You still have time (9 to 10 seconds) to go to the end zone twice. Even if the throw to the sideline is incomplete, you still have two throws to the end zone. I mean, is it even in question how stupid the decision to run actually was?

They were blocking sideline that final play. Had to be endzone passes

I have a feeling #4 was audibling out of quite a few plays this season, possibly to the detriment of the offense. And don't take that to mean KM was calling genius plays either. He wasn't
Hey bro,at this point, everything is a joke with this team, and the worst part is,I love this team..very sad state we're in right now.

Looking back at it if you gonna do that plat your try trick the defense and DONT spike it. You run last play quickly. Maybe get guy wide open deep.

No question about it -- it was one of the most ridiculous play calls I've ever seen. What I'm wondering about is if it was caused my Moore's inexperience. All season long, he's been called some kind of Boy Wonder genius. Maybe he's not such a genius and just made a hasty decision that probably 31 other offensive coordinators would not have done.

But you're right it was totally from the loony bin. The only more foolish plays would have been to kneel down or punt.

I think it was way too risky. I would’ve bunched the receivers to one side to try to clear up a path for Dak to run out of bounds. I don’t know if that would’ve worked or not but…

Unless Fat Mike’s headset was turned off, he could have killed it.

Doesn’t matter, he was already in blame the officials mode

When I saw that, I was praying we would take a deep shot towards the end zone up the middle. It might’ve been there with as many players as they had defending the sideline

If Prescot is all that, why didn't he checkout of that play. You know why, It meant that he didn't have to pass the ball down field!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was reported that Kellen called the play, and McCarthy was on the headset for the call and didn't overrule it, which is him approving of it.

I could see why Kellen thought it was a viable call, since it's something that's apparently been in our book awhile and we've practiced it. Meaning: we surely had drilled it enough to have it narrowed down to a set amount of time it would take to know how late we could possibly call that play.

But here's the thing. What's the point of having a grizzled veteran head coach if not so he can provide some wisdom from all his years of experience. Surely McCarthy should have spoken up and said, "Yeah, I realize when we run this in a pristine practice environment, it takes X number of seconds. But, here? Today? With our team being a sloppy mess pre-snap all day today? Yeah, no. We're not executing this quickly and cleanly. There's no way. Call something else."

That really got me......KMoore a Rookie? What is that about, except planting a genuine excuse for him. KMoore is only fooling this Board, the league already knows his prowess as an OC. No one adjusts to his game plan, he adjusts to the other teams. Moore, Philbin and Nussmeier should be handed pink slips. Peete should be called in the office to explain the use of Zeke while injured.
